So this is now Distinctive Dental Implants and I guess April Tressler bought it from Dr. Shipley…read more There are good reviews on both Google and Reddit and I have been having quite a time of finding a new dental surgeon since moving to Wisconsin from California from dentists who seem to think they should not be referring me to surgeons who will not see me without a referral. I admit, I am slightly complicated in that I have issues with anesthetic not working but other than that, have had a lot of work done on my mouth, need a lot of work because a large batch of work was begun in California and then we moved and so I want to finish it. I have been to probably 7 dental different offices since getting to Wisconsin and have had problems with every one of them. A dentist - and I was delighted with the honesty, eventually told me to find a prosthodontist as they deal with complicated cases (needing more anesthetic shouldn't be complicated but what can I say?). In any event, I searched for some in Madison and this office came up. Checked out their reviews and, seeing as they will do a free of charge initial appointment with a treatment plan thought they seemed like a good bet seeing as every other dental office tries to hit you for x-rays even if you have just had them done - I have had offices tell me their equipment can't look at a specific type of x-ray and I kid you not. The appointment itself was great actually, nice staff and Dr. Tressler seemed very can-do and knowledgeable. We waited at the front desk for maybe 10 minutes and I was handed my treatment plan with various payment options as well as a very nice discount offer - we are cash clients and off I went. About 2 weeks later I had decided and tried phoning to make my appointment - it was a Monday and they are closed on Mondays. Recalendarized and tried again and they were closed for some other reason so I went back to their website and found an email address. Sent a mail advising I would like to set up my first appointment per the treatment plan and that I wanted to pay in full for each appointment at the end of the appointment - one of the options on the plan. They reverted and said no, I had to make payments on the payment plan which was also an option. I reverted, somewhat surprised because that really is a first in my long and slightly wild experience with dentists and said that I did not want to exercise that option and that further, seeing as they had clearly left an important item out in appointment 2 - a bone graft after extraction where an implant was to then go - the treatment plan did not work because the amount for that had been omitted making it even more important that I paid as I went with the nice 10% discount they had offered. A week and a half went by and they reverted to tell me that I could pay per appointment but that the treatment plan was not variable and also confirmed an incorrect appointment date to the one that was actually made. I reverted and asked how on Earth they could think that I was going to have a tooth extraction and then go back to have my jaw opened again for a bone graft and on which planet did they think that treatment plans should not be variable? I should mention that I had, in the meantime, checked what the current rate for a bone graft is and, surprise surprise, it is pretty close to what was offered as the "cash discount" on the treatment plan. I further questioned the incorrect appointment date. Another week and a half went by and I suddenly got a text confirming the original appointment date. I emailed again and repeated all my previous questions and ended that email saying that no appointment was confirmed until all my questions had been resolved - bearing in mind that that first appointment consisted of two implants so not a small deal at all. Another week and a half went by and I got an email saying my appointment had been cancelled because of all the "stress I was exhibiting". LOL. Yeah, I think there might be some financial weirdness going on with these guys. As to their level of actual expertise, no idea because I am apparently too "stressful" - I think I am too knowledgeable but maybe that's just me :)

The staff is tremendously helpful And patient. DR. McHugh and his Dental assistant have been so reassuring with all of my dental concerns that I have come in with. I have tremendous anxiety about going to the dentist based on experiences from when I was little and they have helped make me feel at easy and cast my worries away when I am there. My kids are very happy with their dental hygienist, Robin; she has a special way of handling kids and they come home excited to help care for their teeth and great ideas for me to try too. The new renovations they have made is amazing, like the comfy lobby with the fireplace, a cute kids play corner, and up to date equipment. I highly recommend this place for a dentist.

They have appointments as early as 7:30am, so I can go before work. My least favorite part about the dentist is the x-rays - they are painful for me and seriously trigger my gag reflex. But the hygienists work with me once they understand my issues. They will put salt on the x-ray holder or on my tongue, which somehow suppresses the gag reflex (maybe it's just the placebo effect, but it makes a huge difference!). It's hard to explain how much of an impact this is - I still dread the yearly x-rays, but I know they try to make it as quick and painless as possible. That alone sets them apart from other dentists I have seen.

They tried to do the procedure in the dentist's office, but they weren't able to get me numb enough, and referred me to Capital Endodontics. I was nervous going in - the experience in the dentist's office the week before had me convinced this was going to be a painful procedure. Dr. Landwehr immediately put me at ease. His chair-side manner was amazing, and the first thing he explained was why I experienced pain when the dentist tried to do the procedure, and how they would numb me so that wouldn't be repeated. He then went on to explain what was going on with my tooth, why I needed the root canal, how they would do the procedure, and why it was the right solution. The procedure itself was comfortable and quick. Dr. Landwehr was thorough in explaining what was going on the entire time - what I would smell, hear, and feel - which I greatly appreciated. I think one of the most notable things about the whole experience is the absence of any post-procedure discomfort or pain. My jaw is slightly sore from my mouth being open for so long, but the tooth and surrounding area feel fine - no sensitivity, no tenderness. I had my procedure around 2:45pm and by about 6:30pm all of the numbness was gone and I was able to eat a (relatively soft) dinner without any pain or discomfort in the tooth. I highly recommend these folks if you need a root canal, and from the other reviews here, looks like you can't go wrong with any of their practitioners!

Besides giving me a phenomenal estimate that beat all others, the staff - from the receptionist to the doctor himself - was caring, friendly, and gentle. They explained each step thoroughly to me. Dr. Shipley made certain that I had enough local anesthetic to keep me comfortable during the process. I'm really glad I did, as I needed work done and they've been great every time. I've had a couple appointments, and I've left more impressed each time. The staff is open and friendly, and you have their full attention. It's a smaller office and a little busier for it, in a way that reminds me of the small town I grew up in, but I never felt even slightly ignored. They were prompt, they paid attention to my questions and requests, and they were really wonderful about talking and working with me to get me the best of what I needed and what I wanted. Personally, I rather enjoyed that they offered sunglasses to wear during the appointment, as it's much easier and less stressful than dealing with a potential migraine from too much too bright light. The dental hygienist, Susan, is incredibly kind and thorough. Dr. Lubet has more than once happily given a little extra time and work to worrisome trouble spots. All in all, I dropped in on a whim, and found myself being listened to, being worked with, feeling comfortable and accommodated, and actually pretty sure that I'm in good hands. I wasn't expecting it, but it's pretty great to keep leaving a place happy and reassured you haven't done any damage that can't be made healthier with a bit of help. My medical doctor recommended an appliance that you wear at night, like a retainer, that adjusts your jaw forward to open air passages. It is prescribed as medical, but has to be fulfilled by a dentist. My dentist is not able to bill medical and referred me to DHS. When I called, they made an appointment to see the dentist. I assumed it would be for a fitting, but she said it was to 'check my mouth." Seemed like a waste of time for both of us, but OK. When I got there we talked about the device, and recommended I waited until he got the approval from medical. I validated that I had all the correct paperwork, and a recent sleep study and X-rays. This conversation could all be done by phone, but, again, OK. Then he said that as long as I was there he might as well take a look at my mouth. I told him I already had a dentist I was happy with, and was just here for the appliance. The next day I got a call from his office. The doctor said this was "not a good doctor patient fit, "and that I should go elsewhere. Elsewhere not to include any of the other DHS offices. I was floored. I asked why, and she kept repeating the phrase over and over again, "not a good doctor patient fit." I asked if I had something, if he didn't have time, if he preferred I move all dental business to that office. Do you call that a satisfactory answer? After 3 days of searching for another un-network dental office that could make the device and bill medical, I finally found one. All of their requirements need to be done online. I emailed DHS to ask if they would forward all the info they got from my doctor to me. No response.the next day I repeated the request - no response. Then I asked if they would do me the courtesy of at least respond whether they could or could not. Rude, unprofessional, uncooperative. Those are the three words that first pop into my mind.I still have no idea what the problem was. I don't know what their standard density practices are like, but this is not a business I would entrust my teeth with.

My mom's 18th birthday present back in the day was a full set of upper dentures. I have an older sibling who has dentures. Ugh. So I sucked it up and headed here upon the recommendation of my dentist to increase the upkeep on my still kinda pearly Irish chompers. Dr. Joe is a really nice guy. I did some research on him and found out he went to Harvard, which, if you mention it, he waves away as though it's nothing. He and his staff were very careful to explain everything that was going on, and what I needed to have done, while tedious, was not bad at all to deal with. They are great about keeping on you about checking in with how you are doing as you heal up. Other than it seems like most patients I've seen are at least 20 years older than me, and are being picked up after their appointments by their children while I can still drive, I am adjusting to the fact that there is no shame to getting some additional dental help. It's even kind of cute seeing all these who are around the age my parents would be if they were still around.
