The Haydn Kino is a original version (English) cinema that is located on Mariahilferstraße. A costumer has the opportunity to call, order online or just buy the tickets at the counter. I would recommend reserving your tickets online and picking them up at least 30 minutes before the film begins. The food counter is a bit pricey for the limited selection, but its a normal cost within the Vienna area. The kino itself is clean and has various size auditoriums for different films. Not a bad place at all. While going to the movies is not my typical form of entertainment, I heard that Deadpool surpassed Star Wars in sales, and wanted to see what movie could surpass Star Wars without generating as much hype!a Descending into the "basement" I was soon met with the familiar smell of popcorn. Speaking of popcorn, compared to the U.S, prices are quite reasonable. I think a small bag (about the size of a U.S. Medium) was only 3 Euro something, compared to the $6 the movie theater in the U.S. charges for a small. I liked that you could choose sweet or salty, but there were no butter dispensing machines. Beverages are also not priced as exorbitantly as in the U.S. ... Area to sit down and eat before the movie was nice, considering they don't let you into the theater until not long before the showing beings. Also, unlike in the U.S., you buy a ticket for a specific seat. That way it is not about who gets into the theater first, but about who buys the tickets first. This is also an excellent way to ensure that if you are with a large group, you can all sit together. Theater itself was clean, with comfortable and spacious seating. Seating was kind of stadium like. The first few rows were flat, and then the following rows started to have an incline. I do have to say that this incline was not as steep as in American theaters (people heads may get in the way a little) HOWEVER, it is not as common for family-owned theaters to have seating like this. Also, there is the nostalgia inducing curtain over the screen, which opens for commercials, and then even wider for the film. When you exit the theater, you go up several flights through some corridors that hold old theater related equipment, like projects and such. However, you exit to the side of the building, into a darker lit, less traveled alleyway. This is Vienna, and therefore very safe, but still a touch unpleasant. read more

Centrally located (Mariahilferstraße) O.V. cinema. Has a slight underground feeling to it and is a little small but the seats are comfortable and nicely tapered to give a great view. Sound is decent too and picture fits the screen. ( Don't laugh, often in O.V. cinemas they don't. ) Prices for concessions are a bit steep but they do have combination offers and the beer is cold. Overall a good experience although the turn over of movies could be a little quicker. read more

One of the big English-language theaters in Vienna, Haydn is well run. Easy access along mariahilfer straße near the U3 Neubaugasse stop makes it a convenient spot for a flick. The seats are very comfortable and the staff are pleasant. You can book specific seats ahead an just pick them up 30 min before your film. If you wan snacks, get there early as the snack at queue is usually lengthy an progresses sluggishly. For those of you into sweet popcorn, they've got you covered. I recently saw Pacific Rim there in 3D and the theater as great! I was in row 8 and not that far from the screen, but the angled seat backs positioned me to comfortable see the screen without neck pain. My only complaint is that the movie (in theater A) was quite loud, though nowhere near as loud as a rock concert. Also, I expected to be chilly inside, but the air conditioning didn't seem to be on, so it got a bit warm by the end of the movie. read more

The Haydn is not great... So perhaps the last time we went was a fluke, but I don't think we'll be returning any time soon to find out. As I mentioned in my first review, the best part about the Haydn is being able to reserve your seats in advance online. You then arrive to the theater 30 minutes before the movie begins to pay for them and pick them up. Last week I did just that: reserved seats online, left my house to get to the theater and pick up the tickets on time, and found the place completely, totally, thoroughly.. packed. I have never seen so many people there; it was probably in violation of some kind of fire code, because there was barely enough room for everyone and it was nearly impossible to move through the lobby. Needless to say, it took quite a while to get to the front of the line (for it to be our turn at the ticket booth). So we give our reservation name and number, pay for and pick up our tickets, and head to the line to the cinemas. Then we notice that our tickets are for row TWO instead of row NINE. Our movie was about to start in 10 minutes. So we head BACK to the long line, wait and wait and wait, and get to the front and ask the guy: 1. Why didn't you give us the tickets we reserved? --Because we didn't get to the theater in time. (Um, yes we did. If we were 5 minutes (tops) late -getting to the ticket booth- it was because of this long line, and that doesn't constitute a reason to give our tickets away.) 2. Why didn't you tell us when we provided our reservation information that we weren't receiving the seats we reserved? --No response. 3. Okay, thanks, we want our money back. *** To their credit (I guess), the Haydn did give us a refund for the tickets. I would not be nearly as irate if they'd just told us that we were "late" and thus our reserved seats had been given away, would we still like tickets to the movie? When people go to buy tickets without having reserved seats, they are given the opportunity to choose their seats at the ticket booth, so I'm not sure why that same courtesy wasn't afforded to us in this situation. And, even if this debacle with the reserved tickets hadn't occurred, we'd still be hesitant to return to the Haydn because of the cluster f--- that was the lobby... I honestly cannot believe how crowded and ridiculous this place has become, especially since they've been renovating it. read more

This is a great English language movie theater. The seating is VERY comfortable. They have a lovely coffee house style area where you can have a drink while waiting for the movie. They also have comfy chairs in the general waiting area. They have historic projectors on display and a collection of historic photographs of fin de siecle Vienna. You can easily reserve tickets online and pick them up at the cinema. This is by far my favorite movie theater in the city. read more

This was an awesome little find! We were killing time all day before our train and decided to pop in for a movie! It was great! The English movie was a breath of fresh air in a city that speaks a language different than our own! But be warned, because I didn't know, you can use card to pay for the movie, but concessions are CASH ONLY. after ordering I had to scoot over to the nearest atm (across the street but still) to get cash to cover it! Unsure why they take cards at the ticket booth but three steps away they don't. That was my only complaint! Concessions is also pretty slow because it is just one lady working it so get there early if you can! A great place to go see an English film! Seats were cozy and the movie was great quality! During my vacation in Vienna, had an itch to go to the movies. One problem, where can I find a contemporary movie theater that would be in English language? With the convenience of the internet, it was made possible. Googled requested english films in Vienna and "English Cinema Haydn" came to the rescue. The theater is underground which is quite cool. It's very clean, fresh popcorn... small auditorium, but big enough to fill a solid capacity crowd. I personally enjoyed it - somewhat of house warming feel to it. If back in Vienna, would definitely go back. Also, saw The Avengers one week before it came out in the US : ) Thank you! read more

My girlfriend and I were enjoying a short week in Vienna during my deployment. We wanted to see a movie and this place popped up close to our hotel on a Yelp search. It was a good experience and even better that the movies were in English. It is slightly more expensive than a normal theater, but what do you expect of an English theater in Vienna!? It is close to outdoor shopping and small restaurants and the underground. Easy to get to and worth it if you just want a piece of home for a couple hours. read more

This place provided a little slice of home when I was saturated with wading through all of the Christmas tourists at the various museums and other Vienna attractions. I saw a movie in one of the larger theaters, which is still fairly intimate. There is some difference in pricing, depending on which movie you're seeing, and also which day you're there. Sunday is the most expensive day, and Monday has the most bargains. read more

This cinema is an absolute gem! I'e been organising my monthly movie nights for the ''Women of Vienna'' group here for more than half a year. I just love it - everything is perfect here! First of all, the fact that they only show movies in their original versions - good for visitors who do not speak any German or who simply prefer to watch movies in their original language - like me! :) Ticket prices are OK, the halls are nice, - there are 4 in total, one of them is very small and feels like from hundred years ago, which is definitely a good thing, because it is elegant and very beautiful. The bigger ones are great, too - with ample space for your legs. I especially like the space next to the snacks bar - it looks like a cafe, such a cafe which you would only find in an old cinema. Actually I have never had anything else but popcorn (the sweet caramel one - which is very good, in contrast to many other cinemas) and drinks, but I think they also have coffee, which is even better. Actually this area next to the bar is the main reason why I love coming here like an hour before the actual movie starts. The only complaint - unfortunately sometimes the staff can be tricky. The older lady behind the snacks bar can be a bit unfriendly, and also some others are not always smiling, but hey - I will still give Haydn 5 stars. I had reserved my tickets. Queued for 25 minutes to find out they had been given them away. In all the cinemas I know they call the number to make sure that the person who had reserved is not queuing. Very disappointing! read more
