Ash is an amazing surf instructor. I called him last minute as I had an 8hr layover and wanted to get some surfing in. He was flexible and kind enough to fit me into his schedule within the next hour. He prepared three boards for me to use. Ash taught me things that I didn't even know, despite having surfed many times for many years. For example Ash taught me how to line myself up with a marker on the land, taught me how to paddle more efficiently, and how to turn in the water. Things that I didn't even know I could be doing better. Before even getting into the water, Ash was teaching me things to look at and watch out for from observing the ocean. Had the time of my life doing a 2hr 1-on-1 with Josh up at the North Shore! I was a touch nervous about whether or not two hours was too much or too little time but it was just perfect. Once the basics were gone over on land it was active practice in the water - out of the way of other Surfers so we got to go at my own pace. What was awesome about Josh was that he also shared so much about his learning experience with the sport and used it as a tool to help me better understand the steps I'll need to take to further myself in it as well. He also shared so much about etiquette and recommended gear to purchase if I wanted to pursue in the future. Ash's surf school is by far the best class I've ever taken! I've had 4 classes before from a different program and I wasn't able to stand up at all after 2 hours of trying. My instructor for the day was Jason and he was so helpful! After a quick demo on the sand, I was able to stand up on the board after my first attempt! My sister and I even attempted our first trick on the board towards the end of our class because we were learning so much. My husband and I live on the North Shore, and we are solid beginners but really want to be able to rip over the next couple years. I was searching for Surf camps for my 8 year old. I signed up for the 3 session Kids Camp. Very easy to schedule and got confirmation right away. My son loved his first session with Josh. By the time he went to the 2nd session, we knew we were signing him up for the additional 5 sessions. He clicked with his instructor and we were impressed with his progression. Josh is constantly looking at the surrounding surfers and making sure our son didn't get hit by others or run into others. Ash the owner is an awesome guy! We have family that lives in the area and they specifically recommended this company for a family lesson. It was the one of the highlights of our trip. Despite a high-surf advisory and a busy morning - Ash and his crew delivered an amazing time. No matter what company you go with - you'll ride a wave - but the difference here is Ash and his crew really take the time to ensure you have the best time possible. Our son is autistic and easily frustrated and we were a bit nervous on how this would shake out... well we didn't need to worry he rode more waves then we can count and wants a board for his birthday now. Few tips - Super easy to find - look for the van/truck with the company name in the parking lot. Leave your water bottles/towels/everything in your car. They have rash guards if you don't, but be sure you wear a long sleeve with lots of sunscreen. Don't bring anything but cheapy slides for your feet and a positive attitude - it is all you'll need. You have a few minutes on the beach to get the basics, but you are in the water surfing for 99% of the lesson. We didn't get any photos - and to me, that's just fine because you can't really capture how great it is to surf with these locals in a photo. read more

I've done two lessons with this company and had the pleasure of having Josh as my instructor both times. I had a blast and came on a bigger swell the first time. Josh put me on larger waves and put me right in the spot to catch as many as possible. My girlfriend came the second time and had a really good time with him as well. This is my second year having Ash teach my wife and myself. Since that first year I have been surfing in Socal all year long. So it was great for us to come back and do a 3 day 2 hour each day lesson with him. His approach is very intuitive and calming. Ash took us to our first spot we went to last year near Kahuku and we were up and riding like nothing. He was tough on me, which he needed to be, for me to break some old habits. And those habits were broken with his help. Because on our last day he challenged us and had us go to Freddy land (an intermediate break). In no time we were dropping into waves in the 4-6 foot range. All in all Ash's approach is very much about the entire experience. Reading waves, paddling to the right spot, getting on the right board, knowing when to stand up and where to carve. He is basically teaching you the right way. Company lost our booking and wouldn't answer our calls, finally called us back 15 minutes after our booking was supposed to start and said they didn't know anyone else was booked for the day, extremely unprofessional. Eventually they sent someone out to give us our lessons 30 minutes late. Luckily they honored the 90 minutes but we were almost out nearly $200.
