I used to think this place was alright. I went there today and took several items. When the guy…read morehanded me the receipt, I noticed they were only paying 6 cents a pound for the steel. I stopped him and said "wait, for that price, just put the stuff back in my truck!" Every other scrap yard is paying 9 cents a pound right now. He told ne they would match other peoples prices. Doesn't matter though. Them trying to pay me that much less than the going rate is a sign of their business practices. Should I have to check the receipt every time? Should I have to look up what the netao markets are at every time before I go there? Isn't it their job to know what the market is at? They may be good for taking cans to them, but as a scrap yard in general, they're absolutley terrible. Pathetic really. If I could give 5 negative stars I would. I will never be back to this cheat you if you're not paying close attention kind of scrap yard again. I suggest noone else make the mistake of going here either. There's plenty of scrap yards within a quarter mile of this one, that aren't looking to short change customers. Companies like this remind me of the people you just want to stay away from in society.

Response time was excellent and they surprised me by saying they could text me photos. I'm two hours away and wanted to go in person. It took me about a month to be able to take a day to go on this mission. I met Rich and Doug, looked at a few cars, made a list and left them to get them off multiple cars. They called me a couple hours later. I found more than I wanted. I bought more than I planned. It was definitely worth the trip and all the staff were EXCELLENT. You never know how you'll do with new businesses and Covid has affected some people to the point of crazy. It was great to find people healthy, sane and ready to be part of my little inspired project. As you can see in my photos finding a parts car in my color needed some divine intervention. I help others on their dreams and inspired projects. This time it was my turn to be surprised. It was a phenomenal day at Catalina!

Even after doing a walk…read morethrough to estimate the amount of 'loads' needed to take the junk, they had to come back the next day to take another 'half load', adding another $300 to the total. When they did, they mistakenly took a piece of property worth nearly $300 that I explicitly told them not to take. While they offered to refund me the price of the item, they then questioned my honesty in how much it was worth. I would not recommend this company to anyone who does not want to be ripped off and inadvertently called a liar. Receipt for proof of patronage.

This is my preferred recycling center as you get a fair return. I take my aluminum cans here…read more Currently the price is $0.50/pound. The business recently relocated to 3225 E 36th Street in early December 2025. This location is bigger and makes it easier to get in and out of, especially for larger vehicles. For cans, simply drive up to the "Small Scale" in the corner and the employees will take your bags of cans and weigh them for you. You then get a chit which you take back to the office and then take the receipt with the QR code to the ATM for your money. So it's a three step process. I've been going to Desert Metals now for ten years and have always been treated well. When the ATM machine doesn't work, an employee will help me out. While this location is bigger, the ground is dirt. Heavy rains on New Years Day made the ground rather muddy when I got out to unpack my bags. The mud is my only complaint about this new location.

They called and schedule a time to come out, technician comes to the door on the phone with someone else (very unprofessional). I show him the ice maker which hadn't been working properly for several months. He says "there's ice stuck in there thats why it's not working". I say I know Captain Obvious thats why I called for it to be repaired. I explained to him the issues i was having and he doesn't even look at the ice maker and says we will order a new one. It takes a week and a half with no response and I have to call them for an update. Miraculously they say the picked up the new ice maker that day. I schedule a time for them to come out and the technician installs it and says it should make ice in about 3 hours....no luck doesn't work. I leave 4 text messages to the owner with no response. I finally call him and he says he will call me back to schedule a time to come look at it. 2 days later no response so i call him and he says "he's trying but they are really busy". Still no definite time given they will come to look at it. This goes on for several more days. I finally call warranty company to complain and they put in another claim...i confirm with the owner that they got the new claim and he would call to schedule an appointment. 3 more days pass and no communication. I called warranty company again and they reach the owner and he lies to them and tells them he "texted me but i never responded". I have since transferred the claim to another contractor. This company is beyond amateur hour. Zero organization and communication skills. If you like waiting for several days to get a response for subpar work they are the number 1 company to call!
