There was one point where the lane went down to a single-lane and luckily we were behind a bus, so we just followed him through as he took the lead. Other areas of the drive were narrow lanes and windy roads, but not nearly as stressful as managing through the cities and round-abouts. We had a beautiful day for this scenic drive and we got our first views of the rolling, grassy hills with the rock wall dividing the properties. There were lots and lots of cows and the ocean peaked through during the last 30 minutes or so of the drive. It reminded me a lot of our version of the PCH drive in California from Ventura to Monterey, and was truly breathtaking. As we drove into Dingle, it was small but we could still feel the hustle and bustle from all the tourists. Dingle is a little surf town known for its fresh seafood and the location. We strolled around town, which was really just 3-4 streets, to look at the shops, restaurants and enjoy some people watching. We stumbled on a beer garden and after realizing that we were at a main pub, Dick Macks. There were tourists in this areas but also some local folks and we found a bench to share with another couple. *Pro tip* this may seem obvious, but if you stay at a B&B, you are expected to eat at the B&B in the morning... Even if you aren't hungry or don't want what they are serving or whatever.

The guesthouse features amenities like the Robert Mitchum Bar, free breakfast, beautiful lawns, and the presence of friendly Irish Wolfhounds and falcons. Gayle and I stayed here recently as part of our Essential Ireland Tour, of which I believe the owner used to be a Rick Steves Guide. We had the center room upstairs which was very comfortable and spacious, with a great view of the water and Dingle, lots of storage, and a really strong and hot shower. We really enjoyed the common spaces including the bar and breakfast room, and found staff to be really nice and helpful. The sun room breakfasts were great, as was the Irish Stew meal the last night we were here. Our tour package also included a full bag of laundry service for only 20 Euros. Location-wise, it's a short walk into town, keeping in mind the narrow bridge without sidewalk across the river. I'd only do this walk in the daytime either coming or going. And if you become stressed with that walk (or anything else), the Dingle Distillery is across the street for a tour and samples. During our walks, Gayle and I also enjoyed the tide-related river flows. Besides the Dingle Falconry experience on property (separate review), another highlight was an evening concert by 2 local members of the CUAS ensemble. In particular, we enjoyed the music and interaction with Nicole Ní Dhubhshláine (concertina, flute) and Kyle Macaulay (guitar, bouzouki). And after hearing just a taste of this vibrant and diverse West Kerry musical tradition, I went out an purchased the CD.

Interestingly, not everyone on the Rick Steve's tour was able to stay here. Not sure how the…read moreaccommodations were, but the wait staff could use some work, actually just one in particular. She was upset with us for not waiting for buffet when another staff told us to go to it. The following day for lunch they brought five of six meals to our table and then brought the meals to another table and she was very exasperated that we asked for a meal for our sixth person saying she only had "two hands."

My cheeks are still rosy from all the whiskey shots and cider ale I drank. Murphy's B & B boasts view of the harbor and is situated above a popular pub and restaurant. Don't be swayed by the fact they are above a pub, my friend and I both got restful sleep each night and never heard any of the pub noise downstairs. I arrived on a chilly windy day, with a 100 pound suitcase and a killer hangover. The host, aka Mr. Bartender, gave my friend and I our room key and offered to find us a guy to help schlep our massive monstrosities up the narrow stairs. We happily obliged. I am sure the guy thought we attempted to pack the rocks of Giant's Causeway in our loads, but sadly this was not the case. Us girls are just horrible packers. After the three of us nearly suffered a heart attack bringing the luggage up the stairs, my friend and I were overcome with emotion to see a huge room with two big comfy beds. The bathroom was small and quaint, but perfect just for two. However, I was planning on living in the pubs for the weekend, not the bathroom. It sounds like a oxymoron, I know, but somehow I managed not to make out with the toilet bowl during our stay. The full Irish breakfast each morning was better then average. I also learned here, in Ireland, that hard-boiled eggs aren't really hard-boiled. They are only cooked on the outside to deceive you, but are still yolkey in the middle. I made quite a mess my first time. Everyone we encountered at Murphy's B & B was extremely friendly and helpful. I can't wait to settle into another comfy room at Murphy's B & B again, and next time I'll leave my heart-attack inducing luggage at home.
