I lived in Belleville for 25 years and shopped there all the time. The prices are excellent and if…read moreyou use a lot of lunch meat and slab bacon it would be beneficial to take a day trip to load up your freezer with these items. For example, I purchase Canadian bacon before moved last July at $6.99/#. Maple syrup would be a good item as well and their homemade chicken salad, ham salad, macaroni and potato salads are awesome. They also make dips and one of my favorites is the roasted red pepper dip and the other is a cinnamon walnut raisin cream cheese spread for toast. Don't forget the spice section, and if you need kitchen utensils, large, cast-iron, skillets, and other kitchen needs buy them at Peights, If take a trip to Belleville, make sure that you stop at the Amish Farms and load up on vegetables such as big green, yellow, and red peppers three for a dollar fresh corn out of the field $4.00 a dozen. Prices may be a little higher this summer, but nothing close to what you paying the South Hill suburbs to Pittsburgh. Wilson's Meats has been a staple butcher shop & grocery store in the area for years. This…read moresmall-town grocery store offers a variety of food staples in addition to homemade baked goods such as delicious whoopie pies. The focus of this review is on the butcher shop, which is a high-quality operation that is not found in most major chain stores. The butcher area offers a good selection of hand cut meats, homemade sausages, and everything else one would expect from a professional butcher! Don't expect mass produced and packaged meats here because their fresh cut meats and poultry are amazing! The main reason we drove out of our way to stop by Wilson's was for their homemade hotdogs! While eating at Shy Bear Brewing recently we loved the gourmet hotdogs they were serving. These hotdogs were plump, flavorful, and had that snap when biting that most mass-produced hotdogs do not have. When asked we were told that Wilson's Meats makes all their hotdogs for them! These hotdogs were the best I've ever eaten and we knew we MUST have these for our 4th of July picnic! If you want high quality meats and some of the best hotdogs around, stop by Wilson's Meats. Be sure to grab a few whoopie pies while you are there!

This is, quite simply, the best country style grocery store in the area. From a great selection of…read morelocal sweets to the superb selection of local meats, this is the standard in the Lewistown area. I refuse to buy hamburger from the corporate "giants" after shopping at Wilson's. You may pay more, but it is well worth it. Also, there is more to Wilson's than the butcher shop/deli counter. There is also the cheap candy box. In it, you will find all sorts of classic varieties of old school treats at a the prices you might have had as a kid. There are local treats such a whoopie pies and Asher's Peanut Butter eggs when in season. They carry local PA Dutch favorites such as homemade chicken corn soup. They also carry a great selection of local spices and salad dressings. The Wilson's own and operate this store themselves. In fact, you will see Steve back behind the deli counter quite regularly. Stop in, have a treat, and enjoy.

I have problems with the cold and my hands with my CRPS but being shown where to look for Christmas steaks did cut down my freezer time. The guy offered to help me to my van, I have crutches, but my daughter was able to carry the amount we had. I think a sign near the main road would be helpful. It was my first time being there and I wasn't sure I was on the correct road at one point. Haven't eaten the meat yet but it looked good.

Apparently there are no firm plans to rebuild a permanent edifice to replace the one that burned down. So for now we will take what we can get! It would be such a shame if this legendary local treasure ever closed up for good. There is a restaurant, craft shop, and grocery/deli. I visited the latter two on my recent trip to central PA. You will still find the same types of products as before, but quantity and selection are reduced due to the size of the space. In particular, the meat case and bulk goods are a small proportion of their former glories. The good news is that the bakery still sells chocolate whoopie pies and apple moon pies--the only kinds that there should be. Weirdo versions such as peanut butter whoopie pies and peach moon pies are offered as well, but why bother when you can get the real thing. The craft store is a bit smaller than previously, but still stocks a great range of, um, crafts. Things like tea towels and trivets and table runners, Christmas tree ornaments, candle holders, various porch decorations, and all sorts of other knick-knacks. There are even some locally produced goods such as aromatic soy candles by Brick Arch and gorgeous-smelling soaps from Shade Mountain Naturals. It's important to buy local, especially in small towns. We happened to be there on "Black Friday" (such as it is in Big Valley), and the craft shop was sampling cookies and dips from the deli. And by "sampling" I mean that there were two large trays put out in just the time that I was there. Mmm, generous and delicious. I'm not sure why Yelp created a second listing, but everything that I said about the old location is still worth reading, if only for nostalgia's sake. http://www.yelp.com/biz/peachey-a-j-and-sons-belleville
