Highly disorganised, very poor service…read more Booked an appointment, I turned up a few minutes early from the time booked. I was told by the lady I booked that she is with another client and is running slightly late, and will be with me within 15 minutes. I let her know that this is fine, but stressed that I must leave to pick up my daughter and it cannot be later than this, to which she said that this will be fine. 35 minutes after the booked time she still wasn't finished with the client. Another hairdresser offered to cut my hair, but it only left me with 10-15 mins before I had to leave. Had no choice but to walk out. I definitely would not recommend using this salon based on my experience with them.

A year or so ago I endured a terrible incident with my hair. I fancied myself a platinum blond, so…read moreI did what any creative, determined (idiotic, foolish and stupid) person would do and I decided to dye it myself. I trotted down to the pharmacy and bought two packets of peroxide hair dye. Don't even know what brand. The instructions allowed me 90 minutes of development time, so I stuck in on and settled down. After 45 minutes (I can almost hear the cringing) I was a tad concerned - it felt like *ages* and my head was getting rather warm, shall we say. So I put my head under the shower and began to wash it all off. Oh. My. God. If you've seen that scene from The Craft, the scene where the blond girl's hair begins to come out in her hands when she is in the shower - yep. That was me. It was the most horrendous experience, my hair when wet was like chewing gum - it stretched and then snapped, and when dry it just snapped. So. Bad day. My house mate tried to console me by getting me to put avacado in the mangled nest on my head and first thing that morning she booked me an appointment at the only hairdressers she could find open on a Sunday - Hana Lee. Despite the fact that I was in tears for the whole appointment, which lasted a good two and a half hours, Hana Lee did the most wonderful job. My hair went from being almost waist length to chin length, as there was just no way of saving it. She put two coats of natural hair dye on it, a dark blond shade, to hide the scalp white roots. She was friendly and kind and did her best to distract me, despite the fact I was distraught. Finally she gave me all the advice she could to save the hair that was there from falling out or getting any more damaged. I purchased some specialist oils and mousses that I had to use every day, I was only allowed to wet my hair once every two weeks to wash it and I couldn't use any straighteners, hairdryers or curling tongs lest they destroyed my hairs. Not only did Hana Lee save me completely from one of the worst accidents I'd ever had with my hair, but she made the fix job look stylish and natural. She was so lovely too. The only reason I can't offer 5 stars is that on returning to her salon another girl cut my hair, and didn't do nearly as good a job as she had done. And, sadly, as Hana Lee is the owner and manager I simply can't afford to have her cut my hair each time since her prices are the most expensive of all the staff. If you want a great, stylish cut and a decadent experience (and you've enough to treat yourself) go to Hana Lee, just make sure you ask for the lady herself!

Generally, I am a very lazy person when it comes to my appearance. I rarely wear makeup, or…read morejewellery, and I never do anything with my hair beyond a wash and perhaps a quick hairdrying. I have often found myself the victim of over-zealous hairdressers who want to style me. On many occasions I have left the hairdresser with a haircut that looks amazing but I will be completely incapable of recreating it at home. The thing I hate the most though is straighteners. I have pretty straight hair as it is and when the power of straighteners is added to it the ends look like they could split someone's throat. As a result, I parted company with my old hairdresser when they openly disregarded my request to not have my hair straightened. With a apprehensive heart, therefore, I went in search of a new hairdresser and ended up with Darren at Mega City One. What a joy. He complimented the condition of my hair (most pleasing), paid attention and did exactly what I wanted. No straighteners, no hair spray, no nothing. On subsequent occasions, if he is at all unsure about what I mean, he shows a picture of what he is thinking so there are no unfortunate surprises when it comes to the mirror moment. And only 25.50, which to be fair I still consider a lot for a haircut, although I accept that my thoughts are out of kilter with the rest of world and 25.50 is actually pretty cheap. I even managed to persuade the boyfriend to give it a go, and naturally, he is frightened of getting his hair cut. Something to do with scissors nearby his face. The first time I had to go with him, but now he is happy to go on his own and as a result, now looks presentable for 78% of the year. Hurray!!

I always leave with a cut I like and can manage. The only thing to remember is that it's cash only! I've always been put off by pretentious hair salons which are impersonal and make you feel like another person on the assembly line, and you should be so lucky to have your hair cut there... This place is definitely not like that. I'm so happy I found it and will be sad when I eventually move and have to give it up. It is a diamond in the rough!

After a few minutes of slight awkwardness I am taken to my chair, offered a drink and begin to feel well attended to. The stylist talks me through want I want to have done and then one of the juniors washes my hair and gives me a scalp massage in the process, which is always my favourite part of getting my hair cut. The stylist cut my hair quickly while chatting politely about holidays and the weather, the standard topics covered in a hair salon. I was very pleased with the cut and blow dry and it was reasonably priced. Overall it was a very pleasant experience, the salon is clean and the décor simple and bright. Although initially the staff were not overtly friendly by the end of the visit they were so jovial and friendly that I would recommend a trip to this salon. http://beautytruthsnotuglylies.blogspot.com/

I was surprised that it was solely filled with male hairdressers (although looking at their website it appears that there are women that work here), but Russel did wonders with my hair (he's single, ladies) and gave me a very funky hair cut that looked awesome on the slopes! The only problem around here is parking. the streets are always rammed!

Michael, the hair stylist, is from former Omega on Harrogate road. I think people should know that, as if i had known i wouldn't have gone... purely because when i was 17 he made me have a coiffured old lady haircut! (with back combing and everything!). Anyway, that's by-the-by. he did a very good cut. what i wanted, but just would NOT stop talking and telling me what he was doing and how wonderful he was and how he didn't really want to be back in Leeds and London was much better! gah! He didn't seem to trust his minions. When his receptionist answered the phone, he would have to break off from cutting my hair to talk to them to give them a price as she apparently didn't have a list in front of her and had no clue (i should have realised this annoyance, when i rang up and had to talk to him to get a hair quote!). he gave me to someone else to blow dry my hair, but then took it back off her. I'm surprised that he didn't take over the making of my coffee...which was in fact awful, so maybe he should have! Overall a very bizarre experience. I got a good haircut (no back combing, but it was VERY big!), but was uncomfortable for an hour with fumes and an egoist. Oh and then when it came to pay he plucked a different number out of the air than the one he had quoted to me on the phone (5 pounds more!), but i just wanted to get out of there! Won't be going back!

While living in Leeds, I've flitted from salon to salon on a budget, never really ending up completely happy with my haircut or hairdresser. One day after looking at Google reviews, I decided to give Renaissance a try, and boy am I glad I did! I was booked in with George, who asked me loads of questions about what I wanted, what I did and didn't like about my hair, how I style it, etc. George was really friendly, offered to get me a drink (including wine or beer - how good is that?!), and just completely made me feel at ease. I was really happy with my hair when George had finished - it looked exactly like I had in mind. I've been back several times now and been really happy each time, it finally looks like I can stop flitting from salon to salon! It wasn't expensive either, though I think it's recently increased to around £34.
