It has a narrow front between two other shops, which meant that I missed it for several years despite walking past it every day! The Courtyard has an impressive selection of teas, including some specialist teas which are blended by the proprietors themselves. The interior offers a small seating area with four tables in what appears to be a converted house. It is very cosy, and the kitchen opens onto the seating area, adding to the homely vibe. I ordered some of the House special Russian Caravan plus the creamed mushrooms. As the inside was rather busy, I was offered a seat in the snug, which is a separate outhouse reached through the lovely quiet courtyard. The staff were very hospitable and even nipped across to the supermarket to fetch ingredients which they did not have on the premises to make my order! Inevitably, this meant that the speed of service was rather relaxed. But I would happily have stayed there all afternoon, it was so peaceful. A real hidden gem, as I said before, with a calm atmosphere and really polite friendly staff. Enjoy a tasty, home-cooked cake or meal and a nice pot of tea (served in cast-iron Asian pots) when you are in no rush to be anywhere else. Children and dogs are more than welcome - I asked on behalf of my sister and niece who were visiting!

The Poole extension of Rockets and Rascals has taken the baton handed over by the flagship Plymouth branch and run with it. I'll be honest, I'm biased. I was a regular at the Plymouth store and will be here in Poole now I'm local. They are friendly, helpful, community minded, independent and generally pretty darned good. They brew coffee and build good bikes. They cater to mummies and pushchairs, tourists and hardcore cyclists looking for a caffeine fix. They are not cheap, but they are inexpensive. There is a subtle difference, and one which is worth the extra few pennies. If you are looking for an eclectic cafe with good music, excellent food and outstanding coffee look no further. They even have regular rideouts and a loyalty card scheme. Bonus!

Naturally I had the decaf option which the staffer happily served up for me. There's comfy seating and some local literature lying around to pass the time. Everything is Starbucks-priced but that's not a bad thing. There's also a phone charging service and wifi is available (but you gotta ask for the password!).

This is a new addition to Poole High St, and begs a few thoughts…read more It is virtually opposite Caffe Nero, which has built up an established clientele, and nearer to the Dolphin Centre where there are several coffee places. And we are now in recession. Also Costa is nearby! I am all for competion, and the interior is certainly a comfortable place, especially on a freezing day! But it is not well positioned really. Maybe a price war will start, but as it's a franchise I don't know if this is a reality. Anyway, good luck to them, they'll initially get Caffe Nero's overflow, although yesterday Starbuck's was empty and the other very full.

Adding to the improvements in the coffee, is the selection of new foods available. WiFi access has been setup, and is fast, and generally the place is fairly quiet, a definite plus over the options close by.

This is a vegetarian cafe…read more Although not a vegetarian, I do love good veggie food, and this place seems to hit the spot. They do baguettes, baked potatoes, soups, cakes and the like. It is fairly small, but two storeys, and seems contstantly full. Obviously they are doing something right. It is also conveniently located just outside the Dolphin Centre and not too far from the station. It always reminds me of a double decker bus, but that's just the wanderings of a peculiar mind. Prices seem right, and I'd recommend it, if you can get in!

The owners, Nicky and Pete are simply lovely, they can't do enough for you and make a mean breakfast! They have a lovely, old red setter called Bertie, who deserved a lot of my fussing over! The room was quaint and old fashioned in the nicest sense, with a comfy bed, wardrobe and t.v, plus gorgeous views looking onto the garden. It holds a large on-suite, with a huge bath but my only complaint is the shower didn't work too well, the temperature of the water couldn't make up its mind and kept switching from hot to cold, forgot to mention it to them though. This place is perfect for Ramblers, a short distance from the centre of Wareham and Poole. I recommend!
