I went to HATH with the idea of getting individualized care for my son who suffers from chronic eczema. Western medicine has not gotten to the root as an exhausted, overwhelmed first time parents, my husband and I wanted answers. Dorothy Low was personable and did her best, it just wasn't a fit for our family. 1) Sharing my birth story is already some what triggering as I had an emergency C-section due to an infection of my amniotic fluid. After sharing with Ms Low, she assumed I had herpes. One of the reason why I want to veer from traditional medicine is exactly to stray away from assumptions and stigmas/stereotypes. This felt like a micro agression, and not at all trauma informed. 2) without any allergy testing she recommended I stop dairy and try almond mil for my son. I took her expert advice and did just that along with use of her tincture and herb baths. 3) my son's condition worsened days after following instructions and using her products. When I told her she said that was odd bc her tincture and recipe has worked for EVERYBODY. Um, hello... everybody is different! 4) turns out after much diary note taking of my sons food- I got tested by an allergist and my son is allergic to almonds! No wonder, without knowing, his conditioned worsened when I gave him a. Week's worth of almond milk 3x a day. I entered the world of acupuncture and TCM at the recommendation of a friend, who E-mailed Dorothy's information after learning I had waged a 40-hour war against insomnia for the second time in a month. Being un-familiar with any-thing Eastern medicine, I hesitantly called, wondering how an acupuncturist could possibly help with a problem I had been battling since the age of fourteen, and nervous at the thought of a stranger sticking countless needles in my body. Thankfully, Dorothy's friendly telephone manner and laid-back attitude immediately put me at ease. She gave me an appointment straight away and I went in on my day off expecting to walk out with-out any noticeable change or improvement. Imagine my surprise when I walked out of there not only feeling relaxed for the first time in months, but also with a feeling of considerable improvement in my general health -- I had been battling a cold that week and left feeling like I could breathe again ! The initial visit was nearly two-hours long, very thorough, informative and professional. I filled out patient forms, she asked questions, I answered as best as I could and she started the treatment. She was extremely thorough and knowledgeable, and had I known more about acupuncture, I would have listed every other physical ailment I have, instead of revealing them during subsequent visits, be-cause, apparently, acupuncture can aid with more than just problems with insomnia ! :o) She has now worked on my neck and shoulder problems twice, which not only has released a lot of the tension in my muscles, but has given me the freedom to move my neck completely again. Thanks to both my chiropractor and Dorothy, I'm not constantly terrified of my neck popping and causing pain and various other physical problems again. She has also been able to help me attain more feeling in my arm, hand, leg and foot (which were all affected by my neck problems) by using electric stimulation in conjunction with acupuncture. It has only taken two visits to gain more sensation in my extremities, even though I had given up on the idea of ever feeling fully normal again in the future. I also am grateful to Traditional Chinese Medicine, which Dorothy practises, and the ability to modify ingredients to address and benefit each person's individual needs. Not only does Dorothy recommend the herbs, but she also uses her lab to make the pill, powder or liquid form (your choice) of the herbs she prescribes. Every-thing is custom-made by her, which is far more re-assuring than taking medication made for the masses, with no real ability to pick and choose the ingredients one needs. Another huge plus is Dorothy's willingness to quickly E-mail any requested information. I had asked her to provide a list of the herbal pills she had prescribed, and not only did she E-mail the list within a few hours of my request, but she had also translated all the ingredients from Chinese to Latin and included information about the issues the various herbs are meant to address. I read the list and researched a bit on the Internet and felt much better knowing what was going in-to my body and for which reason. I am going in for my fourth treatment this week be-cause, as much as I don't under-stand how she has resolved so many of my health issues, she truly has been able to help. I came in with a carpel tunnel onset and a shoulder reinjury with some other minor health issues. For my shoulder, I've made significantly more progress gaining range of motion back for my shoulder with Dorothy than i've ever had in the last two years which have been very slow in recovery. My recent carpel tunnel issues have reduced significantly since diagnosis a few months ago with pain levels dropping from 8 to 2. If I were to be evaluated for carpel tunnel again by my doctor, I'm positive I would be in the green. I am a mother of a 15 year young lady that has battled severe chronic pain since she was approximately 10 years old. Her pain was so bad in March 2010 that she ended up in the hospital for 9 days trying to manage the pain with narcotics. It was of little help. Dorothy is the BEST!!! I recommend Dorothy to anyone who has anything wrong with them that western medicine has not been able to address. Or anyone who is sick of the one size fits all treatment. I found Dorothy online after trying all the dangerous steroid filled ointments, creams, and meds, which were not helping to reduce my discomfort. I developed eczema and seborrheic dermatitis as an adult on my body a few years ago which got gradually worst. After I had my son the eczema started to spread to my face (lips, eyelids, and everywhere else on my face). When it spread to my face I started doing research and after reading many articles, blogs... I started to suspect food allergies but when I asked my dermatologist and primary care, they both told me that food does not cause dermatitis. I was in a lot of pain, the spots on my face were red, cracking, burning, and very itchy. My eyelids were on fire and I looked like a burn victim. My eyelids were red, cracking, and flaky and so were my lips, and the spots on my body and neck were not any better. On bad days I kept my sunglasses on at work because I didn't want people to stare. I was using about 5 different ointments which most contained steroids several times a day (the label said 2x a day) on my face and body but they did not work. I was finally able to convince my primary care to send me for an allergy test ( the skin test is more conclusive). It turned out that I had allergies to eggs, tuna, corn, oranges, and almost every tree, grass and weed you can think of. But even with this information, my doctors continued to tell me, that my condition is not due to food allergies. SO I decided to do my own experiment. Long story short, when I completely eliminated eggs from my diet my face improved but not %100 percent and the spots on my body were red, flaky, dry and painful. I was emotionally exhausted. I felt depressed and hopeless about my situation. Most people don't think that eczema can be painful but it really is and that's why I felt so tired and depressed. This is when I called Dorothy. I wish I had called her a couple years sooner. It would have saved me a lot of pain and time that I wasted going to doctor appointments. Since I had never tried acupuncture or herbs before, I was very skeptical but after my first conversation with Dorothy I felt at ease and immediately made an appointment to see her. Dorothy was very thorough, she explained what kind of services she offers and asked me to provide her with a detailed health history before my first visit. When I met with Dorothy a few days later I immediately felt at ease. She had reviewed my health history and had a treatment plan which she discussed with me in detail. This would include acupuncture and herbs to help improve my overall health. Everything she told me made perfect sense so I told her that I wanted to start treatment right away. I have to say that her acupuncture treatments are the best. For the first time in a long time , I felt relaxed after the acupuncture treatment. I started using the herbs and a couple of other supplements she gave me immediately and within a few weeks I felt great, the eczema was improving so no more pain, and I had more energy. The thing with Dorothy is that she doesn't just treat symptoms her approach is body and mind. She really looks to see what the underlying issues are and she starts there. She provided me with a list of foods to eliminate from my diet (finally someone who really understood the food and dermatitis connection). At every appointment, Dorothy took her time, she never rushed, she asked a lot of questions and tailored each treatment based on the information I provided. It was not a one size fits all treatment at all. I stopped my herbal treatments because I found out I was pregnant but I plan on continuing with the acupuncture treatments. Additionally, when the eczema and seborrheic dermatitis started to improve, I asked Dorothy for a topical moisturizer for my face. I had stopped using my face cleansers, moisturizers, and eye creams. Since my skin was so sensitive it was impossible to apply anything to my face. She made me a couple of samples to try and after trying the samples for a few days I know that I wanted a full bottle of the stuff. So I asked Dorothy to make more of the herbs to apply to my face. After using it for a week, my skin looked flawless, younger and even. A coworker asked me if I had done Botox and I couldn't stop laughing because it was not Botox at all, it was Dorothy's topical herbal moisturizer. Let me tell you that I love this moisturizer!!! I am thrilled to have met Dorothy a few months ago, after a friend of mine highly recommended her to me. I've had an eye condition called blepharitis for years, and spent the last year working with a dedicated ophthalmologist who gave me eye drops, eye washes, antibiotics, and diet recommendations. Unfortunately, none of these treatments helped even a little bit. Dorothy immediately put me at ease when she said she had treated many people with this condition, and that if it didn't heal quickly with the treatment she recommended, she would change her approach. After a week of drinking a tincture she made, and putting compresses on my eyes daily (made from herbs), as well as two acupuncture sessions, my condition was 90% improved. I developed bursitis in my right shoulder a few months ago. At first, it only bothered me at night, waking me up as I slept. Then it hurt when I jogged. Then it began to hurt off and on throughout the day, making my hand numb. It was difficult to raise my arm, or do things that required stretching, such as putting on a long-sleeve shirt. Taking ibuprofen every few hours round the clock was not an option because the pain persisted for weeks.
