It's charming in its own way, but not the vintage Route 66 ambiance I was expecting. One thing that deserves high praise is the cleanliness. The café is immaculate, from the dining room to the overall presentation, reflecting a team that clearly takes pride in maintaining the restaurant. The food, unfortunately, was less memorable. The oatmeal was overly thick and dry, lacking the creamy comfort you'd expect. Buttered toast carried an off flavor, suggesting the griddle or butter station could use a refresh. The signature pancake, dusted with a powdered sugar "66" logo, was visually appealing and easily the meal's most Instagram-worthy item, but it too was disappointingly dense. Where Cafe 66 truly shines is its service. Every staff member I encountered was warm, welcoming, and eager to help first-time visitors feel at home. Their hospitality left the strongest impression of the visit. In my opinion, Cafe 66 seems to be transitioning away from being a destination built on Route 66 nostalgia and toward becoming a dependable neighborhood café for the Clinton community. There's nothing wrong with that--in fact, it's probably the more sustainable business model. But travelers seeking an authentic trip back in time may leave feeling that the iconic branding promises more nostalgia than the dining experience ultimately delivers.

We had come in to play some pool, get a few beers and of course get some good food. My friends ordered their food and I was playing pool with one of the guys I had come with. This was the 4th game I was playing because I was winning. As I bent over the table, to make a shot, I felt someone's hand slide up my bottom and between my legs. I quickly turned around to see a heavy man, who I had never seen before. I hollered out "Don't fu**ing touch me!!", quite loudly. This man then sat back down with his table of friends. They all started laughing. I put my pool stick down on the pool table and stormed outside. I calmed down after a bit and came back inside. I noticed the creep was still sitting with his friends. I asked the owner, Dave, why he was still at the bar after touching me. Dave told me he talked to that man and he said he "only touched me on the back". The guy playing pool with me saw the whole thing and had told Dave exactly what happened. I told Dave that he did not touch me on the back. At this point Dave had the audacity to tell my other friend that if I didn't calm down I would have to leave since there were kids eating in there. Really....???? We all decided to leav and not cause a scene. We would not lower ourselves to his level!!! After some investigation I found out the POS's name, as a warning to all ladies that want a good steak, but don't want to be sexually assaulted. NIP PAGE!! There cute decor and an actual singing cowboy provided the ambience, and we enjoyed Texas sized servings of ribeye and chicken fingers. The steak was perfect and the chicken fingers raised the bar on what they really should be. They were Gigantic, juicy, crunchy, and served with gravy. I enjoyed the beans I ordered, but wished for mashed potatoes instead, ha ha! The service was quick, professional, and friendly. This place is a real gem for I-40 travelers.

What was really impressive though is how friendly every employee we encountered was. Also super impressive were the young ladies working there, when not busy with customers, they were wiping things down *behind the counter, the drive thru window inside and outside) and just generally keeping the place nice. It has been a long, long time since I've seen this kind of detailed upkeep and busyness by workers in a service business. Great training by the owner and these young ladies will make wonderful employees as they move on to other careers because someone took the time to teach them how to be good employees.... compliments from a hiring manager of many young people who lack this kind of discipline and attention to detail.
