Few people I know told me to visit Harry Ramsden's for their famous Fish & Chips so I brought my niece & nephew for lunch. We went as soon as they opened so the place was not busy. The place was huge and lots of tables and the staff was friendly and approachable. We've ordered the Cod Fish & Chips and was very happy. The fish actually smells good and very delicious with crispy batter and tender hot meat. The potato chips were also very good and the small cuts were actually crispy. Honestly this is the best fish and chips I've been to, the batter they use is very tasty and their chips have a very nice texture to them, I have ordered the fish bites a number of times here as I like having the small selection of different fish, I would recommend this chippy and will definitely be returning read more

From the moment we walked in on the busy airshow weekend, the staff were pleasant and helpful. Our meal from start to finish was delicious. Our waitress Georgina was so nice, courteous and nothing was too much trouble and made sure that everything was okay for us. Watching all the staff including the lovely manager run an very busy restaurant under extreme pressure, was very impressive, everyone was treated with courtesy and a smile,what a difference that makes to a dining experience! So, well done to you all, but especially Georgina, I believe credit should always be given when you get such good service, having worked in the food service industry, I know what a thankless task it can be sometimes. Better than expected but not quite the "local" experience I had hoped for. I didn't realize that this place was a chain until I read about it in a previous Yelp review. We found ourselves here one sunny afternoon after being sucked in by the "World Famous Fish and Chips" advertising. The menu didn't really offer a great variety of food outside of fish & chips, fish cakes, bangers & mash, and burgers (I had been hoping for grilled fish and a nice salad). However my pan fried haddock, chips and side salad were actually really good (and also got the thumbs up from my toddler). The fish cakes were not quite as well liked by my husband. I wouldn't normally darken the doorstep of a national chain if a local option is available. But, on a recent trip to Eastbourne, the local chppies looked rather down at heel. So we opted for Harry Ramsden' and were pleasantly surprised. The service was friendly and efficient and we were swiftly sat down outside at a table by the seafront. The fish and chips I had were fairly priced at £8.95 and came with bread and butter and a helping of tartare sauce. Strangely, the tables were not furnished with Tomato Ketchup so I had to go inside to find that. The chips themselves were marvellous and the undisputed highlight. Freshly fried, dry, and with a bit of bite. They weren't soggy, or greasy or underdone. They were textbook chips and that's quite rare in Britain's seaside resorts. Yum. So, I sent for seconds! Previous reviews are out of date.I understand that there are new owners.I live in The north of England & fish & Chip 'Restaurants' & Shops in are everywhere but I have not come across one as good as this. I first visited on Monday & have been in everyday since.The Staff are Smart,very pleasant,give excellent & rapid service & the food couldn't be better whether Fish or a Knickerbocker Glory made By Hana ! Awful, awful to the extent in the summer months when i see people queuing up outside i feel like telling them they will be disappointed, however there are much better fish and chip shops further along the road! The only thing this place has going for it is its location. Has both eat in and takeaway, although only had a take away which was enough. I cannot understand why this restaurant is always so busy, it's the fish and chip equivalent of wimpy. There are a good number of high quality fish and chip shops in Eastbourne, some within a stone's throw of Harry Ramsden's, but because it has a well known name and it's in a prominent location, tourists all seem to end up here. As a part of a large chain, I would certainly expect a lot more from this place. I have been once and will not bother again - the chips are very poor - cold and black (looked like scraps of fried rotten potato), I ordered Scampi and found when I got home I was given half scampi, half chicken nuggets, and when I said it was to be taken away, please could I have a bag, the worker simply folded the cardboard box over and said 'no'. On a normal Friday we pop along to Wetherspoons-either in Eastbourne or Hailsham.But this week we used a 2-for-1 voucher from local paper to try for our 1st time your food etc. Chose the medium fish-said twice we did not want the bread & butter and asked if we could have garden peas rather than mushy peas.Why was a choice not on menu???? Both requests were noted BUT when the cold plates arrived-yes got it in one-bread and butter was on our plates.Pathetic. Nobody came and dared asked us how the meal was-peas were swimming in bowl of water/batter was soggy(so not freshly cooked) and the so called" special treatment" of double cooking chips clearly had not been done as warm and soggy.What on earth the experience is supposed to be we will never know. The charge was £10.35 each but thank goodness our bill was only that for the 2 of us. When we asked for bill we then suffered ages for it to arrive-and all that was said by waitress was "SORRY YOU HAD TO WAIT SO LONG"- We are both pensioners in our 70's and look forward to any meal out as a treat.This clearly was not and very angry at the level of catering we were subjected to. Staff clearly are rushed off their feet with nobody visibly in overall charge-why ever not?? Suggest staff pop along to Wetherspoons and see how they do it.Brilliant. read more
