I refused to let him represent me at the trial because we had barely discussed the facts of the case. I hired him 6 weeks before a divorce trial on Jan 13 after parting ways with a previous attorney who had worked on my divorce case for a year and a half. I pretty much gave him the files to the case from the previous attorney, meaning he didn't have much to do, and mostly what his paralegal Yesenia Lopez did was file documents that came in from the opposing attorney. Even my previous attorney who I had had for a year and a half didn't bill me that much. The man rarely returned my calls and barely spoke to me about the facts of the case. I made it clear to him that I wanted to counter a proposal from my ex-wife rather than go to trial, but he never came up with one. After 3-4 emails asking why he hadn't come up with a counter proposal, it became clear to me that he was stalling to get to the trial so he could bill me even more, because that is where he stood to make the most money, so he avoided responding to me. He never crafted the counter proposal I had been asking for a month! I have attached an email I wrote to him with an order of events (after the trial in which I went alone), asking him to justify $16,000 worth of charges. With him realizing that I could report him to the Virginia State Bar, he replied with an elaborate email LYING about the order of events and cc'd Attorney Welch and paralegal Yesenia Lopez who were in on the scam, to cover his ass. His poor organizational timeline caused unnecessary delays and on multiple occasions he got details of my case wrong and documents had to be redrafted; at least twice confusing my wife's and my information. This was most notable when he thought (well into the case and with a signed property agreement in hand, mind you) that I was paying her in the settlement rather than the reality that I was receiving funds from her. In the end the case went as expected and other than a few weeks worth of unnecessary delays I was not harmed. When looking for a lawyer though, is this really the standard you want to use?

The firm found a reason to bill me for another 1.5 hours and then sued me (the client they ruined) for that small amount and then tried to initiate proceedings to take what little I had left in the world after their incompetence ruined us financially. After all of that, they tried to get me to remove my review. When I didn't, they retaliated further. They have earned their reputation for working harder against their clients than for them.
