How much can one say to review a parking structure or lot? There's actually a fair amount of difference between them.
The greatest thing about this lot is its location, diagonally across the street from the Egyptian theater, which plays cool SIFF movies all year round. It's across from the back of the Broadway Performance Hall, and close to the south end of the Sunday Broadway Farmers' Market. That's a pretty cool spot in a cool neighborhood.
The parking spaces are a mix of sizes. The compact spaces are for _really_ small cars. They were kind of tight for my old Corolla, and close to useless for my newish Camry; I almost have to climb out a window unless I'm next to a tiny car. The regular spaces on the entrance level are fine, but pretty much always full any time you'd need a paid lot instead of street parking. The roof spaces seem a bit cramped, even the regular sized ones. (Plus they're out in the weather.) The real winner spaces are down in the depths: large enough for any reasonable sized car, and usually not full.
The aisles are pretty good too. There are a few tight spots, but they're not a crazy squeeze unless someone foolish decides to try to pass you right there.
Another nice thing about access is that there's an extra exit at the bottom, and several walking exits, including one with an exit-only gate onto Pine Street.
A frequent problem with some hidden spaces in busy neighborhoods is that they're sometimes used for bodily functions that are often reserved for customers only. The northeast stairs are not immune, but it's rare that the pee smell is strong.
Finally, the price is nice. Sure, it's not five bucks any more -- they raised it to ten a couple of years ago. But it's a good price for the location, and a really nice price for walking downtown if you have time for the walk. read more
