It gave you information on the course itself and the story behind the foundation of this race. The announcers and crowd had great energy. There was the option for bib pick up the day before or morning of and I did morning of. Super fast and easy! There were prizes for a costume contest and even some doggies were dolled up. Super cute! A couple of things we started the 13k (8.07 miles ) at 8:15 so we were burning up halfway until the end. Yikes! The 5k started after. Also, this has nothing to do with the race but this beach is so unkept. Really sad! Overall great race I would do it again especially with a group of friends like we did! I got 1st place in my age category and my girlfriend also placed 2nd in her age category!

I'm writing as a spectator. I love/hate Long Beach, but just know the parking here is nuts on a…read moreregular day. I parked at the court structure off Magnolia and Ocean and walked to International Tower which is about a 15 minute walk. Look at the course map at least a day in advance and get here at 5 am to get a decent parking spot otherwise you're walking a couple blocks. Things to bring as a spectator supporting the runners: sunblock (even if it starts off cloudy, it always gets super sunny at some point), water, a sign, a cow bell or air horn, SNACKS! My sister ran the half marathon and said that they don't really provide snacks along the route and that regular citizens were out there handing runners water, shots, shot blocks, nuts, etc. Another thing to bring is some sort of totem or sign that your person can see and find you in a crowd with. Last thing is a battery pack or charger. I forgot mine in my car and my phone died whilst tracking my sister using Find my iPhone. I reconvened with my other sister after the race and people were parked crazy like on a normal day in Long Beach. One truck was parked at an angle facing the corner of an intersection. I know it's a thing at night if there's no parking on the street you can park in a red zone out here and just move your car first thing in the morning. Seems like that was the vibe still for the marathon. Not saying you won't get towed, but a lot of people were parked in loading zones, passenger loading and unloading (my sister parked in front of a church loading zone and miraculously did not get towed), etc. Park at your own risk, I paid $15 for parking at the court house for peace of mind but it's not unusual to see people parked in any available spot that's not a designated spot.

This is a tough course especially now that it ends at Avenue of the Stars with the last couple of miles being rolling hills but don't fear LA got you. I always enjoy this marathon but sign up early so you don't have to pay a crazy fee. I also get the refundable insurance just in case I learned my lesson when I got injured and had to walk most of the marathon in 2023. This has to be my favorite Road running race!

The experience of running in the LA Marathon was both unbelievable and unforgettable. The entire…read morecity showed up to support runners like myself in a way that felt downright transformative. Every mile was packed with supporters, live music, drag queens, and grab and go grub, so the energy through all 26 miles was amaze. The race itself was also thoughtfully organized, with friendly staff and signage throughout the entire race. My only quam is that after the finish line there was around a quarter mile walk to refuel and get to bag check. Although it's only a quarter mile, it did feel like an eternity on shaky lactic acid legs. With that said, I'm absolutely going to run it again next year. Only love to you LA (hearts)

Free beer, free pizza, and free massage at the end of the race? I'm IN! Sadly all we ended up getting was a can of beer, the pizza was out, and we missed out on the massage. Oh well, I didn't need those pizza anyway after burning all those calories. We had two options for parking; either the Santa Monica lot or the Venice lot. We parked in the Venice lot and the walk to the start of the race was actually pretty far away. Jogging there gave us a good warm up I guess. The event was pretty well organized. They had bag check in and pickup signs everywhere. They had plenty of photographers everywhere. And they had plenty of water booths, porta-potties, as well as security everywhere. As for the running portion, it was alright. Parts of the race was really nice as you ran along the shore. Sadly, of all the times, LA suddenly decides to have a cold snap and record lows in temperature! Throughout the race, about every two miles, there are water / Gatorade stations and porta-potties. And at certain mileage points, there are either DJ's playing music, live bands performing, or groups of people cheering. At one of the turns there was a group of cheerleaders doing pyramids, pretty cool! And at another part there was a group of people playing giant drums, also very cool. The first half of the race was quite okay, but the second half became freezing as you're sprinting mostly downhill. It really sucked right before that downhill portion though because it was all up hill for a couple of miles before the loop back down. The worst part was that the road was very deceiving into making you think that it was going to loop soon.. and you end up going a good handful of miles before it actually does. Sigh.. Overall its a nice race, on a nice course, with good organization. The medal at the end is pretty neat, and I really liked the free t-shirt you got at the packet pickup. I was really sad about the pizza running out though, since I was starving by the time I was done.

Awesome Half Marathon Event (4 stars)…read more The half marathon event was an awesome event. -online registration was quick and easy -confirmation came right away -email information came regularly -bib pick up was a little downer -start line was conveniently located on Venice Beach -route was easily marked with lots of police escorts -great support from the water stations -nice bands along the way to entertain -finish line was nicely located downhill -lots of shuttle buses to return to the start line -AWESOME Medal Yay for my finish at 1:58, and I definitely plan to return next year Give the option for bib pick up in the morning of the race.

Along with the gracioius donations and heavy sponsorship, runners raised (at the time of this writing) upwards of $59,000. That's big time! And that's what great about getting involved. I mean, you don't have to actually run. You can walk. You can jog. You can "wog," if you like. But the point is that you are getting some exercise, and you're doing it for a worthy cause. (Running for charity is tax deductible, by the way.) Like I said: you could, of course, run. I did. In fact, this chip-timed 10K was my fastest to date: 1:04:44.6. However, there were many others who took a more relaxed approach: they walked, took their time. And on this morning here in Culver City, it was a beautiful morning to do just that. By the time that the 5K began at 8:00am (and the 10K a half hour later) the sun was already shining down upon the Washington Blvd. course, and the temperature was just pushing the upper 60's as runners took their marks. This out-and-back course is flat and fast, and the 10K is a double loop. Generally, I don't favor loops (I prefer scenic stretches) but the run is fun, and it's certainly social: over 1,200 devoted, shoe-laced participants registered, and hundreds of applauding spectators were there in support. Nice job, Culver City! You should be proud! =]

Great 5k and 10k running events (5 stars)…read more The Culver City 5k and 10k events were in its second annual event to raise funds for Train 4 Autism and the Education Foundation for the Culver City schools. -Registration online was quick -Donations were welcomed -Confirmation was quick -Email information was convenient -Facebook info was very nice -Website was really really good with lots of useful information -Morning event was memorable -Bib pick-up was easy -Port-a-Potties centrally located -Pre-race entertainment was fun -Mayor's speech was a little dodgy, but what do you expect from a politician who doesn't run? -Start time was ON TIME for the 5k -Got back just in time for the 10k ON TIME start -5k route was flat and easy and did it in 25:44 -10k route was 2 loops and i ran with friends -Lots of cool runners -Finisher's medal was cute, and I got 2 I really loved this event since it reminds me of a small town feel with about 400 runners. Oh, after I ran both events, and got my two medals, one of the ladies gave me a strange look and asked why I had 2 medals. I told her that I had run both event and showed her both bibs - ha! ha! ha! I definitely would return next year for the 3rd annual Culver City 5k and 10k runs, and run both.

Update for 2021 This…read morerace was unable to take place on their usual June date but was pushed to October 30 this year. Costumes were encouraged so that made it fun. They held a costume contest after the race. Excitingly they have a new start/finish line on Daisy Ave just blocks from the old spot, with the set up in the parking lot behind the real estate company and LB Beer Lab. If you stopped by the Lab on Friday at bib pickup and day of race, the beer was $5. I found it easy to find parking in the neighborhood. The 10k started 10 minutes late but was not a big deal as the weather was perfect for running. It's so small of an event that there's plenty of room at the start line. The course takes you along the river path 2 separate times. The star of the post-race refreshments of course was the Buono's pizza. A few days after the race, my bananas are still in the process of ripening. It's a shame no ripe bananas were in sight after the run and the cut up green bananas likely went to the trash because they were impossible to enjoy. I asked for a few of the uncut bananas to take home. The hydration they gave us at the end was Pocari Sweat which I have never had. After some research, I learned this is a Japanese brand; the equivalent of our Gatorade. This is a clear liquid so thinking you're hydrating with water to be hit with sweetness was a surprise. Looking at the label we discovered it has 31 grams of sugar, yikes! Since I like this community race so much I'm already signed up for June 2022 at the cheapest price. I see for 2022, they're doing a half marathon distance in addition to 10 mile, 5k, 5k stroller, 10k and the kids races.

From center area to the RIGHT side of the convention center are the businesses supporting the even along with vendor merchants marketing/selling their running wears (be it clothes, sunglasses, electronics, recovery, foods, etc.) ..... THEN you have the Disneyland merchandise area exclusive to the year's event. (Magic Key discounts apply only here, not on vendor merchant purchases.) This is a place where you can easily make new Disney friends with new guests and vendor merchants. OH, there are free samples to taste as well. This will be my 6th year, I believe, participating in this walk... and I dont wish for anyone to…read morehave to know why this exists. It is such an emotional, but empowering day. Every year I join the team with Erin Runnion and The Joyful Child Foundation, in memory of Samantha Runnion. I had no idea what to expect my first time doing this walk, and to this day, I am still not prepared every year for the emotions involved. There are survivors who inspire, and there are family and friends who support them, or are honoring the memory of their lost loved ones. Its not a large crowd, like your typical 5K, but its an intimate crowd and its very touching. There are some booths with items related to self defense and things of the sort... and speakers and some music usually. There is a dove releasing ceremony that brings me to tears, every single year for victims and / or their loved ones. This is so beautiful. Each individual gets to release their dove by themselves - it is not a group release which is so special I feel. I dont even know what to say about this event, other than its a day that is sad and emotional and a great cause to raise some money for those who have been victims of crimes and their families. The walk is through Mason Regional Park in Irvine which is a nice park. I enjoy this event because I love seeing everyone support each other, and feel supported, but I do not enjoy why everyone is there. Its hard to put into words just how this event makes me feel.

After the race was a crime survivor dove release - which also was very touching. To sum up: If you ever feel like participating in a good cause and raising awareness, this is a perfect race to participate in. If you are a crime survivor yourself, it is also a nice community to get support.
