It's a pretty good school. there are some things they could work on but I think they try pretty hard and my kids like it.

Named for Sing Lum who graduated from Bakersfield High School in 1924. He helped organize the Panama Union School District and was on the first school board in 1944. At the age of 65, Mr. Lum became a competitive runner. He set national and international records by the time he was 70! In 1970, he retired as a farmer from Wasco. He went back to school to get his real estate license. He died in 1994 at the age of 90. I have been at this school for 17 years, 12 of which I have been employed. I have been through three principals and a variety of staff members over the years. I love this school because my children went here and I was always actively involved. It's a great little location right next to Campus Park South. Many students have had many "park days" over the years. This is the last year of the original "temporary" school foundation. Students and staff coming back for the 2016-17 school year will be treated to a brand new school! It's definitely bittersweet for many...leaving so many fond memories behind but also looking forward to a new beginning! I gave 5 stars because all the principals have been amazing over the years. The front office staff is friendly and always helpful, and the teachers are GREAT. If your child is lucky enough to be a Lum Lion, consider yourself lucky!!

I think the teachers were attentive for the most part, and kind. She did lose a pair of pants during her time in this class, and it was never found. 2) cuddly cubs // Deanna/Dorrie were the primary caretakers - our toddler was the best eater, always finished her lunch and excited for pick-up. lots of parallel playing here, and Dorrie always said she was the sweetest and obedient kid. never got into trouble. She did come home with a scratch on her arm, which another kid did to her, and we had to inform the teachers. What we love about this facility is the following: - our kid would come home with her own creations and artwork pretty often, at least 2-3 deliverables per week. that was really awesome. - they have parent teacher conferences (about 30 minutes long) to discuss progress made w/ your child, this was a useful session to have and share our own points of view, etc. - the facility is relatively new and they have events that are fun such as the halloween parade, mother's/father's day celebrations, etc. - plenty of parking in the lot, and you feel that the place is secure in terms of safety (locked doors, and the reception area has people at the front desk). What was a bit strange was the following: - they weren't upfront with us during enrollment that you should bring your own bedsheets and water bottle. we didn't know about it until 2-3 months into our class that we were suppose to bring our own. it would have been nice to have those expectations set up front. They made it seem like they were doing me a favor by providing bedsheet & paper cups. I mean give me a break, just tell me so I can bring my own. - billing was pretty lax, you basically submit a monthly check for tuition, and then they only give you a receipt if you ask for it. i had to do my own calculations to make sure that i was paying the right amount to include any fees, since they were pretty vague about what i owed

Love that this school promotes and pushes the kids educationally and makes their learning experience fun. This is one of the only schools that have the G.A.T.E. program from my understanding and they have to bus the other kids from neighboring schools to attend. This school is one of the top elementary schools in Bakersfield, from the kids scoring really well academically to the parents playing a huge role being involved with tons of activities and with teachers participating and pushing the kids to be successful. It's a really clean school and the school strives to stay safe and to keep clean. I have had a lot of ups and downs here, my older son is deaf and most of his years attending Stockdale was always positive, but there were a few teachers who you can tell did not want to spend time with a disabled child or "deal" with it. My son was too advanced to be in a mentally challenged class, but not advanced enough to be in a regular class, so he struggled a lot being in a regular course class. On a positive note, there were many teachers that are amazing people and take the time to create an atmosphere where education was extremely important and there were more teachers like that in this school rather than the bad apples here. I have never had any similar situations with my younger son as he is always academically advanced and that part gives me a lot of mixed feelings. I feel like he had a more fair experience because he wasn't disabled and he did not have to have a whole lot of one on one since he was advanced, but I honestly can't judge that part and say that's why he may have had a better experience because people who have a child with a disability always feel shorted by everyone, so maybe it's just me. Both my kids absolutely loved this school and has had a positive experience here for the most part. Both kids had an opportunity to participate in numerous activities (Band, Chorus, Battle of the Books, Math Field Day, Track and many more). Their most memorable moments had to be their last year when they both went to Camp Keep to experience the outdoors science and education. This gave them an opportunity to gain closer relationships with their peers and to learn a little bit of independence. The school has prevented a lot of traffic problems by utilizing their valet in the front of the school or drop offs at the back of the school, the only thing that still bothers me til this day is when parents drop off their kids at the back of the school, the principal/teachers have had this rule about parents parking in the middle of the road and letting their kids out instead of safely parking and letting their kids out. The principal/teachers have had multiple meetings with parents letting them know this is illegal, yet I honestly feel the principal only allows certain parents to still do that, my suggestion is to make sure your child and everyone elses kids are safe. If you plan to allow your kids to attend Stockdale Elementary, I believe your kids will have one of the best educations in Bakersfield for a public school.
