The only good thing about this pharmacy is they seem to have hired and employed the meanest people I've met in the town all week. In helpful, rude and just mean people, this was just the gal behind the pharmacy. I don't know anybody else I didn't talk to anybody else. read more

I needed something in the drug store. I found what I needed and went to check out. There was one person checking out. She walked away after her purchase. I stepped up, and the clerk just walked away. I asked if she was still open, and she said yes, but I'm leaving. A couple of minutes later, another clerk came up. I told her what had happened, and she said that the clerk had gone to lunch. If the clerk that left had just said, "I have to go to lunch," I would have understood. But, to just walk away, it's unprofessional and rude. read more

I had to go here to get a prescription while I was in the middle of a cruise. First the store smells amazing like waffle cones because right in the front they are making fresh waffle cones for their delicious ice cream. You must get some if you visit. The pharmacy team was amazing and all the staff in the store where so nice. It was such a a great experience. This location is right downtown so if you are on a cruise and need anything this is the best place to get it. Charming old school pharmacy. Very clean and organized inside. The pharmacy tech was extremely kind and helpful. Definitely came in for drugs, and left not only with binoculars and a bunch of toiletries, but the most delicious coke float as well! The girls in our group loved their ice cream too. Come for the drugs, stay for the milkshakes. Walking by, I happened to notice this old fashioned drug store advertising a soda fountain. Yes, like the kind your grandparents used to order egg creams from. Frankly, I was amazed. I hadn't been to such an establishment before and I'm guessing most of y'all haven't either. They offer a wide range of ice cream sundaes and milkshakes. Plus a bunch of things I have never heard of. Definitely adds to the charm. I settled for a Blue Lake and sat patiently while it was meticulously hand spun by the soda jerk. Gotta hand it to them for holding up traditions. It was good. Not mind-blowing by any means but it transported me to a bygone era. And I suppose that's all you can ask for from a place like this. Any downsides? Just my lactose intolerance. The sun was out in Sikta, the silvers were jumping and we were wandeirng downtown enjoying the vibe. We stopped into Harry Race's for ice cream. Yes! Harry Race has a soda counter just like Mr Gower's Pharmacy in "It's a Wonderful Life". We all got cones. Good sized, lots of flavors to choose from, and reasonably priced for Sikta. Harry's has a bit of everything. Not your typical L48 chain store. It's a throwback. read more

Pharmacy and the pharmacist are helpful! The store has a variety of nick-nacks and trinkets. The ice cream parlor is a disappointment. I ordered a milk shake, I got a very watery shake... I ordered an ice cream cone, the cone was stale. Sadly it's the only place in town to get ice cream, besides the grocery stores. read more

Nice little drug store but they were really not very friendly. They would not allow me to use their toilet so I was sent to the back to the pharmacy to ask and beg for the use of the toilet. Upon being denied again I was instructed to go outside and down the street to the city offices where I could find relief. In the Soda Fountain we ordered several Items but the person was not too keen on really making our drinks correctly. Finally we gave up and spent nearly $40 and moved on. Some places are very friendly in Alaska but they have a lot of work to do. read more

Wife and I are lifelong Sitkans. My brother went to school with the Whites. Trish and Dirk are some of the nicest down to earth business owners you could meet. Their staff are happy and treated well. Some are very long term employees which means we've known some for at least decades. The ice cream parlor is reminiscent of an old fashioned Alaskan soda counter. We had one very similar in Wrangell called the Den 'O Sweets. The ice cream is delicious as are the root beer floats. This is more of an old fashioned general store and drug store that your Mom and Dad probably were used to when they went shopping. But there are plenty of modern products and the pharmacy is first-rate. Nice and professional people. If you are a visitor to Sitka, please make a stop by our jewel of a store and meet some real Alaskans. read more

When I heard that Harry Race Pharmacy had an old-fashioned soda counter I squealed with delight. It was the coolest thing ever! I was transported back to a time that I never experienced but wished that I had. After much indecision I chose the Majestic Mocha Malt, which was delicious but very thick and filling. My boyfriend, on the other hand, had the Green River (soda water and lime syrup) and it was just about the best thing I ever tasted. The prices were reasonable, and they whip up your chosen beverage before your very eyes. It was the perfect ending to my trip to Sitka! read more

A "Good Neighbor" pharmacy, Harry Race Pharmacy & Photo in Sitka gives me that old school drugstore establishment feel. The pharmacist owner was in front of the counter chatting with customers. His OTCs were very reasonably priced. I had more than a few "Whoa - That's a Low Price" moments walking their shelves. I even found some Luden Cherry cough drops that I used to eat like candy as a child for sixty cents a box. While the quantities are limited, their small buys (e.g. Eskimo dolls, bear claws salad servers, etc.) are comparable in price and selection to the larger Sitka souvenier shops. I especially liked the Soda Fountain and Photo Center with bags and gears I've only seen online. It took a good amount of self control to limit the purchases to a hand camera strap and 77mm Hoya UV filter for my walk-around lens that I would have to special order in the lower 48s. But above and beyond the front end and prescription service, fair prices and good selection, the customer service was unbelievable. Aside from the 77mm UV filter, I also had purchased a 67mm Hoya CPL filter for the zoom lens. The camera counter guy witnessed my disappoinment when my lens cap did not fit over the new CPL filter. Anywhere else, I'm sure I would have had to eat the cost of my impulse buy. Instead, camera counter guy empathized with my miscalculation and refunded the purchase with a swipe of my credit card. I left wondering how difficult are the Alakan Pharmacy Boards - because this would be a really great place to do some per diem vacation coverage. read more

Very nice, helpful place, in the heart of Sitka, Alaska. Never heard of Sitka? It was the de facto capitol of Russian-occupied Alaska until 1867, when the US purchased it. Very cute town with heavy Russian ethnic presence. This charming drug store has an old fashioned soda fountain that makes milk shakes to die for. They have the usual assortment of greeting cards and tourist souvenirs as well. I didn't have to sample its pharmacy fortunately during my brief stay. The manager called a cab for me after I had no luck finding one. Unsolicited help! Not sure I'll get back to Sitka, but if I do I will visit Harry Race. read more

Summer? Beautiful and delicious ice cream are here! The staff are always entertaining customers with conversation. They give a mean big scoop on your waffle cone or cup which is always a plus! Always have new and interesting flavors that come and go. Bummed out that it's a bit nippy out? No worries they have hot chocolate for you or the kid. read more

I would give this place 10 STARS if they were offered! Alaska is beautiful to say the least and I thought Sitka was more beautiful than beautiful. Thus, I took over 200 pictures upon arrival. Excited to share them with others was met with total shock when I realized I didn't have even one picture. I thought about where in town might be able to help me after a new found friend at the Sitka Hostel suggested I have the memory card transferred to a CD. My first thought was this pharmacy after stopping there the day before for some other items. My lucky day happened when Noah, the photo guru, professional photographer, and computer tech said he would check things out and help if he could. He diagnosed the problem as a defective memory card, luckily had the exact one I needed to replace it, and spent the time retrieving the photos and putting them onto the CD. I was/am so happy! I could not believe how nice, helpful, patient, and knowledgable he was. It reminded me of the service we expected and got in the 1960's. Noah is great and such an asset to this business. I'll be writing the owner a letter about him as soon as I unpack and find their names and address. Thanks you so much, Noah! I will never forget the great service you provided. I should make a list of all of the old-school pharmacies that tug at my heartstrings. I'm such a sucker for the way things were. I had my first case of schadenfreude here. My dad actually became horrifically seasick for the first time in his life...well, the first time that he was on a boat. I ran to the pharmacy to grab him some provisions, including a few scopolamine patches (too bad it's not as effective once the sickness takes hold), ginger chews, and dramamine. I really enjoy Harry Race. It's a store for all ages. Though It isn't huge, It has a good variety of items. And for you lady's out there, it has the biggest selection of make up in Sitka. Also there's a soda shop, very old fashioned feeling. It's a drug store / soda shop / photo shop. In fact, that's where I got my first job. I started when I was 16 and worked there for a few years. read more
