Up North Axe & Tap - Axe Throwing Spot

Up North Axe & Tap occupies the former Chili U location. There are entrances from Milwaukee Avenue…read moreand the parking in the back. If you're interested in the axe throwing, enter on Milwaukee Avenue as the restaurant is in back and easier to get to from the rear. You can enter either way. I didn't get a chance to check out the axe throwing part during this visit so I won't discuss it. We met another couple and entered from the parking lot at the rear. When you walk in the vestibule, you can only enter or exit on the left as the right side corner of the restaurant is used for live music. On this occasion there was a singer/guitarist playing when we arrived. The other party was seated already so we made our way to the table. There are a bunch of tables and seats at the bar. And the place was packed. Clearly people knew the singer and were there in support. The speakers were turned up and it was hard to hear the conversation at the table. It's a nice menu and has a lot of options. This would be a good spot for our Burger Club, as there were a few options to choose between. In addition to the burgers, there were other handhelds, some nice looking entrees, salads, and nice starters. I opted for one of their burgers and asked for it medium rare. It was perfectly prepared and was quite delicious. My wife got a salad and added chicken. There was a ton of chicken in it. It looked nice and she said it was good. Our two companions ordered burgers and a chicken sandwich respectively and also commented on how good the food was. Our server was very attentive and was constantly refilling drinks before being asked, asked how we were doing, if the food was to our liking, and cleared up finished plates. By the way, their ranch is a dill ranch and is quite tasty. I'd give five stars, except it was extremely loud and hard to hear.

Axe throwing with more restaurant seating in the back with a bar cute aesthetic. They don't have steak sauce for the steak, but the garlic butter makes up for it. We also tried a couple of their Old Fashioneds, solid variety and really good. Definitely a good experience overall!

Over the railroad tracks and down the street, to Teddy O'Brians we go…read more.. It truly is kind of off the beaten path. This is a place for regulars. Our Burger Club visited on a Thursday night not knowing local artists came for an open mic night. It's a tiny place with tables crammed in at every angle and wherever they could put them. We grabbed a table unbeknownst to us in front of the open mic area. Some of the acts were good and some not so good. And they clearly had a following. One of the more interesting decor choices are the LPs that adorn the walls. Not the records themselves, but the LP jackets and covers. They're on the walls and they looked as if they were placed on the walls when they were first purchased as they were properly aged for their timeframe (classic rock mostly). We all had the burgers (hence the burger club). The burgers and fries were reasonably good. We had also ordered wings as an appetizer to share and they were very good. What surprised me the most was that there was one bartender/server and one cook in the kitchen. That was it and the bartender/server was johnny-on-the-spot. She took our order, served our drinks, checked on us, and repeated the process for all the other tables (all were taken) and all the patrons at the bar. I was amazed at how hard she and the cook worked, despite the number of people, The burgers were okay, the wings were pretty good. But the service was hands down some of the best we had and the venue was welcoming to us outsiders into their open mic wonderland. Go for the food and stay for the atmosphere and terrific service!

Our waitress was phenomenal & gave us the best service we've had in a while. She was consistently checking in to make sure we were doing well & made sure our glasses were always full! I ordered the meatloaf which was delicious. My husband is gluten intolerant and the staff was very knowledgeable on available items for him & helpful with suggestions. He was able to get the 3 meat bbq dish which he reported back was super tasty. The restaurant is clean, beautifully decorated & a really great vibe overall. I would recommend this place to anyone in the area looking for a good bite to eat.

We were taken to a table at the back of the restaurant where we sat waiting for a server. And waited. and waited. Finally, I walked to the host station where 7 staff members were standing and asked if it would be possible for a server to stop by our table. We told the server, who was pleasant and served us well, we needed to turn the table quickly and ordered a drink and dinner immediately. The drink, Whiskey on the rocks arrived soon after and the first thing to notice was it was a fairly small pour. We both ordered the Black and Bleu Burger medium rare with well done crispy fries. The first thing we noticed was that the fries were pretty limp, not well done at all. But no time to send things back. The burger was really really good. the Bacon, onion jam and pickled red onions were a real treat and the bun was toasted, but soft, nice! The burger was cooked to our order and again, very very good. We used the QR code at the table to bring up our bill and found that the small rocks pour was accompanied by a fairly small charge so that helped. We both agreed we'd come back when we had more time to spend, perhaps when there's a game we'd like to see, there are plenty of big screens. Sorry, no pictures on this one, we were in a hurry and jumped right in.
