So I really dropped the ball with this review. I usually start with a bunch of photos, but I was too preoccupied with taking in the charming ambiance, the veteran-created art pieces, the photos and stories all around honoring the legacy of the heroes who have served their nation, and getting to meet the interesting people inside. I realize the tiny structure is perfect for what this place is all about - honoring the stories each of us holds through connection and community. The coffee was smooth and flavorful, possibly the best drip coffee I've ever had (and I have had some really good coffee!) and I'm told by my wife that the chai was absolutely delightful. A small menu of drinks and treats may make this spot slip off of your radar - but you would be missing out on a magical little place that, as the name implies, truly has heart... and plenty of it. read more

Must check out! Grateful to have discovered on Yelp! I don't explore downtown often, and was looking for a nearby coffee shop to work at in the morning (saw in pics there were many outlets available). I love all of the natural light, music (Jack Johnson when I was there), and overall vibes. Enjoyed the pour over coffee (takes time) and they had almond milk I could add on request. Has Heart Coffee Shop celebrates veterans and their stories. Their goal is to make sure every vet never has to pay for coffee. Barista and volunteer were very friendly, helpful and kind. As a non-coffee drinker, I was impressed with the variety of beverages and asked for a London Fog iced. It was so delicious with coconut milk, per my request! There is a nice assortment of gifts being sold to support this nonprofit. The cards were beautiful especially reading the back story of the vet who worked with the artist to create them. They also have soft serve custard! I plan to go back later today to try that! Everyone was so welcoming. There is a nice seating area inside or outside and a memorial park right behind it. A must visit place for anyone in downtown Grand Rapids! read more

Cute little coffee shop right across from the children's museum. A veteran greeted us at the door and chatted with my toddler about the Purple Heart memorial. That had a large selection of specialty syrups as well as reasonably priced pastries. I really enjoyed my iced lavender latte. We had a stroller in tow because we were going to the museum afterwards, but I wouldn't recommend bringing one inside if you can help it! read more

I don't know why it took me so long to go to Has Heart, as they are conveniently located down town! This coffee shop is owned by some cool people who love their community. My first visit was with a local run group who partnered with Has Heart. Their regular hours are 8am-4pm, but they opened early for the run group at 6am! If that doesn't show community involvement I don't know what will. Ha! Coffee is fresh and tasty. Obviously the service was wonderful; they did an exceptionally good job making sure everyone in our large group was taken care of. Over all 5/5 stars! read more

I don't think I could rate a non-profit like this any less than 5 stars. According to what I've read online, HAS HEART originated as a non-profit that partnered a designer with a veteran to create apparel to portray a message. This morphed into an idea of a coffee shop, as these partnerships often began over a cup of coffee. They took a historic building in the heart of the city at Veteran's Park and turned it into a cute coffee shop. Their hours are a bit limited, but Nate and I finally got a chance to stop by recently. There's some street parking available around the area, or I believe the parking lot at the library can be used. We got lucky with a street spot. The shop itself is cozy and not that big inside but brightly lit and welcoming. I loved the comfy seating and interesting shadowbox tables showcasing sketches and creative art. They have apparel for sale too. Drink prices are typical for the area and I enjoyed my vanilla oat milk latte. They have a program where you can donate to an ongoing gift card so no veterans ever have to pay for their own coffee. The spirit of community and connection is clear here and I love the concept. read more

This is a great spot to grab coffee if you're in the area. We stopped by because we were visiting the children's museum. The baristas were friendly and happy to tell us the story of Has Heart. I love that it's a veteran company (and roughly half their staff are veterans). My cafe miel with oat milk was good, and my toddler loved the little hot chocolate they made him. The staff was super kid-friendly. And there was lots of cool merchandise to check out. We'll be back! read more

OMG of all the coffee shops in all the on-site locations I've visited on business trips, this one was really something special. Such a cute set up, and love, love, love the concept of the non-profit and supporting veterans. It's small, so a little crowded on the inside, but I was able to get a seat and do some editing to my presentation for the conference with a lovely cup of tea. Staff was super friendly as well. I'm sad I was only able to manage to work in one visit to this place - if I lived in Grand Rapids and worked downtown in this area, I'd easily be a regular here. read more

Cozily set in between the children's museum and Park Church, sits a warm coffee shop with a cause. We are passionate about supporting businesses that pour back into the Grand Rapids community and this place will most certainly make an impact on this city. The hot chocolate is perfectly balanced with a decadent chocolate flavor and the right level of sweetness. We also ordered a tea latte which isn't on the menu but is the best one we have had in Grand Rapids to date. You can tell there is a skill and passion here that sets this place above the rest. Great little coffee shop that's located in the tiny building right across from the Children's Museum. Stopped by here after the museum and got a Chai Latte while the husbad got a Cortado. Prices are on par with other coffee shops in the area - looks like they use Madcap Coffee beans. Owners were very friendly! Hours are limited right now (I believe they close by 2pm on most days?), but it's a great place to stop by if you're downtown in the mornings! read more

I've never walked into a business and felt an instant connection but I sure did today! As an Army wife, I have been to lots of military based businesses and support all that I can but never have I felt so at home as I did here! The location is perfect right near the children's museum and library which I frequent often with my daughter. There is a ramp through the back entrance so you don't have to pick up the stroller like we did lol. Once you walk in, you see all of the beautiful pictures and can read about the story behind the business and the art. To pair vets with artists to bring their pain, happiness, loneliness, joy and all other emotions to life is an amazing concept and beautiful to see. I felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude looking around and learning. We did have lattes which were amazing, one lavender and one mocha 10/10. We also purchased some shirts and plan to support more from their online store. And despite our protest (because we were there to support them) the amazing staff gave us a discount since my husband is a solider stating "no matter what, you deserve the discount for all you do". We could have stayed there for hours just chatting with the staff and learning as we browsed. There are many businesses who claim to support our vets and provide for them however this is the real deal! I can't wait to return and would love to figure out a way to work with them in the future. The service is good, and they sometimes offer pastries and other sweet treats for purchase. Service is good, and conversations are enlightening and friendly. Oh my goodness! My new must visit shop! Folks, if you e heard about HAS HEART at Veterans Park downtown, but haven't made it there yet, Do. It. Yes, it is a coffee shop. Yes, it serves MadCap coffee (yum-o). . But it is So. Much. More. . What I learned today is this: people need healing. Healing comes in many forms. The two owners came together to do just that. One, a Military Veteran (thank you, sir), and one an artist, began an adventure to create this welcoming space on Sheldon across from the Children's Museum, and kitty corner from the Library. Through art, community and service, grew this coffee shop as a place to be heard, a place that focuses on giving back, a way to heal through art, and a place to be welcomed. . The staff was amazing, knowledgeable, and so kind. The Cafe Miel I ordered was spot on, and the barista even confirmed whole milk was ok instead of assuming (winning!).
