Our experience was not good with Hazeltine Nurseries. First, they didn't call 811 (approval to dig, by Florida statues) and hit the lines which cut off power to our gate podium and gates. After installing the plants, I didn't get the number that was on the quote and I was told that "You got more dirt so we gave you fewer plants". After some discussion, they agreed to add the plants. Be careful with the irrigation added to the contract. We were charged $2,000 for doing absolutely nothing and the comment was that the clock begins for hourly charges when they leave the plant! They were stuck on I75 so w e were charged for several hours. The sales person said that it was less than what we predicted, so you should be happy. This is not the service I expected. I asked for a manager/owner to call me back and never received a call. We will not consider Hazeltine in the future. read more

I called about a Geiger tree. Was told to leave my name and number and someone would call back the next day. Waited a week and stopped in to ask about it. Waited quite a long time in their office, finally yelled, "hello!" and someone came out. I asked about my Geiger tree. Her response was, (get this), "leave your name and numb..." I said, "Whoa. I already left my name and number and no one called me back". "Well, I'll call you back" she said, (she sounded just like the first person who told me that). I said isn't there some way you can check to see if one is available, even if it has to be ordered?" Her response? "Give me your name and...." I can certainly understand why this company only has a 2-star rating. I called to setup and appointment for an estimate for some landscaping (10-20K) and was told $500 !!! Not even applied to project if I hired them just for the "assessment as they called it" That's for maybe and hour of time invested - NO ONE, NO COMPANY is worth that. I swear - I have never been treated the way I was approached by a yahoo in a hat - greeted me with "Hey ladies we are getting ready to close, been here since 7:00 am or 7:30 - who the hell knows at this point what time he suggested he got to work - who gives a shit? I make my living in sales and all I can say is they are lucky they're is so so much growth in the area and they will do well in spite of their sub par employees greeting customers like that. He told my friend to "do her research" as she shared she was u sure of what would grow best during this time of year. I planned on spending about $2500 on plants that my HOA approved for install. The employee who helped us at Hazeltine Nurseries was very pleasant & willing to show us what they had to offer. The price she gave was on point. But then she said she couldn't sell me the tree right then (something I am now grateful for) and she provided me with the installers telephone number, for a quote on the whole "project". I left a message for the installer who sent me a proposal for $571 ; which included the price of the tree, and $300 to plant it! AND THERE WAS A TWO WEEK WAIT. I wasn't from the area, so I asked a friend who suggested Gulf Breeze Garden Center. Gulf Breeze's weeping bottle brush was immediately identifiable. Something Hazeltine's tree wasn't, AND GULF BREEZE's INSTALLATION WAS $40.00 and Gulf Breeze let me buy the tree right then & there & sent me off with a little flag to place where we wanted the tree planted! AND GULF BREEZE CAME OUT & PLANTED IT NEXT DAY! ....and left instructions to care for the tree. I am so glad I didn't buy from Hazeltine. read more

I'm waiting to see if they rectify the situation they have created here by planting and not watering in anything. Right now we have paid them over 6,000 for lumpy grass and dying plants. I've tried to get an acceptable response but haven't gotten one yet. They started a week ago and tore my fence down and left a big open spot where sod was supposed to be installed. I'm not sure if the workers are boycotting not being paid or what the problem is. But any normal worker for any reputable landscape company would know to water plants they just put in and would know how to put in sod with a roller so the roots will be in full contact with the soil and not die as well as being laid so people don't twist their ankles walking on it. read more

If less than 1 star was possible this is what I would rate their unprofessionalism. I work in Sarasota and Hazeltine Nurseries provides the landscaping, today my car was the only car in the parking lot. They cracked my windshield and my big issue is their lack of professionalism in reporting the damage. When I called the office instead of a simple I'm sorry I received you can't prove it. I was simply reporting it, in Florida every insurance policy covers a cracked windshield so I wasn't looking for compensation. Honestly, I would highly recommend looking for a professional team...this group is not it. read more

We have always liked Hazeltine nurseries so were confused by their poor rating on yelp. In reading the reviews, the poor ratings seem to reflect on the Landscaping/installation side of operation, not their retail side. The retail operation is very nice. It feels like walking into a upbeat little village with seasonal and holiday themed events and activities. Convenient uncrowned attractive layout, easy to walk around. I liked the nursery and the retail prices while visiting them seemed pretty reasonable. So... I went inside the business area to get a quote on grass cutting or many more. Well the young lady who took the info was lovely and kind an said she'd pass the info and they would call and come and made a tentative appointment for me. Well I have a small yard so I don't think they wanted the job. They left a message the next day after they were supposed to come and said the guy could not come because it was (lightly) raining. So we had a project and received bids for the work. The first bid from another landscaper almost gave me a heart attack! We took our plan to Hazeltine and after a few days received an email estimate HALF the price with a full yr plant guarantee vs 6 mo! Yeah, HALF! So my suspicions were the plants might be smaller or something, but no, that was certainly not the case. Ultimately they planted 4 foxtail palms, 12 areca palms, 4 copper leafs and relocated a nice Pigmy date palm... all in one day! The plants are amazing and the crew of 2 (David and ?) worked really hard and made sure we liked the plants/placement before they planted them. The project manager (Dan) was a great guy who made sure we were happy with the plants and overall project. They are a big operation and have lots going on so we had to wait about 3 weeks for our project to begin, but I am realistic and so glad we were patient. Poor design, bad Information, poor workmanship on landscape install and bad communication between departments. A job that was scheduled to take a few days has taken a year. They started by using my neighbor's yard as a dumping ground with out asking permission. Needless to say that neighbor doesn't speak to us much now. Let's throw in bad communication so the expected result isn't met. Who wouldn't want a yard full of sand? After all we're in FL. And drainage is apparently not a concern... and hey who needs expansion joints in a concrete slab? Isn't it supposed to crack 2 weeks later? As you can tell I'm a little bitter. Some of their folks did try to fix the issues but they were so bad I had them take it out. Leaving me with dead lumpy grass.... don't worry it will green up in the rainy season. I wish I would have read these reviews before I hired them to install pavers and a fire pit in my back yard. I got a quote in September 2018 and they did not start the work until a few days before Christmas, after I emailed them asking for a start date. Then they installed the wrong pavers in a large portion of the patio and more than 30 of them were broken or damaged. The foreman said they were supposed to look like that. I contacted the VP (who gave me the quote in September) he came to the house and told me he ordered the wrong pavers. They eventually replaced the broken pavers. My last contact with anyone there was April 9th, I was still waiting for sand to be put over the pavers. Then nothing....for months. Yesterday I got a letter stating I had an outstanding balance and if it was not paid by September 10th they would turn me over to collections/small claims court. I contacted the VP again and he said the job was done but I didn't see anyone put sand down. I am so unhappy with this whole experience. Next month it will be 1 year since I hired them. Hazeltine did my landscaping installation at my new home. They are horrible when it comes to honoring their warranty work. I have been waiting for over two months for my 5 dead palms to be replaced. I've gone up the ladder with people at every level of the organization. I've even left messages for the owner and he never replied to them. The last contact I had with them I told them if I didn't hear back from him within one business day I'd be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I still did not hear anything from them so I filed two days ago. I guess if the owner doesn't care why should the employees. read more

i have been purchasing plants at hazeltine for 5 years, and never have had a problem, plants are looking great and there 5 years old. i recently purchase some perennials and when asked for a receipt i told them i did not need one as there products are excellent. people there are friendly and very helpful at the nursery. i often go there just to walk around and see the beautiful plants. I'd forgotten about their snooty can't be bothered attitude from years ago when dealing with them at my mother's property; also lots of missed appointments, totally undependable, and just plain BAD info. about mother's landscape. Sooo I called them recently about getting a hedge on my property. I GET that they 'don't work for free' but to charge $100 just to show up and discuss a utilitarian hedge is a little much. This isn't rocket science OR the Gardens of Versailles. Also he wanted me to mail (or eml which isn't possible) a copy of my property survey BEFORE even coming out to look at the job. No way. Besides they were so undependable in the past whose to say I'd ever get it back. Glad I was reminded during the initial phone call what they are like. For the life of me can't fathom where the 'attitude' comes from with them but I don't feel like dealing with it; there are enough landscape design firms in Sarasota County and from my experience, they certainly AREN'T the best. read more
