Upon arrival for my appointment with Luis, he greeted me and walked me over to the back where I would wash my hands as well as he. I've been going to Vanessa for 5 years now and I couldn't ask for a better stylist. Vanessa is extremely knowledgeable and creative, she truly knows her stuff. Not only does she give you superior service she is also very friendly and easy to talk to. She gets a feel for who you are makes good suggestions about what haircuts/color/styles would work best for you. I'm very spontaneous and I like to change my look often. Vanessa has given me highlights from Blonde, Red, Purple, Light Brown, Dark Brown.. every single time there was a different placement and unique blend that looked A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. Now onto haircuts.. when I first started going to Vanessa I had medium length hair. I didn't anything too crazy just trims with layers and color. She always exceeded my expectations, it's like she's a mind reader. As time went on, I decided to take chances and Vanessa has given me various haircuts from a sexy A-line to an edgy asymmetric bob (shown in my profile pic), and ended with a cube bob. You basically sit down, start having a great conversation with her, and before you know it, you walk out with rockstar hair. She specializes in edgy hair cuts and seems to have a lot of male clients. There was no problem even though I have thick asian hair. I always say "I trust you, do whatever with my hair. I want something crazy and different." She didn't even hesitate. It turned out amazing, I love it! I went to Tangerine for two years before I made the switch. Vanessa said she actually worked there for 4 years, so the edgy cuts made sense. Tangerine is a bit notorious for being pretty snooty, so come to Vanessa if you want an edgy haircut you'd get at Tangerine but without the snooty-ness. Vanessa doesn't do walk-ins and she books her own appointments so you'll need her cell number. And starting March I think she said, she'll only be available for a couple days during the week. Two things to not do. (I did both...) - It's a house, but don't ring the doorbell. Just walk in and turn left. - Don't stand at the reception desk, there isn't a receptionst. Peek in and look for your stylist and let her know you're there. Anyways, so this place might be a little different than what you're use to. The atmosphere is home-y compared to other salons. It's pretty much a house and all the stylist work for themselves. When you get there, there won't be a receptionist or anything. Certain stylists will book their own appointments so if you call Headcase, they'll give you the number. Kinda funny how I found this place... I work nearby and randomly drove past it. I really haven't found my go-to stylist yet since I moved up here, so I looked Headcase up on trusty Yelp and read reviews for Vanessa. Called her right away to schedule an appointment (Vanessa keeps her own book so you have to call her directly to make an appointment). What can I say? Vanessa is great. She's so nice and makes you feel at ease right when you meet her. I really felt like I was talking to an old friend (why is it that some stylists make you feel so comfortable that you can dish the dirt with them right away?). I didn't do anything drastic with my hair - it really was just a trim and she did a great job - but I will probably go back in a month or two for a wave perm and will update my review then. She has been cutting and coloring my hair for approximately 10 years now, and I'm always receiving compliments. She definitely knows how to cut and style my thin hair, and she's been able to color my hair so many different ways over the years. Vanessa is all about her clients and goes out of her way to make sure we're happy with her work. You can tell she loves styling hair! It's also great that's she's so fun and easygoing. It's not easy to find a hairstylist like her! Most recently, she did my hair for my wedding. She's done an updo for me before when I was a bridesmaid. Vanessa made my short hair looks voluminous and long, all curled up. So, I knew from that experience she would make my wedding hairstyle amazing. At the trial, she spent her time curling, teasing, and pinning it to get it how I wanted. On the day of my wedding, she made my updo so beautiful and exactly what I wanted. Which is a beautiful yellow Victorian house just 2 blocks from Santa Clara St. North of downtown, has immediate access to Highway 87, easy access to 280 and 101 and minutes to airport. The salon is beautifully decorated & is very inviting with free parking behind the house . I was referred to Stefanie by my daughter Nicole. I was told she gets very booked up & I quickly made my appointment cause I could not wait to meet her as my daughter raved about her and shown me her work on Pin interest. I came to Stefanie with some highlights that were a mess, uneven & dull color. I always feel like stylists color my hair how they feel they want it. I prefer my highlights to look natural & sun-kissed not chunky or reddish. Stefanie listened carefully and suggested an ash color highlights, Olaplex treatment & a trim. Priscylla is one of best hair dressers I've ever had! An Indian girl with long untamed hair (aka myself) is very picky about my hair. She first gave me a great haircut that was still long but had shape and looked healthy. She consulted me on how I should do my hair as I just wanted to go lighter but still be maintainable. She talked me through the process and ensured me I wasn't going to go where I didn't want to with my color. She was friendly, a great conversationalist, and a genuinely really nice person. I visited Stephanie Garcia at Headcase Salon for the first time back in June, as I wanted to do something crazy with my hair for Electric Daisy Carnival. I didn't have a definitive vision of how I wanted my hair to end up, except I knew I wanted my hair to be colored deep-pink, with stars and shooting stars outlined into my hair in different colors. (Look at the pics, they are AWESOME!!!) Stephanie and I had been in touch prior to my appointment, and I shared with her google images of star shaped designs I found appealing. This gave her a basic idea of what I was hoping for. However, I knew I wanted a different variation. Stephanie was well prepared by the time of our appointment and had already created some star-shaped stencils. After bleaching my hair, Steph began shaving the star designs into each side of my head. I trusted her right away, and gave her complete artistic and creative freedom of which designs to use on each side. The result was excellent! I must have been stopped at least 20-30 times each night of the festival, people complimenting me and wanting to take pictures with me. Even now that I've had my haircut since, there's still some pink remaining on top of my head and looks great. I plan to keep dying my hair every 2-3 months just to keep my look fresh and exciting! Headcase's decor is visually appealing and a relaxed atmosphere. Parking is easy, and there's wine/beer and snacks on site as an added bonus. If I could I would give them ZERO STARS!!! This is the worst salon I have ever gone to. Maybe this salon works out for some people, and my hair cut is OK, but i never got such a bad color job done. I had my hair come out in different color before, but i went to this salon with 3 hair colors in my hair and when out with 10 different (and not in the good way). my hair is now a pink/orange color on the top of my head, my ends are auburn, and my blond highlight are white on the roots. I got color spilled on me, and after I spend almost 4 hours I left crying. they still charged me 115 dollars. what a f***ing rip off. now I have to get it fixed what will cost even more money. my hairstylist was sweet, but she did not know her job, and the freaking junior stylist there did want to start argument with me although she did not have anything to do with my hair. all in all, I hope nobody else ever has to go through this ever. read more

Their brazillian blowout rocks. I had super dry hair that a straight iron couldn't even tame. It begain taking me longer and longer to straighten it. After I got this I let my hair air dry and it was a major improvement. It now takes me like 5 strokes to style my hair. It still has a wave but in terms of frizziness I would say it's 95% improved considering I've bleached my hair several times. The softness is delightful. I got the super good deal on trubates for $130. But ended up spending another $75 on cut and a bottle of shampoo. It's still a better deal than most other salons who are charging $200-$250 for just the procedure. I came in looking pretty ungroomed and left looking like a girl again. My stylist was Laurie. Really nice, funny and patient. She did spend 3 hours on my hair, from 6:30 to 9:30. I watched her take care of each section with careful detail. My hair was not an easy task. I would recommend. I didn't use a Living Social deal but had another voucher that I was able to redeem without any hassle. I was debating whether to leave a review, but since I know how hard it is to find a good salon and how expensive and timely trial and error is, I felt it was only right. I have thick Asian hair. It requires A LOT of pruning and scissor or razor work to get it into any kind of shape. Unfortunately, Headcase is not the salon for me. Long story short, after bringing in large photos and explaining what I wanted - lots of layers and thinning out - I did not get it. My haircut had only minimal light layers in the front and was cut too short and blunt otherwise. I was in the chair for way too short a time for what I was asking for. The end result was not flattering. I gave the cut a week to settle in and it still looked too blunt. When I went to another salon for color, both the owner and the stylist commented that my hair was not cut properly to show off color (no layers) and that the cut itself was again, just too blunt. It made my hair hang very heavy and uniform. I got my hair cut again at that other salon and it was night and day difference. I literally felt like a weight had been taken off my head and my hair moves now and is very easy to style. I'm not going to slam Headcase or the stylist for the blunt cut - as an Asian woman I've tried many salons looking for a stylist who can properly thin out and shape my hair. Most just don't seem familiar with how coarse my hair is and aren't nearly aggressive enough in cutting. You really have to be *aggressive* with my kind of hair, a light touch with the scissors does nothing. It was a disappointing haircut but that's not that unusual. I would have been very disappointed had I paid full price. The salon itself is cute and my stylist was very friendly, it's just not the place for me. *Update* My hair is still growing out from the bad haircut I received here and I'm ticked. Thinking back on it, the stylist at Headcase was friendly but she did NOT listen to me. And for the price of the haircut the amount of time she spent cutting my hair (15 minutes at max) is not worth it at all. Many better options out there. read more

Came in here for the first time rolling the dice hard: My baby mullet had been growing strong for weeks, and I had a first date that night. No can do. I told Jessica what was at stake, and she wasn't fazed ("that's some thick hair back there"). Haircut was awesome. Date was terrible, but that's because she talked about her divorce for 80% of the time. It's possible that haircuts here will make your dates pour their hearts out about their ex-husband, but it's more likely that was a coincidence. Either way, the haircut was awesome, Jessica was friendly and helpful with style advice, etc. I'd recommend her haircuts as strongly as I'd recommend against talking about your ex on a first date. read more

Headcase Salon gave me a headache! My stylist would cancel me a few days before my scheduled appointment! It would be one thing if it happened once or twice, but over the course of a year over 3x! I stopped counting! Each time that occurred, I would try and reschedule with some of the more senior staff members however they were booked up. I was only left with the junior folks that were recently trained. I decided enough is enough, and I can't keep going back to a salon where my stylist keeps on flaking on my appointments. This place is incredible! My stylist is Ginnette and she is so much fun and is not intimidated by the bold haircuts/styles I want. I trust her completely. The atmosphere is perfect; always offering something to drink or eat, and always smiling and friendly. My first time at Headcase was 3 days after a long-term boyfriend dumped me, and it was there that I first felt truly happy after the breakup. I seriously couldn't stop smiling. Headcase is fabulous, friendly, and fun. It's also amazingly well priced! I feel like what I get is worth way more than they charge. I feel like a million bucks every time. I have had so many compliments on my haircuts from Ginnette, even months after it's been cut. I've gone to other salons before and payed the same price and had horrible haircuts each time where they load your hair with products, don't do what you want, and don't try very hard to make you look good. It's a house, a little hard to find because the sign outside isn't too noticeable. But inside, the decor... my god, it's gorgeous. I was oogling the place the whole time. They have coffee, and cookies, and candy. I also like the Redken products they use. My sister and I got haircuts together at this salon a little while back. The owner of the place cut my sister's hair, while some new girl cut mine. They were both very sweet and attentive. I can't remember their names now! They washed our hair, we watched TV during the conditioning. Then we were offered glasses of wine for during the haircut. AWESOME! They placed us near one another, and the both of them chatted with us the whole time. It was really nice, but "asian glow" and my disorientation without glasses made me feel a little strange. If you want constant complements on your hair you must go to VANESSA. She's especially patient because I never really know what I want. She's a great listener and always figures out what to do with my hair. Make sure you book an appointment with her a week ahead of time. If you do, she'll gladly fit you in. She's colored, cut, styled my hair for about two years now and each time she works on me, I fall in love with my hair all over again. She's seen me through waist to shoulder length hair and everywhere in between. There have been bangs, layers, different colors including my natural gray, you name it, all of which I've absolutely loved. She's also one of those rare stylists who can give you a haircut that looks just as good weeks after the freshly styled hair honeymoon period has ended. I'm kind of at a loss on how to rate this place. I really wanted to like them since my stylist was super sweet and very personable, but my haircut was ehhh. Bought the living social deal for $35 because there were so many good reviews. Called the stylist to make an appointment and was asked if I wanted a blow dry or a deep conditioning or both. I chose one, but was persuaded to do both the day of my appointment. At the end, I ended up being charged an additional $15, so in total I spent $50. When I asked how much a regular cut was, guess what she said! $50! So I bought the living social deal for nothing. Guess that's my fault cause I shoulda asked before I agreed to the whole thing but geez I was pretty upset about that. But back to the cut..I thought she understood what I wanted but in the end I came out with a cut I could've gotten from an asian salon for $15. So even though I'm dissatisfied with my cut, the service was awesome so 3 stars. read more

I have been going to Vanessa for about 3 years now and I am still just as impressed with her work as I was when I first got my hair done by her. She's never failed me or steered me in the wrong direction. She was the one who convinced me to chop my LONG hair off.... I haven't regretted it since! This salon has so much potential! Like many of the other reviews have said, Headcase is new downtown. It is a reconstructed Victorian that reminds me of an Audrey Hepburn/Marilyn Monroe kind of Hollywood glamour. The decor of the whole place is m favorite. All of their furniture has an antique, yet contemporary, feel to it. I can see this place being a great place for hip and stylish moms. Upon taking a quick tour of the place, I found that they sell the cutest dresses for little girls. They are handmade and of very delicate fabric. Next to the cute dresses, I also found pretty bracelets and other knick-knacks on sale. As for hair products, they use Redken and Moroccan Oil, both of which I have never used before. Vanessa put Redken's Leave - in Conditioner in my hair and it smelled FABULOUS. I bought my own and threw away the Paul Mitchell one as soon as I got home. I would've bought shampoo and conditioner as well but I stopped myself because my husband would've killed me if I threw out all my (practically new) Paul Mitchell stuff and replaced them...... so, maybe I'll do it one at a time so he doesn't notice haha! I have been going to Vanessa since she was working at Tangerine Salon. She has been doing my hair for 4 years now, and I would never go to anybody else. Vanessa is an amazing stylist, she has an eye for all types of hair. She makes my hair look amazing every time, and always gives me what I need every time. And I love talking to her and spending hours with her when I get hair done. I have referred all my friends (7) to Vanessa. All my friends love her as well and continue to refer all their friends to her as well. It's amazing how she makes it look effortless. To me, this just reinforces that her skill is innate. I'm sold on her salon not just because of the FABULOUS interior design (and I'm a Feng Shui Consultant, and an interior designer, so that's saying a lot)....but the whole experience is just great. One time I wasn't too happy with my hair color, so I went back, and Stacie tweaked it for free. I was very happy with the results, and that she cares enough to make sure her customers are satisfied. I am so happy I went here to get my cut and color! I work right across the street and it was so convenient for me. I always noticed this place, but was worried it may be too "trendy" for me. I was so wrong. It was so comfortable, the staff there made me feel right at home. The salon is absolutely adorable, but the very best part was the talent and the personality of my stylist, Billie. I have been to Headcase Salon four times now, each time I have gone I have insisted on being with Lisa. The first time I went , I scheduled an appointment for my little sister . She wanted cut and color, it was late but Lisa fit us in . Brittanys color turned out amazing it was precisely what she wanted, Lisa couldnt have done a better job. Due to my little sister experience I promptly made and appointment for about a week later with Lisa. This time it was my turn, she gave me beautiful highlights and a cut. My hair is so much more warm and it looks gorgeous , I constantly get compliments on how much my hair accentuates my look. I went for a touch up and cut today and it looks just as amazing if not better than before , which i love because when it comes to a hairstylist CONSISTENCY is important. The fourth time I came i brought my best friend she had never had a cut beside super cuts before this and I decided to treat her for her birthday. I went it for color, hi-lights, and cut and used the coupon from the yelp reviews. I ended up getting color, cut and keratin treatment. The prices when rolled together are pretty good; I saved over $200 on my treatments. My stylist was Lori and she is super nice and accommodated my last minute change of mind for what I wanted. She listened to what type of color and style I wanted and it turned out great. I woke up this morning and my hair still looks like it did yesterday right out of bed. Vanessa did hair and makeup for my bridesmaids and I and we looked amazing! I went to Headcase because it was right next to my work. There is free parking about 3 blocks away if your willing to walk. My Bridesmaids are unique people and Vanessa did a great job of capturing them in their hair style. One hair style does not fit all. Everything went really well and Vanessa was so nice! My first experience here wasn't the greatest, but hey, everyone makes mistakes! I was unhappy with the results of my first highlight with a different stylist there. Stacey was awesome and changed my negative first experience into a positive one. The thing I loved about Stacey was that she walked me through the process of coloring/highlighting hair. I have been getting my hair dyed for over seven years and never really understood the hair lingo or what every hair stylist was doing to my hair. Let me start off with saying that I am kinda lost when it comes to getting my hair styled.. I am quite clueless. I really don't know how to communicate what it is that I want. Instead of sitting in the chair with a succinct list detailing what I would like done to my hair, I sit down with a confused look on my face and ramble off a couple of things that I don't like. Then Lori nods, asks a couple of questions, I answer as best I can.. and then 45 minutes later I walk out with a haircut that receives many compliments from friends and co-workers alike...It's amazing! And this isn't some one time fluke.. Lori has been taking the ramblings of a man who knows nothing about her craft and somehow turning it into exactly what I want for over 7 months now!
