The trail is beautiful, and easy for anyone (except a wheelchair, sorry) I have a bad knee with limited mobility, and this was doable for me! I'm so glad we made it out there today. The waterfall was at full force, and was so gorgeous. The little landing area at the bottom was full of downed trees, but the kids were having so much fun climbing and navigating. There were people flitting about in every which way, miniaturized by the big waterfall. The bridge was washed out, looking to be repaired, so I think one access from the loop was cut off. But people were navigating over the downed trees and on rocks. Nobody seemed to care. It was a blast! HIGHLY recommend this trail.

If you're looking for an easygoing, very accessible way to go hiking and get some fresh air while wandering Maine's woods, take in the changing leaves of autumn or the abundance of blossoms and wildflowers in the spring, Bradbury - located just thirty minutes from Portland - is hard to beat. According to their website, Bradbury Mountain State Park was one of the original five state parks in the state of Maine, acquired by the Federal government in 1939. The mountain is open year round from 9am until sunset and offers a variety of hiking trails that range from very, very easy ("wide gradual ascents", "well packed and fairly flat") to slightly more challenging ("steepest ascent, but not difficult to hike", "areas with sharp turns"), from .2 miles to 1.5 miles (or more if you want to build your own adventure here - which is very easy to do because this state park's trails are now abundantly well marked; expect lots of maps throughout to let you know where you are AND lots of wooden signs pointing you in the right direction). You could easily do it all in one half day or break up your walk and come back another time, especially considering it's an easy, convenient mountain with an elevation of just 485 feet. Dogs are allowed on leashes, horses are allowed on certain trails. There are bathrooms. You can check out an old cattle pound. Explore for geocaches. It's a cute little mountain, and I'm so happy it's right in (proverbial) our backyard.

It's only about 1.5 miles long and runs parallel to Forest Ave and the train tracks. It starts at Wall St and runs to Milliken St on the Riverside Industrial Pkwy. The trail is pretty well maintained for the most part but there is a section at the Milliken St end where it's basically a narrow, overgrown path. If you're lucky, there might be a train going by because you can walk right up to the tracks or just watch from the trail.

I highly recommend the use of orange blaze colors, you just never know who is out there. Parking is typically plentiful, unless there's a baseball game happening or Saturday's farmers market.

There's something for everyone. What I'm reviewing is how a spot compares to similar outdoor spots in my personal opinion. Being in nature - and remembering to carry in, carry out - is always five stars! *** Parking? Yes. Loop trail? Yes. Well marked signs? Yes. The entrance to the Cumberland Town Forest can be found on the left hand side of the Town Hall on Tuttle Rd. It's a wide, mostly flat trail (some exposed roots, but not that many) - perfect for walking your dog, if you've got small children, or if you're pushing a stroller - through a nearly 100 acre forest. According to the information kiosk at the trailhead, it was donated to the town of Cumberland by Elizabeth Drowne in 1891; most of the present tree cover is the result of planting in the 1920's/30's by Ernest A Rand (a dedicated conservationist and for whom the trail is named after). The trail is about two miles, and there's currently a shorter path featuring a Story Brook Forest area (laminated pages from a children's book attached to displays). I appreciated the plethora of signage near various flora. I liked being able to identify/learn that Red Maples and Canada Mayflowers were okay to be there, but Vinca and Lily of The Valley's are apparently invasive species, for example. Unfortunately, despite searching for it, I didn't see any Butterfly Garden or Vernal Pool. Maybe my expectations were too big or maybe it was just overgrown because I came during the height of summer; also, again maybe because I came in August, there were no little streams where there should have been either. Everything was completely dried up. This is a local's spot. A place where people who live very nearby come to walk in the woods. Honestly, it's not a place you need to necessarily seek out, but I appreciated the fresh air!

I got here through the Oak Nuts Park trailhead, but you can get in from a number of other inlets as well. The forest trail leads straight to and along the river and following the Presumpscot River Trail takes you to the "falls". They're more like rapids but it's amusing to see the warning for the waterfall ahead for kayakers. The rapids are actually really mesmerizing and offer a nice prize for a light stroll through the woods. Like a lot of Portland Trails, the trail weaves through private land so city life is just in the distance -- you typically can see a house around 80% of the time you're in the trail, and it can get noisier towards the river, but it theres still plenty of fresh air. Oak Nuts Park trailhead offers just street parking but the road isn't too busy. Nicely maintained and a good 1.5 to 3 mile hike depending on how far you want to go.

This is a lovely state park with stunning views of the coastline and opportunity to scramble along…read morerocks at the water's edge. Although it does not have a beach, Two Lights State Park was a fun place to explore for our family. It has clean restroom facilities and picnic tables if you want to enjoy lunch. Away from the coastline, the park also has a wooded trail that provides respite from the sun. The only downside is that NO lighthouses are visible within the park. Instead, you'll have to turn right just outside the park and drive about a half-mile toward a seafood restaurant and tiny beach. However, the view of the lighthouse is partially obstructed by a mega-mansion under construction. That said, we managed to capture a photo of the famous lighthouse (from the Edward Hopper painting) by going up a private street (Two Lights Terrace) for a quick photo. It's unfortunate the state park did not acquire the land where the restaurant is located and block the construction of private housing.

This particular park is a bit deceiving in that the name two lights might make you think you are going to see 2 lights, there is only one on the mainland, and the other is 17 miles out to sea. But who really cares when the park gives you the amazing views that it does! The trails wind on the upper cliffs of the shoreline and provide an awesome view of Casco Bay and the ocean. Along the walking trails are benches and picnic tables where you can take pause and be at one with the ocean. The views of the crashing waves and the rocky shoreline are amazing!
