This place is cool. I brought my daughter in to check this place out a while back and she enjoyed it. It's a super busy place, so many tiny dancers running around everywhere. I'm sure after a while you'd find order within the chaos, but it did feel like chaos. I didn't really no where to go and what to do, and the front desk just seems a bit numb to it, so I had to ask specifically where to go what to do etc. I would think they would help out and make me feel a little bit more at home. I didn't sign her up at the time because they were about to have a recital and my daughter was too late to start to be apart of that, so half the class would be on that and my daughter would miss out. I'm still considering the idea of bringing her back when the time is right. read more

Very happy to have come across this studio for our daughter! Our former studio had closed for renovations and we happened upon HBP performing at the Tustin Chili Cook-off and Street Fair. Our daughter was awestruck at the energy and enthusiasm put out by these kids. When they were done performing she turned to us and said, "I want to do that!" She did the free trial classes and found her, "happy place". There truly is a sense of family in this studio. Huggy and Laurie have created an environment that seems chaotic at times, but is a truly great environment for the kids. There is a true family vibe that extends from the kids out to the parents. This can be felt when they have parent hip hop classes or a parent dance during their annual June Performance. Recitals and showcases at a couple of the other studios we've tried were nowhere near as fun as HBP's. Choreography, lighting, sound and the energy of the dancers makes for a really good production. There are kids that simply come for a class or two a week. Some just come for the free trial and fall in love with it. Then there are "The Company" kids. The Company kids compete in regional and "national" competitions. I would 100% recommend this dance studio to anyone that asked. We've been part of the HBP family for approximately 14 years. Owners Huggy Ford and Laurie Weiner, as well as all the HBP faculty and staff members are an incredible team of professionals. Our girls have learned more than just how to dance at HBP. Being part of HBP's Dance Company, they've learned how to work as a team, set and achieve goals, stay focused, and persevere when the going gets tough. In addition, the girls have found a love of dance and performance. The opportunity of performing on stage with HBP has not only developed their confidence in dance, but also their skills at school. The girls can effortlessly get up in front of the classroom and give an A+ speech or presentation. Also, a popular reward program at HBP, called "Huggy's Pocket", motivates all the students to work towards straight A's. If I had to guess, I'd say over 90% of the dancers at HBP are extraordinarily high achievers. I can't thank Huggy and Laurie enough for making such a difference in our kid's lives. HBP is the BEST! Three years later I wouldn't change a thing. The studio is full of highly talented teachers who care about the students! They motivate the kids to do their best not only on the dance floor but at school and in life. Hip Hop Basics is the class to go to if you want to learn from the best! Huggy is cutting edge, he introduces the girls to new music as well as classics. His moves are current and always fresh. Yes, his class is full because everyone wants to learn from him. Try his other classes, they have more elbow room. The girls in the front are Huggy's assistants, they have earned the right to help teach his choreography to the rest of the class. When my daughter started and needed help, those assistants were invaluable! Yes, the studio is only one room. That's the charm of HBP, it's a small studio where my daughter considers it her second home. I feel safe knowing that I'm leaving my daughter in such caring hands. Huggy cares for every single student. This isn't about making money. He encourages the students to always work hard. Get good grades, study, and do your best! All the teachers genuinely care for all the students. They always make themselves available to help. The families that are at HBP are wonderful too! My daughter loves this studio and my family stands behind everyone at HBP. I'm sorry that one person had a bad experience, but one person isn't a true representation of the whole studio. read more

15+ hours of dance per week! It sounds crazy but my daughter would never change it for the world. HBP has taught her in the last four years not only dance but valuable lessons in life. She has learned to push herself to be the best that she can be in order to move up through the different levels of Company. This has taught her that things in life are earned and not given to you. The studio has been like home away from home. It's a place where she can get away from the pressures at school and through the years, she has built very close friendships with all of her dance friends. Huggy, Laurie, Noelle, Aaron and Megan have all been an inspiration to my daughter. They are a group of talented choreographers and I can't tell you the love and respect they get from her and all the of the dancers at HBP! Lastly, with all the time us moms spend at the studio and competitions, we have all become very close friends. There's not a mom that is not willing to pick/drop off or take care of your daughter/son if they needed our help. HBP is top class for dance schools in Tustin. My daughter tried three different schools before deciding this was her home. Huggy is not only a coach but a mentor. When my daughter has struggled at school he helped her threw it. He has tough love which in a world where kids get everything they want this is helping my daughter to be a motivated driven individual. You might find his hip hop class large however if you've ever watched how the kids dance in it, it makes you want to get up and dance. And is a true testament that every kid wants to dance with him and for him. All three of my daughters have danced here and we would never leave. If you want a stuffy studio where you get the same choreography then HBP is not for you. If you want a fun, family environment from the coaches, kids and parents then look no further! read more

My daughter has been at HBP for almost 10 years now. When we moved back to the Tustin area, we tried 4 other local dance studios and this is the studio she chose and secretly, I was hoping she would too!!! I love the old time vibe inside. It always reminded me of Fame that I watched when I was a kid. I felt the love of dance, when I sat there, and that's what I felt when I watched the kids and teachers. I let her make the decision at 6 years old. I wanted her to be comfortable where she danced. She loved all the teachers and grew to love them even more! They are her family. They know how to teach and coach for each age level. As kids get older, they need a gentle push to grow and get even better, as with every sport. I feel they do that just right. My daughter has become stronger and more confident at almost 16 years old. I enjoy watching her grow and become the young lady she is! I wouldn't have it any other way. I truly believe they are 2nd family. She has learned great life skills at HBP that I did not teach her. The team is her family and sisters and brother and I wouldn't change if for the world. I don't care how nice a dance studio is!!! This place has character and history. Huggy is so gifted in how he choreographs these classes. In my books he is amazing. I was in awe the other night watching the girls dance hip hop! My daughter LOVES coming here. When I heard Huggy had a dance studio in old town Tustin I couldn't wait to get my daughter signed up under him. He was my Jazz teacher in the early 90's at Irvine Dance Academy in Irvine, and I knew I would want my daughter to take instruction from him. I remember when he told me he choreographed one of MC Hammer's dances and will never forget how fun he was. If your child is sensitive and doesn't take instruction well then go someplace else where your child will be babied. This dance studio is for learning how to dance while having fun at it and meeting new friends. Don't give it a second thought. PS Noelle is awesome too. read more

My son started dancing with HBP a year ago. We were looking for technique classes to support his ballroom dancing and also other styles for him to try. What we found at HBP was so much more. We love, love, LOVE this studio, the staff, and the kiddos. My son looks forward to every class he takes (technique, hip hop, and tap). He loves all his teachers (Huggy, Laurie, Aaron, and Andrew). What he's learning here is way more than just dance. The studio does have a wonderful company, which performs and competes. However, there is not one ounce of a competitive feeling in the studio, and this is because the staff has created a very warm, supportive, caring community. The dancers (company or not) cheer each other on and befriend each other. I've never seen an unhappy or stressed out dancer. They nurture fun and enjoyment. The kids are encouraged to grow at their own pace, without pressure to be better than anyone else. There's no comparing, just support and love. My son performed for the first time in the studio's annual concert. I could not believe how well managed it was. The staff and parents did a fabulous job of managing 200 or so students. The shows went very smoothly and the kids had fun. The teachers work with the students on understanding how to embrace their mistakes, to "own it", do some freestyle, and smile and have fun even if they mess up. These are the life lessons they learn from these wonderful teachers...lessons way beyond being a good dancer. They are teaching the kids to be kind and caring individuals. As with most studios, there aren't as many boys, but it was nice to see about 15-20 performing at the concert. If you have a boy who enjoys dancing, I encourage you to try it out!!! He encourages them all and brings out the best in them ... including character, leadership and academic excellence. My daughter has not only learned to dance, but to clean up after herself around the studio, assist with teaching classes and reach academic goals to earn a spot in Huggy's Claim Jumper night out for dancers with excellent report cards! HUGS and kisses. My favorite part about your program is your matching outfits. I wish I had the fashion sense to put together such amazing art pieces. You truly have a rare eye for fashion. This is in response to the nonsensical 1-star review below. I have been dancing at HBP for 10 years and if there is one thing I've learned, it's that honest hard work, dedication, and passion is what gets you to where you want to be. If you're the kind of person who wants to walk into a studio, pay money, and expect your child to be put in the front, then you're at the wrong studio. Huggy rewards those that work hard. No amount of money will change that, which is how it should be. And as for the massive amount of students in one class? Clearly that's because everyone loves Huggy. He will not turn anyone away because he believes anyone should have the opportunity to share the love of dance. Huggy is funny and loves his students, but knows how to be serious when needed when students need to be pushed to work harder. This studio is different from other dance studios in that it's not ALL about dance, but also becoming a better person and working hard in all other aspects in life. Huggy ensures that his students excel first in school, then in dance. As a result of being his student, I have done better in school as well as other activities in my life. I know how to multitask to the extreme and have found that I have a significantly higher tolerance for stress, adversity, and much more than the average person. This studio turned me from a shy, complacent individual to an outgoing, ambitious, and intelligent person who has achieved more success than I ever expected. And I know that's because of the work dedication Huggy taught me. Above all, this studio is just pure FUN. Even on the worst of days you could walk in there and feel instantly at peace. It is a place that has become my second home. Thank you Huggy, Laurie, and other HBP Staff for all your dedication to the students and for spreading the joy of dance. Phenomenal studio has two locations and offers a variety of classes. Teachers genuinely care for the kids.

HBP is a great studio! My daughter dances here 5 or 6 days a week and loves it. From showing up to provide support at an empty convention center hall when your kid is the only one from the studio scheduled to do a solo at 9:45 on a Sunday night to checking report cards to make sure grades are good, the folks at HBP make it clear that they are invested in your kid's success in dance and outside of it. It's fun to watch Huggy's classes. Without making a big deal of it, he conveys an expectation that everyone involved is a professional. The students respond to that and before you know it a roomful of kids has turned into a roomful of dancers. They're having fun and joking, but they're dead serious about nailing each and every move. I'm glad my daughter dances at HBP. The choreography is spectacular, the teachers are first rate and the parents are fun to hang out with. More than that though, when my daughter graduates Company next year, she'll be a more confident, professional and responsible woman than she would have been had she not worked with Huggy, Laurie and HBP. read more

HBP dance extreme is a terrible studio. I would give 0 stars if i could. Not only are the dance instructors unfriendly, the studio itself is old, dirty, and run-down, and the choreography is either too boring or too rowdy. Huggy Ford is the meanest dance instructor I have ever seen. He is rude and loves to humiliate students in front of the whole class. When a student makes a mistake, he uses a high-pitched, mocking tone to mimic the girls. And when he positions the dancers, he pulls on the girls' ponytails or buns. As a mother I thought that this was unacceptable behavior. The studio only has one room - it looks like it used to be a barn to house cattle. The uploaded pictures do not accurately depict the only room of the studio, it is much darker, dirtier, and most importantly, much more crowded. I have counted up to 70 students in a single class! I am sure that the number of students FAR exceeds the maximum occupancy of the building. There is very limited space for movement, let alone dancing! I was always afraid that the children would get hurt trying to maneuver through such limited space. HBP staff seems to only care about making more money, because there is no cap for the class - they just keep accepting students! If they cared about giving the best dance instruction that they could possibly give, then they would not be accepting so many students in one class. It is not only a poor learning environment, but it could also be very dangerous, in case of hazardous situations. The choreography and the music also depicts the unorganized environment of the studio. 70 students are running in and out, making it difficult to follow the movement, and impossible to see dancers in the back. Sometimes, the dancers run into each other while moving in and out. They accepted 70 students, but only a select few get to dance most of the choreography - other dancers seem like background dancers running in and out. I understand that the better dancers should get better spots, but we are all paying the same amount of money, and everyone should be given a chance to at least be in the middle at SOME POINT of the choreography. This may be okay if there are not as many students, however, when there are 70 students, it is impossible to see anyone in even the middle row. The instructors, especially Huggy, exhibit blatant favoritism - the dancers that he likes are always given the best spots and the best choreography, while others are destined to be in the back corner. I don't usually write reviews, but I really feel strongly about this dance studio, and I have had many dreadful experiences. I am writing to warn others who are passionate about dance and care about getting their children the best quality of dance training that they can. So far, HBP is the WORST dance studio that I have ever been to, and many other mothers seem to agree. read more

HBP is a double top platinum, super diamond, elite top first place dance studio! All of the teachers care about each and every student. My daughter has been dancing here for 7 years and because of the instruction not only in dance but in life lessons that she has received, she is growing up to be a confident, well-rounded young lady. HBP is housed in a historical building in downtown Tustin. It is a one-room studio where no student is turned away due to the size of a class. Many studios limit the number of students in their classes, only accepting kids in performing groups or studio companies, but not here. Due to the size of the room and the genius of the teachers, upwards of 70 kids at a time can participate in an award-winning number. If your child has expressed an interest in dancing or you are looking to try a studio that offers all genres of dance (not acrobatics...dance) then HBP is for you!!! And if your child chooses to focus on dance, you won't find a better Company or Team experience. read more
