We went back recently, visiting the campus and trying to do an event here that would have benefited the students. The staff wasn't interested, jumped to say "No", before thinking, considering, trying to make things work. It would have been more workload for them, so they don't put students first. And treat Alumni like crap, not like family. The only upside is the campus, very pretty, beautiful buildings, nice beach. A few subway stops alongside the campus. Although construction at the main dorms, so harder to navigate. Newer buildings not so great, kind of a sore spot for the eye! Very, very mixed feelings!

We also had a memorable moment when a professor kindly let us inside one of the buildings. It wasn't something we expected, but it gave us a glimpse into the community and generosity that can make a place feel welcoming rather than intimidating. Even if you're not a prospective student, MIT is worth visiting for the architecture, history, and sense of innovation that seems to be woven into the campus. For our daughter, it was inspiring. I was a student at Berklee a few years ago. It was like how I imagined Harry Potter would have…read morefelt when he got to Hogwarts and realized that there are other people out there like him. I was no longer the music geek, I was another one of the music geeks that was good enough to get into Berklee. This school is excellent for connecting with other musicians. I found that majoring in the more technical majors is more helpful for finding a job later on after graduation. I would not suggest majoring in music performance unless it is a double major. The school does not help you necessarily become better at your craft, it gives you the opportunities to become better. I have seen people graduate that now work at Starbucks, urban outfitters, and various retail stores on the area. I have also seen dropouts win Grammys and be in apple commercials a few short years after dropping out. You can take the opportunities that this environment gives you and take it wherever you want. I currently have a YouTube channel (Jasmin Silva Universe) which I produce and edit videos with my music and my friends music as backing tracks. I studied mp&e at Berklee before dropping out. You are considered an alumni if you complete 1 semester at this institution. This is mainly because most of the people that are now famous never graduated, the main one is John mayor whom I have heard skipped class all the time and was not the best student during his 2 semesters, because rumor has it that while he skipped classes he was writing his first album with his dorm mates. You also have the luxury of being able to go back to Berklee at almost anytime to take more classes. I know someone who tours with a major artist as a conga player and has been in and out of Berklee for nearly a decade. He simply leaves when there is a tour. Also artists like Wyclef who are already established take classes at Berklee which can be an interesting experience. If you can get in, GO and don't take any of it for granted. If you work your butt off you can go anywhere with the connections you will make here. But only if you make the most of it.

A 3-Year Administrative Failure: 63 Credits, 4.0 GPA, and No Degree…read more This school is a SCAM. BEWARE. I am writing this to provide a factual account of my experience in the Dual Degree Graduate Expressive Therapies program (Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Music Therapy) at Lesley University. I moved from Los Angeles to Boston specifically for this program. Despite maintaining a 4.0+ GPA over three years, completing my thesis, and finishing 63 graduate credits, I was left without a degree due to what I can only describe as a total lack of administrative accountability. The Learning Environment While Lesley preaches tolerance and inclusion, the physical and social reality is quite different. Graduate classes are held on the fourth floor of a dilapidated old mall. The facility is poorly maintained, the elevators are frequently delayed for 10+ minutes, and the environment is often unsanitary. As a student with a professional background in the music industry, I felt immediate friction; if you do not fit a very specific "stereotypical" mold, you are marked as an outsider by the faculty and cohort. The Second Internship: 2Life Communities (Framingham) During my third year, I was placed at 2Life Communities under supervisor Jennifer Rich. * The Commute: Despite my transparency about my location, I was forced into a commute that took 2 hours each morning and 3 to 4 hours each evening--a 5-to-8 hour daily round trip. * The Work: Though this was a clinical internship, I was frequently utilized as unpaid kitchen staff, a waiter, and a busboy. * Performance: Despite the conditions, I led over 100 groups. I was told by residents that my music therapy sessions were the highlight of their week. I passed my fall evaluation (Val) with a 4/5, meeting the first of two criteria required to pass the internship. The Administrative Error (Chris Yang) The primary failure lies with the Field Training Office. My advisor, Chris Yang, realized halfway through my final year that the supervisor the school had vetted and assigned to me did not actually hold the required MT-BC credentials. * I had spent the semester doing the work of an on-site supervisor named Wendy--who only appeared twice--essentially teaching for her while she was presumably paid. * I held a 100/100 (A+) in my Clinical Supervision class. Between the 100% grade and the passing fall evaluation, I had met all criteria to move toward graduation. The "PIP" and The F's Instead of the university taking responsibility for their vetting error, they issued me a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) the day before winter break. The PIP was triggered because I refused a request to drive an additional 1.5 hours (on top of my 2-hour morning commute) to a different facility to cover their staffing shortages. While at the site, I contracted COVID three times and a severe flu due to the unsanitary conditions. Because I was ill during the PIP period, the school claimed I "failed" to complete it. * The Result: Two months before graduation, they flunked me out of my internship. They gave me zero credit for 8 months of work. * The Transcript: Despite my 100% grade in the class and a completed thesis, they placed two F's on my transcript. * The "Requirement": They demanded I write seven essays "taking accountability" for their administrative errors and my "defensiveness" before I could return. When I eventually reapplied, they rejected me. Conclusion I am a University of Miami alumnus and a seasoned professional who worked my tail off for this program. I am now left with 63 credits of debt and no degree while the rest of my cohort moves into their careers. Lesley University chose to protect its administration rather than support a student who met every academic and clinical requirement. If you value your time, money, and career, look elsewhere.

Prior to entering…read moreHarvard Medical I was a student at Harvard and obtained an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry so I'm used to the Harvard family and life at Harvard. It's important to note that Harvard Medical is not in Cambridge like the college. When I was I student (many years ago) Harvard Medical School encouraged all their students to pursue any interest they had both in the medical world and outside the field of medicine. For me as a student I always had interests in hospital acquired infection disease and pre-hospital shock and it's relation to long-term mortality. I was able to get involved in work with other professors and work with several physicians while pursuing those interests. Harvard had a pass-fail curriculum (and the fact that professors don't write exams to be as hard as the materials are) make it possible for us to pursue many interests. Outside of the world of medicine I had worked with several agencies which was encouraged. Everyone is involved in a research project or two in all fields, some people are involved in advocacy efforts, others continue part-time careers doing other things like teaching or dancing, the list goes on. People spend the majority of their time on things that are not studying as hard to believe as that might sound. It's also important to note that only a minority of the class graduates in the standard four years that it would take one to graduate a medical program. The majority of the class takes one or more years to either do a second degree (PhD, MPH, MBA, etc), do research, or a slew of other meaningful activities. One very close friend of mine took a year off to write a book. Others do it for personal reasons. Harvard Medical is very accepting of this, and in fact many mentors encourage you to make the most of your time here instead of just rushing through it. The people I had the privilege of learning from and learning with here - my peers and my mentors both - are so incredibly special to me. And amongst the incredible crowd, there are some unique gems who still stand out, and whom I feel I might never have had the chance to know were I not at Harvard. One of the best and most interesting courses taught during our field was "Introduction to Social Medicine and Global Health,". Harvard Medical School represent and define success in this society, and they serve as role models for many other institutions around the world. I have always been happy when Harvard demonstrates leadership in serving the poor, sick, abused, and alone in our world. There are many students and faculty that are committed to this and other social accountability missions, and the more the better. Harvard's increasing work with community engagement has been an area of growth that I've been happy to see coming along.
