I once found a copy of 'Elle Decoration' on the train and asked my friend whether we were too young to care about the interior of our - rented - flats. Her response? An unequivocal yes. After visiting Heals on Tottenham Court Road, I'm afraid I'll have to agree to disagree. If expensive furnishings are your thing then you needn't look further than Heals. A more upmarket version of both Ikea and Habitat with a slightly different design sensibility and a lovely selection of beauty bits and bobs encompassing products by Korres, a natural beauty brand whose tinted lip balms are gorgeous and Diptyque, whose Fig perfume is to die for. The lighting section is divine, with gems including chandeliers rendered in everything from perspex to lead crystal; some rather lovely floor lamps with pure silk shades in de rigeur jewel-tones; and Tom Dixon's popular copper light shades which seem to grace almost every one of London's gastro pubs. read more

It has always been a bit tricky to figure out where Habitat ends and where Heals begins seeing as they often share a similar design strategy. Heals however, is decidedly more expensive and tinted with undeniable glamour. Heals houses designs from some of the biggest names. From Alessi to Phillip Stark this shops contains the finest of the fine. When walking in this shop you will find that everything from the beautiful golden globes, the comfy towel robes, the natural soaps and perfumes, the unconventional lampshades and the gorgeous stylish coffee machines will become an absolute necessity rather than a treat. As a lover of all gadgets, designer objects, storage devices, and glamorous furniture, I find myself wanting to wrap every object in store into a neverending Mary Poppins-style bag and immediately head home to live forever happy with my favourite objects. This store will probably bring out the worse of your materialistic nature, but after seeing these 3 floors of materialistic bliss, trust me it will be worth it. read more

This casual brasserie - located on the first floor of Heal's, the home furnishings store that reminds me of an upscale IKEA - is the brainchild of chef/restaurateur Oliver Peyton, who owns several restaurants in the city. We came here early on a Thursday evening before going to a play at the nearby Drill Hall, and we almost didn't go in because it was nearly empty. We decided because it was fairly early for most diners we would give it a try. It was a damp, dreary night, so macaroni and cheese sounded comforting. It was rich and creamy and exactly what I needed to fortify me against the chill. My husband raved about his salmon cakes, although he was less pleased with the overcooked poached egg that came with them. The restaurant doesn't rate more stars because the service was atrocious, inexcusable and unexplainable when only four tables are occupied. We sat several minutes before the waiter finally greeted us. We had to ask for water several times, and when it finally came it was missing the ice we had requested. There was a long delay between the time we placed our order and the time we were served, and another long wait to get the check. We had the feeling the wait and kitchen staff were playing cards to kill time and kept forgetting there were customers out front. If the mac and cheese wasn't still so memorable, I'd probably rate this two stars. If you stop by and it's no longer on the menu, you may want to go elsewhere, especially if you're on a schedule and don't have time to dawdle. read more

I love this place, the furniture is simple amazeballs!!! Every time I go in I always decide on what to purchase, and then question whether I actually really need it, and then on one off occasions ends up as a splurge! Then coming home and trying to find a place to put it!! Don't get me wrong, they have everything you could want to make your home look beautiful, but the prices aren't so! The staff are just plain ole boring, and well quite rude! Not sure whether it was the way I was dressed, but she just didn't seem to make eye contact with me. I am a pretty nice person to approach, but she wasn't. I find that majority of the staff are the same there, which does put me off in purchasing items! Which is probably a blessing too. I think I will stick to more afforable IKEA! Plus the staff are a lot more nicer! read more

A mixed review of Heal's. I like Heal's or at least the concept of what Heal's is and what it used to be. For me it was a place that was the epitome of good taste in modern design where you could come and imagine how you design and furnish your des res penthouse that you would have one day. I've been several times in recent years however and found it didn't quite live up to my expectations any more. Upstairs, it seems that the Heal's contemporary design aesthetic in their furniture selection has been replaced by a more random policy. Yes, some good stuff is still in there but some of it looks a bit frumpy or overblown. Maybe it's a sign of the times and a reflection of the tastes of the clientele. Who knows. The ground floor is more successful, especially the kitchen and bathroom products. Still better than Habitat next door but with prices to match. read more

Heals, Habitat, Conran and Conrans wife....... Sometimes one tries too hard at a review title. This may have been my step to far. I apologise. Anyway, Heals is a bloody useful store. All the unnecessary, shiny, smelly things in life on the ground floor. Perfect for birthdays, christmas and all other gift giving times. A good range of quality 'stuff' and interior design accessories for the discerning trendy. It is unsurprisingly very similar to the Conran shop and not unlike Habitat, its neighbour. Simple reason for this is Terence Conran who started in the high street with Habitat then bought Heals, reinventing a dated furniture store and then created the Conran shop. Now he only retains the Conran stores from this stable of retailers. Beyond the first floor is an mixed bag of great and slightly unpleasant furniture and soft furnishing. Cheap it is not but they always manage to make me spend my money in there. read more

Overall this is my favourite place to buy furniture in London with the bits that let it down being their wider non 'own-brand' ranges in the furniture section. Heals has, after a particularly excessive winter sale (80% off ftw), become the main place I come to drool at contemporary and occasionally bizarre furniture. The experience is certainly premium but good value considering the quality of the products (sort of the Waitrose of the furniture world). The range is sort of a half way house between what one would find in John Lewis and the contemporary styles of the Conran shop with prices to match. In terms of large furniture I have an Amalfi corner sofa. This is one of their own brand sofas that, when reduced, has far better value than anything I found in the sales of Conran, Habitat or John Lewis. The delivery and customer service was just that little bit better and it's in my living room now and being thoroughly enjoyed! I also have a range of much smaller things like vases, glassware and frames from the sale I mentioned above. Where Heals falls a little it the wider range of designer furniture. It is eye poppingly expensive and stylish but try as I might I could not find very much love for the items, though perhaps that's my taste. Downstairs is mostly lighting and kitchenware which is generally reasonable value and on a par with the similar areas in John Lewis. I will always love Heals, it gave me the comfiest sofa I will probably ever own and set me up in my first home through a rather ridiculous sale. It's not perfect but I'm happy it's there. read more

I love this place more than words will allow. From the pink, whimsical decór, to their delicious teas and amazing food, this place is perfect to not only get some work done, but to meet people. In fact, I would dare say this is the perfect place to meet someone for the first time after befriending them online. If you're in to that sort of thing. Their cupcakes are not my favorite, as Peyton and Byrne's ratio of cake to frosting is INCORRECT. However, the rest of their cakes and pies are enough you to cause you to let out rather inappropriate noise, if you catch my drift. My only request is that if you come here, be quiet, polite, and only tell a couple friends about it. We don't want all of London to discover this place. For some reason or other I've never been to the big Heal's - only the smaller one in Chelsea. As I was in the area, I popped in for a wander around. I was especially impressed by the in-house range of decorating fabrics. Yes, the prices are high - it's Heal's - not known for affordability, but they're really special. I was thinking of what I could use a special metre of to make! The sales staff seem a bit standoffish and perhaps even a touch elistist. I had a question twice and couldn't get anyone to make eye contact with me (I was dressed in jeans and sweater - nothing either fancy or slobbish). But maybe I just didn't seem interested enough? Heals is the Harrods of Home Furnishings. I love this shop. Heals sells upscale kitchenware, glassware and toiletries. They sell towels and furniture. I can not stress the glamour factor. I bought a Vodka Shaker here for 30 pounds last year. It was worth the money for the sheer elegance a gift (a gift for me) from Heals brings. It is also stainless steel, rather than plastic rubbish. This store offers a wide range of gift items on the ground floor including toys and games. I wish I could kit out my entire home in Heals furnishings. Dream on. read more

Talk about a turn off and thats what I get when Heals is in sight. Its even worse than Habitat. Well these two are competing with each other I tell you. Heals does tend to overstack their display. Its all in your face baby. But the only slightly sensible section is their furniture section, where they do try to do something slightly different. I came here recently and had a meeting in the restaurant upstairs and enjoyed myself so much I forgot I was there on business. The afternoon tea menu is great, and I was most impressed to see rooibos tea being served as if you ordered that in a place in Leeds, where I live, you'd probably just get given a pasty or something instead. Really pretty, cosy, fairytale-esque inside, it was. The rest of the shop had me drooling and wishing for payday, but I did pick up a mug for a reasonable £8 (one of those fancy Pantone ones), and I've promised myself at least an hour's proper mooching the next time I'm in London. UPDATE I have just knocked a star off because I had lunch in the restaurant here yesterday and the service was appalling. But the food was tasty what a conundrum! read more

Next door to Habitat on Tottenham Court Road, Heals is a perennial favourite. It's got a great selection of gifts for this Christmas and I'm looking forward to the beginning of the sales! I like the selection of kitchenware with lovely nice things that one would covet. Few people probably realise that there is a good restaurant upstairs on the same floor one finds furniture. It's a nice, peaceful place to rest after a hard days shopping. Lots of teas to select from and light bites for lunch or a general snacks such as soup, salads and sandwiches. Service is good and it doesn't feel too busy when it is full. read more

As a regular customer at the Ground floor of Heals, when it was time to invest in a sofa I opted for Heals. What a mistake. Despite ordering a bespoke modular sofa (and paying the price tag for it) the final product was a huge disappointment. We ended up with two parts of a sofa which could not be any different, from the height of the base, to the colour of the fabric, to the finishing. Getting this horrendous sofa was only the beginning. Customer Service at Heals might as well be non existent. We wrote to the 3 times and all 3 times we got the same rude reply which failed to to mention the full facts, setting out selective facts to suit their position that they are right. They have refused to fix it (despite their inspector accepting that it does not look right) and they are now refusing to refund us. Despite promising in May to contact us, 5 months later we are still waiting. It seems once they have pocketed your money that is the end of the service. I wish I had read the other reviews online about their customer service on bigger (more expensive) items; their track record is not good at all. read more

This is a great place to find somehting different for your home. You can change the atmosphere with a lot of items offered in Heal's. I found one of the most amazing furniture ideas there.They are expensive, so keep in mind to take more money when you are shopping there. Everyone is friendly and helpful if you have any questions.The last time I bought a ceramic cat for decoration, it is made by Jonathan Adler and I think he is a really good designer. Oh Heals! I do like quite a lot of your stock, I am just not impressed with the service at all (especially when you consider how expensive it is to shop here!!) Heals has a strange mix of truly gorgeous furniture and home-ware goods along with some very expensive ugly pieces. That's fair enough...different people have different taste, and at there is plenty here to look at! We considered buying a sofa here last month, but in the end chose a prettier, cheaper one from Habitat next door. Now for the service: **Eep, this may become rant-like** - I visited our possible future sofa more than four times...but never actually spoke to a member of staff. As someone who is considering buying an expensive item, I thought it was a little strange that staff were not available to help/chat to me. Normally they would just stay sitting behind their counter and ignore customers. - I have attempted to buy an Orla Kiely duvet cover here before Christmas, but they did not have it in the size I needed. I did ask if they had extra sizes stashed away, so a member of staff told me that all their stock was on display, but if I came back soon it would be re-ordered. Fair enough. I tried once more in January, and the same thing happened. - I wanted to avoid another wasted trip, so on Friday I attempted to call ahead, to see if they had my duvet cover in stock. Each time I had to go through one of those automated call services, then, as they put me through to the right counter, they hung up on me (grr.) I tried this three times, then attempted to get through to customer services instead. I let the phone ring for 15 rings, waited a few minutes, then tried again...no one bothered to pick up the phone! Anyway, I gave up and walked over after work. - When I arrived there was a paper display telling me what goods are on each floor (that's fair enough...they seem to be moving things around for spring) BUT they had not bothered to change this...so I wandered up three flights of stairs, only to find duvets had been moved to the back of the ground floor. *sigh* If you only have paper displays to let people know where to find things, how hard can it be to print a new sign!? I was pretty unimpressed. Of course once I found the right area, they still didn't have my duvet size in stock. *more sighs* I asked a member of staff again who just said it was not in stock. He didn't offer to take my details and order it for me, or anything helpful like that. I wanted to spend almost £120 on bedding. If they bothered to pick up the phone, they could have told me it was out of stock/offered to order it for me...as it is, I just walked out and bought it elsewhere. I am VERY glad I did not buy the sofa from here in the end! If the service is this bad when you try to buy duvets, I can only imagine how bad it could be when ordering furniture! read more

I am now a second generation Heals fan. My parents have always loved this place, and it is practically the only place they want to visit when they come to London. I am not sure what it is exactly, but the place certainly has a unique combination of home and garden stuff, which is universally of good quality and well designed. At sale times you can pick up some amazing bargains, I barely even bother going outside of this, as there is no way I can afford most of the stuff. Though sometimes it is worth a visit for some classy present ideas. Having Heals and Habitat right next to each other was a genius marketing decision, I have spent many an afternoon flitting between the two trying to force myself not to buy yet another beautiful but unnecessary item, but usually giving in. read more

My first visit to Heals was like a dream come true. I happened to walk by and noticed a fuss front of the shop. Of course I just walked in to see what was going on.. I was offered a glass of champagne, chocolate tryffel and welcomed with hand shakes. Oh la la it was the evening for loyal customers! I ate and drank my stomach full and most certainly became loyal afterward. I think Heals is funny combination of high quality and not-so-high quality items mixed in not- so push and almost messy looking environment, it mostly just home decoration but then they have selection of cosmetics there? Very unexpected and always hard to say before hands if the thing you are looking for can be found from that shop. But I am thinking of going there when I start my operation for Christmas presents because I always seem to find something innovative and hilarious stuff from this shop. read more

Heal's is the perfect store for all things kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, furnishings & furniture. I've bought all manner of things here from crockery to bins to picture frames to bed linen to sofas. With an eye for design, this store is crammed full of well designed & functional pieces. Its the natural step up from those who get the bug at Habitat, but is slightly below the uber-design of the Conran shop. Definitely a first-visit location whenever i'm thinking of chairs, sofas, beds or furnishings. And always worth a trip at Sale time when you can get some great bargains. read more

Heal's store is located in a beautiful old arts and crafts building still bearing the sign Heal&Son Ltd. The building itself houses two stores. At the main entrance, take the left door to Habitat and the right entrance to Heal's. The shop is laid out over two levels. On the ground floor you will find all the small home and kitchen appliances as well as cutlery, crockery, glassware, barware, accessories and other assorted items, all bearing the high quality of Heals' brand. I often pop in this store on the way home from work with intention to browse, but more often than not I walk out with a bag full of Heal's goodies. It is especially nice browsing through the shop during the Christmas season, as there are many nice decorations and food and gift items to be found on offer. The first floor of the shop contains furniture, carpets, lamps and all other bulkier items. All of the products in this store are of very high quality and made in the recognizable Heal's style of design. read more

Try out the Heal's cafe/restaurant on the 1st floor called 'Meal's'. Not a great pun name but the afternoon tea is great. Feels like you've gone back to the 1940's. Choice of lots of different types of tea and little dainty sandwiches, scone with cream and jam and a selection of two pastries. All brought to you on a little silver stand. May seem a little steep at £9.50 but it's so much food that you could share one between two. Service a little slow, but it feels like an old fashioned style refuge from the hectic and noisy bustle of modern London life. Good place to take your aunty if she's up to London on a day trip. read more

TERRIBLE QUALITY AND CUSTOMER SERVICE. AVOID!!!! I purchased the Lars Desk from Heal's Furniture for ~£700. The desk was delivered and installed by Heal's Furniture. I purchased it as a study desk which it is advertised as. Be warned this piece is very unstable. Even without anything on it it rocks back and forth and side to side. It is poorly designed as the legs are clearly not adequately supported. In addition the left draw on our desk does not close properly. We gave Heal's the opportunity to fix this by writing to their customer service team. They informed us that before anything can be done they need to send a technician to inspect the piece. The technician visited. Borrowed our tools to try tighten the legs which was already not a great sign. The technician then told us that he cannot write much as he / his business could loose their job. Clearly they are conflicted and incentivised to not write down what really is wrong with a piece of furniture. This was the first red flag. We then received an email that day from Heal's saying that "the technician report has come through to use and they have confirmed that there is no fault with the desk whatsoever. Therefore, we unfortunately cannot offer a return on this". This is completely unacceptable, dishonest and cheap! We have asked to see the report and customer service has now simply stopped replying. We have been left with no choice but to make sure all consumers are aware of Heal's underhanded and dishonest ways. Do not buy furniture from this cheap manufactures and supplier! We did not purchase a rocking desk and a desk of this value should be stable and solid without question! read more

Heal's a the place to get expensive furniture and homewares. However, I do think that it is over-rated and over-priced. I can easier get something simlar for less elsewhere without the 'heal's' branding. It is like the more expensive version taht Habitata nad cater for richer crowd. If you have spare money then go for it, otherwise there are better bargains out there. read more

Yes, 1 star seems harsh, but whilst SOME of the items are lovely in this store, be warned that a number of the items they stock are sold at hugely inflated prices (ie. up to 100%) in many cases (such as lighting). Please beware and do your research before making your purchase. Heal's is great for ideas and presents, but lots of their stuff is available elsewhere at their 'proper' price. Ridiculously overpriced products and they are happy to mislead customers into thinking that they have got a good deal when infact they have doubled the prices on their items, then are reduced in the 'half price sale' when infact they are still more expensive than other shops at their non-sale prices! At first I was really impressed with Heals. The collection is stylish and interesting, the quality of goods was topnotch and the service seemed quite good. However, once they had my payment, the good service ended. I purchased two beds and asked questions to ensure they would be put together once they were delivered even though one of them was noted as a self-assembly product. Susan the sales woman, assured us this would not be a problem. However, when the delivery arrived the beds came in hundreds of pieces and the delivery guys didn't have time for me. When I rang Heals to find out why this had happened I got shuffled from department to department and everyone told me there was nothing they could do. I rang Susan multiple times and to this day I have still not received a phone call back from her. After a week and a half of continual calls, they admitted there had been a mistake and that one of the beds was supposed to be put together and told me it would be £60 service fee to put the other bed together. After all the assurances I had received from Susan when purchasing the beds, I think that was an unacceptable offer. I was planning on spending quite a bit more money with Heals, but now I will never ever shop with them again. read more

This shop is great. Even though I don't need any furniture I like to have a look at what they have. I get ideas for my house by looking at their things. You can get lots of small things as gifts too. They have alot of lovely things in there like vases, candles, cutlery and many other things. They also sell wonderful bed linen. The quality is so good it feels so soft on your skin. This is definately the place to visit when you're thinking about redecorating. There is something really special about Heal's that seems to be lacking in other retail stores. Always a fantastic range of products - furniture, bedding, kitchenware, home accessories, gifts and more - all beautifully presented in a lovely old building. Even if you don't stop to buy (but I defy you to leave the store without doing so) it's great just to walk around and look at the great designs. Leading brands are mixed with new/unusual designs. a greedy, snotty and overpriced shop that unfortunately has some nice stuff in it. ordered a chair for £895. chair to take 10 weeks to arrive, delivery is not free (£50) and they 'don't do stairs.' they are happy however to take the money from my account straight away. 10 weeks before delivery. they also refuse to take packaging away with them. they really could learn from John Lewis. overall Heals leaves a bad taste. a lot of the staff seem to think think they are something else too. also (i was hiding behind the towels!) overheard a female manager and a customer who had tried to buy an item at an advertised price - only to be told at the till that it was £200 more expensive than the ticket. obviously he wanted to get it for the advertised price and mentioned that he thought it was law. she just laughed at him and said, 'well why don't you try taking us to court and see what happens'. the man backed down. its that kind of place i think. read more
