Just an amazing place. It was like walking back in time! This place out of all the places I…read morevisited made the trip worth it. The tour guides knew everything about the owners and history of the home. It gave a lot of insight on the time period when the home was build. The best part was five bucks gets you a very personal tour. This was one of the best tours I've been on. Worth a visit if our in the area and definitely worth a visit if your passing through.

I was in Texarkana in December for work at the same time that we had our short government shut down…read moreso I had a day we had to kill before the defense budget was passed and we got back to work the next day. I found this house on Yelp's things to do search...it was slim pickins for sure. I rounded up four other coworkers to go as well. We couldn't take pics inside so I just have the exterior. It's been a few months so I don't totally recall the history but I think that the original owner was the only lawyer in town. His wife would fly to Neiman Marcus in Dallas twice a year to shop. The photos of the shoes that are on yelp from the business owner are just a small snapshot of all the shoes. There were so many that were cute by today's standards. I loved looking at the shoes. The house was made so that all rooms were an octagon, I think I recall the reasoning was because you get the most light that way. But again...I could be butchering this story. The house had many rooms and a lot of detail. The family donated it to the city as a museum and left a lot of the decor and just took stuff that was sentimental. I think a nephew still lives in town. The house and the grounds definitely needed TLC and preservation. But that costs money and I don't think they're raking in the dough. When we got to work the next day I told one of the dudes that lives in Texarkana that we went there and he knew all about it and mentioned the wife flying to Dallas for shopping lol. So...long story short...if you're in the area and looking for something to do I think this is a great choice. It's cute and informational and supports the community.

One of the first stops my daughters and I made during our first ever visit to the Natural State was…read morethe Arkansas Welcome Center in Texarkana. It was fairly hot on July 19, 2025. I hustled our dog to the cooler grass which unknowingly to me was supposed to be pet-free. (Where we parked there were no similar signs so that was confusing.) We didn't go inside the visitor center because dogs were not allowed. My oldest went to use the restroom and walked straight back out declaring, "There are way too many old ladies waiting in a line. We can just go, Mom. I can wait." Lol. This place makes for a nice photo with the large "Arkansas: The Natural State" sign out front. Easy access for all size vehicles exiting and entering back onto the eastbound Interstate 30.

I stopped at this welcome center on my way to hot springs over the Juneteen holiday…read more There were plenty of parking and they look to have plenty of street lights (i visited during the day so could not tell if they work). There were lots of brochure and maps available for people visiting the state. The real gem at this welcome center was the staff behind the counter. This lady asked me where I was going and what I had brought me to the state. I told her my plans were go to hiking in hot springs and just go with the flow. Yall she brought me everything that had to do with hot springs, hiking in the nearby area and she gave me some cool "hiking in Arkansas" sticker that were only given out to hikers! I felt so welcome by her and that friendly hospitality was the same by everyone I encounter during my trip to Arkansas. The bathrooms were clean and pretty empty when I visited however, they could use an upgrade and the lighting could be better. Overall good bathrooms. There were some vending machines and picnic tables outside but did not stop to hang out since I had to get back on the road. The "natural state" not only had beautiful hiking trails but it also had some many people with beautiful souls. I will for sure be back in the future.

We wanted to show the kid Caddo lake so we drove from Dallas to do a tour with Captain Ron…read more Ron is a down home friendly guy who obviously loves people, his job, and Caddo lake. During the 90 minute boat tour, he was enthusiastic and passionate about the lake. He really seemed to enjoy sharing his immense knowledge the lake, both real and legend. I learned a lot and he made the tour very interesting. The day we went it was a bit chilly and overcast. It had just rained so the lake water was muddy, and therefore we did not see much wildlife, just a busy beaver and some blue herons. You can go during the summer when the water is clearer and see turtles and dragon flies. During the summer, the climate is much hotter and humid and there is little air flow on the lake, so be prepared to sweat. Cool and overcast actually was preferable IMO. The wife and I had toured the lake about a decade ago and we left from the northern part of the lake. Our opinion is that despite the fact that Captain Ron did a great job, the northern part of the lake is more interesting than the southern part where Captain Ron is now located.
