It has been quite a while since I have written a review, but I could not pass up the opportunity to share what a wonderful experience I had at Harry Merrill & Son... After nine years, I *finally* decided to propose to my girlfriend, and as any guy would, I wanted both the ring and the experience to be as special as possible. I started out at two local jewelers recommended to me, but each left me feeling like I just went to the big box jeweler that begins with the letter 'K' in the malls across America. Each tried to sell me a premade ring and said they could "modify" it to "make it custom" if I wanted. No thank you! I then went to Harry Merrill on the recommendation of a family member and met Rob and Nicole. What I experienced there was something entirely different. Starting with the stone(s) and building the setting, Rob advised on what would make the best ring, took the time to answer my 101 questions, and listened to everything that I wanted. I must add that I am pretty OCD about purchases that are much smaller than this, so you can imagine what I put Rob through! He was patient and kind the entire way and gently guided me in a direction that I did not think I wanted to go in at first, but looking back I am incredibly glad I took his advice. Once everything was set into motion, Nicole stayed in contact every step of the way and was so accommodating when I had questions or had to pop in to make a change, which there were numerous instances of. When you walk down jewelers row, it is difficult to have any idea which stores are reputable and can be trusted with your most precious family heirlooms. The necklace I wanted to get fixed was one of my most prized possessions, my grandmother's necklace--a simple gold chain with her initial, J. The chain was broken and I wanted nothing more than to have it fixed before her and my grandfather's funeral (in 3 days). I really didn't know how it'd go, but I noticed this was a family-owned 3rd generation business, so I decided to go inside and inquire. I'm glad I did. I was very satisfied with the level of service from Emma. She and her colleagues catered to my self-created exigency and genuinely cared that I would have the necklace fixed in time. Emma took her time and offered several options, like getting the necklace attached to another newer chain (she was going to have this done in time, by Monday) or to buy a new gold chain and get the original chain fixed later and maybe have it turned into something else. Emma suggested maybe a bracelet. I went with the latter option so I could wear it out and not worry about picking it up Monday. Now I have a new chain (which looks almost exactly like the old one) and I won't worry about it breaking as much. Oh, and they also offered to clean my rings without me even asking. Luckily, Nicole was there to save the day! She had a rendering prepared for us to review based on an idea that my fiance had sent over to her prior to our visit. Nicole was able to identify the appropriate setting and guide us through the diamond selection process. Robert assisted us with the completion of the design, taking the time to lay out the center diamond with the surrounding 8 stones so we could more easily visualize the finished product. 45 minutes later the design was finished! A deposit was placed at this time and our search for the perfect ring was over. Nicole was timely with follow up, sending designs for approval as promised. I have now purchased two different rings via internet from Nicole. She is outstanding; she goes above and beyond for her customers. She sent me multiple pictures of different engagement ring possibilities for the most recent purchase, and made sure that I absolutely understood what was important when buying a diamond. My fiancé and I were very impressed with both the service and quality at Harry Merrill. They accommodated our somewhat unusual request without any hesitation (a pair of Mobius strip wedding bands in palladium, where mine was set with a row of tiny diamonds in the twist). They turned out gorgeously and both Nicole and Rob were great to work with. The price was very reasonable and they patiently and cheerfully answered all of our questions. In search of an engagement ring and wedding bands, my Fiancee and I decided to stroll Jewelers Row, our first stop was Harry Merrill & Son (we did not know it would be the only stop we needed). As soon as we walked in the door we were greeted by Nicole, who helped welcome us and guided us to the right section for what we were looking for. Instantly we found out that it would be a real team/family experience, which was GREAT. Now let's get to the jewelry, you could have been there all day looking, so much of a selection and a perfect stone. Robert and team really took the time to understand what we wanted and not just sell what was best for them. They truly took our best interest in what we wanted and made it happen. The fact they were more interested in the happiness of my Fiancee and what she would wear on her finger for the next 65 years was a great feeling to know they were more like match makers than just selling jewelry. Since Harry Merrill & Son was our first stop, we did decide to stop at least one other place on Jewelers Row.
