Until recently, I was a regular traveller to Teesside on business. After years of travelling on by…read moretrain GNER, I thought I'd give the bmi service to the (then) Teesside International Airport. Since then, I've become a firm fan. It's closer to Teesside and, being very small (just two gates!), is very easy to use. OK, so the facilities are a bit limited, but it compares well with Darlington station. Although on principle I'd preferred to have used the train (lower carbon emissions), the lousy connections from Darlington to Middlesbrough, coupled with the difference in price, made it a no-brainer. £75 return on bmi compared with over £200 on GNER? The four return flights a day are well timed for business in either direction, too. The only downside is having to use Heathrow at the other end, but then King's Cross during the rebuilding work is hardly pleasant, either. The only thing I don't like is the new name - it's nowhere near Durham, as it implies. Still, that's a minor quibble.
