The Artis has become my favorite English cinema in Vienna (so far) Intimate cinema, slightly stuck in the past with hippy interior. LOVED it! Watched the latest Tarantino in No4, fell into propper movie chairs (probably velvety bordeaux, was dark, but thats my guess) and enjoyed the 22.15 screening to the fullest. Also, they do get to the main part almost straight away, meaning: not too many pre-views or adverts shown! Popcorn ( xxl) and the mega master soft drink for around 8€, okay-ish priced, they also do Ladies and Men night which I have to investigate further more soon. read more

I love the fact that from the outside you would never know it was a cinema. It is hidden from the main street in a cobbled courtyard surrounded by equally beautiful buildings. The best thing is of course that all films are in original version (no subtitles in German that I try to read and end up missing half of the film!). For those who are used to big, modern cinemas in the UK and US you may get a shock coming here...It appears to have never had a make over since it was opened. But looks aren't everything. Big, old, comfy chairs are everything. And Artis delivers. Ohhhh yeah! The screens are smaller than what I am used to in the UK but we are talking about a cinema built into a city centre building, space is obviously an issue. The fact that they managed to fit 6 screens in here is impressive! Snacks and drinks are slightly over priced but in what cinema aren't they?! They do deals on drinks and popcorn/sweets too which are good for sharing. There is a bar for alcohol as well should you feel the need! Staff speak English and German and are always friendly and helpful in my experience! read more

This is a lovely centrally located OV cinema with 6 screens. From the outside it looks like any other of the beautiful building of the Jewish Quarter but inside it has been completely converted into a high tech cinema complex with 6 screens and a fairly spaced bar area. What a pleasure to come in from a snowy night into the welcome warmth of a popcorn smelling lobby. Inside it has been designed to look like a movie theatre of old with marbled floors and posters everywhere. The staff are all very friendly and seem to really enjoy their jobs. Popcorn is fresh and warm. Lovely touch that instantly took me back was when the movie was about to start, the light behind the screen number begins to flash. Wow, what a great touch. Reminds me of going to the movies with my grandparents back in the 80s. And now to the theatre... We walked in and immediately I noticed the curved screen. Any thoughts that I was back in the 80s or 90s swiftly disappeared as in here it is definitely 2013. Fantastic surround sound, comfortable large seats and an amazingly crisp picture on the big screen. Awesome! So why not five stars you say, we'll there are a few minor negatives. 1. The seats are not well tapered enough. The first 4 or 5 rows are all on the same level and further back they are slightly to shallow if you get someone with a fat head in front of you! 2. The theatre that we were in was quite small. We were at the first days screening of the new Tarrantino film so either they don't have any large theatres (possible in the centre of town) or they put us in one of the smaller rooms (why I don't know) but I will certainly be back to report on the other theatres. 3. Toilets were filthy with paper towels overflowing the very large bins. Not so serious but it's the little touches. So overall a very nice experience and I will be more than happy to update this review in the near future. read more

Not a bad place. I believe they also do ladies nights on Thursdays which includes champagne and m&m's with your ticket (which was 7 euros). Really a good deal and not a bad place to hang out on a Thursday. read more

If you want to see film in their English original version and stay in Vienna long enough you'll sooner or later visit this place. Together with the Haydn cinemas and a few smaller ones playing niche films mostly (Burg and Votiv come to mind) this is the place to go for films in their original language. The highlight here is cinema 1 which has a balcony giving you the perfect place to watch. The downside is that the smaller cinemas aren't amazing. On the other hand they're not terrible and you wont notice during the film. read more

I've been here twice, and I can't really recommend it. The chairs aren't elevated at all, so do NOT get seats within the first 5-6 rows, you will have a sore neck. The screen sizes are tiny, seats are tight and not so comfortable after 2 hours, they barely have any leg space, which means you'll have to stand up whenever someone wants to pass. So go pee before the movie, and don't drink too much! There are no cup holders in the seats. The audio quality is below standard, definitely not crystal clear which can make it hard to understand everything. Bass doesn't go deep. In conclusion, I'd say this cinema may have been acceptable 20 years ago, but in today's standard, it really needs some renovations and investments in better screens/audio. read more

Too pricy Thursday to Sundays...go Mondays to Wednesday for cheaper admission. They play some movies in English, though if its a bit older, it plays in a much smaller theater with a much smaller screen making it not really worth it. There are always people's heads in the way no matter the theater because the seats are not elevated up as much like in the US. If your desperate for a movie, try it...otherwise save money and wait until it comes out! read more

The cinema itself has multiple screening rooms and a moderate size goodies section for those wishing to buy a drink and popcorn. Don't expect the big US selection of hotdogs and pickles, but they do have a handful of candies to choose from. The prices are moderate and the location is perfect for those wanting to continue on into the city for a drink or dinner. read more

The Artis is a small theater in the 1st district that runs films in original languages. I don't mind small theaters, but the screen is a bit too small here and on the night I went, the sound seemed to be turned a little too low. I could hear the girl a few seats away from me chewing her snack, gross. Upon entry no one was at the door to take tickets and we were promptly hurried out since the film prior wasn't over yet, but the door was open and lights were on. And to top the visit off, at the end of the film, no one turned on the lights for us to leave safely. The aisles were not lit and the steps only have a white stripe on them. We were in #4 and I don't know if all the rooms are like that, but I am not a fan. I'll stick to the Haydn as always. read more

The Artis is always great to watch movies in English. There is only one thing i can complain about, which is they make SHIT coffee there. However it is not a real coffee shop so this is to be expected. If you go to watch a movie then you will love it. read more
