Decent sports bar that has a good history in the area. I stop by for the college vibe when I'm in town.

A couple of friends and I decided to have a bite to eat and a couple of drinks at Harpo's. The server, Jess, spent the entire time at her friends table and neglected serving our table. We decided to tip the server more than she deserved and she came to us directly and complained about it. After we paid our tab politely, the group of friends asked to have our table since we paid. We still wanted to finish our full drinks. Afterward, Jess came to our table and told us she had "paying customers" and asked us to leave. It was horribly rude and extremely inappropriate. read more

If you're looking for fast and friendly service keep looking. Our waitress stopped by maybe twice over the course of a few hours. The service was bad, questions were brushed off and ignored, and our server was not in the least concerned with asking what we needed. Pre covid, this used to be one of my favorite bars. Good wings ($10) with a bit of a kick. Excellent pulled pork sandwich ($9) served with fries. I tried a bite of husband's bacon cheddar burger ($10) it was also very good. At one point, my cupboards were filled with the Harpo's plastic cups. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. It usually meant we would be leaving with full cups of beer. Harpo's was always lively. There was usually good specials on beer. Nothing like a cheap solo cup filled with 6oz of Old Milwaukee beer! read more

my friends and i came in for their $2 tuesday special. first off, we sat down and never got waited on. we went up to the bar to get our own drinks and had to walk up to a waitress to put in a food order. our bill was $2, and no tip was added since we did not get served at our table. about 20 minutes later, the waitress brings out our food in togo boxes and tells us that the bouncer needs to check our id's. she walks away quickly and the bouncer informs us that we needed to leave. we asked why and he told us it was because we didn't tip the waitress. with two full drinks wasted and our togo food, we left. i'm very disappointed with the customer service and hostility in this establishment. why should i tip when i was never waited on? if i fully paid my bill and gave them business, why am i being kicked out? will never give another dollar to harpo's. if you don't want to get kicked out, make sure to tip. they make it an option but in reality you don't have a choice. read more

This college bar isn't as divey as some of the others. It's big, with lots of TVs, and a great place to hang out with a crowd. Like any other bar in Columbia, it could use a good cleanining, but throw a party every night in your house and you would too. read more

For me, Harpo's will always be a college bar. We have been here a few times when we have been back to Columbia to visit. The roof-top bar is great. The service is not. I was visiting the University of Missouri in Columbia and decided to check out the bar scene. This place was pretty awesome. The bartenders were nice and made drinks in a timely manner, and the place is pretty big, so you don't feel like you're crammed in a box of sardines like you would in the bars back where I'm from (Purdue). The upstairs patio was amazing, the music was pretty good, I'm looking forward to coming back here the next time I visit Mizzou! read more

This place was ridiculous. We were in town for a swim meet and came here for lunch between prelims and finals. First, the restaurant was filthy, extremely sticky floors, dirty tables, etc. Second, it took over an hour for the food to get to our table after we ordered, none of the staff had any clear answers as to why, and the establishment was so over staffed that everyone was walking around aimlessly. The staff were balancing time between their jobs and their college friends that had come in to "hang out". The food was underwhelming at best, nothing you would go out of your way for. In all, I would highly recommend staying away from the establishment. read more

This may have been the worst burger I've ever eaten. The service was even worse. They decided, apparently, to no longer serve fries on game days. Then they told two of us that they were out of the wing sauce we ordered. (We ordered different sauces, neither the one they were out of.) then the wings came out raw, and in the wrong sauce. I asked for a burger instead. It was clearly a frozen patty, flavorless and with the texture of an old sponge. AND we were charged full price for all of it, despite the problems. Shameful. read more

Harpo's was on of my favorites 20-30 years ago. I am a lifetime Mizzou alumni, I am 50 now and nothing but disgusted last 2 years I have been in there. My husband and I age 50 will not go back again and will encourage our daughter whom is a Freshman to not go here during the day for lunch or once she turns 21. They charge a cover with no band/DJ. They have 1 women's bathroom that is soooo filthy and my husband said the men's bath floor was covered in urine. We like more upscale bars anyway so when you walk in and your shoes stick to floor haven't had that in years we have been going to other bars/clubs. This last time we went this weekend, it wasn't that busy it was Family weekend at MU. We got a table in the back room and never had a waitress approach us. I would have drank more if our husbands didn't have to wait on themselves up at bar. There were about 6 waitresses standing over by the computer and never saw any of them one time come to our table and we sat there for 2 hours to long. Also drinks very expensive for the dump Harpos has become. Only saving grace was the long hair blonde bartender that was working back bar Sat night around 10:30pm. She was very nice. They were playing 80's music over the speaker system but was sooo loud in back couldn't hardly talk. Couldn't wait to leave and go the the classy Broadway rooftop bar. read more

Horrible bar. Rude staff poured beer on me and didnt even apologize. No one cares about you, and no one ever has a smile on their face. Some of the rudest workers in Columbia behind the bar. Smelly, dirty bathrooms with urine all over the floor. Stale, overcooked food. Watered down beer. No reason to stop here. Harpo's is one of the most overrated bars I have ever been too. Ever since Mizzou joined the SEC beers are $5 on game weekends...the bar is so crowded you can barely move, let alone get to the bar to buy a beer, and the bouncers are all pricks with their ear pieces like they're part of the secret service. I was there last weekend and ordered a round of shots and a beer. The bartender gave me the shots and forgot to charge or give me the beer, so I ordered the beer seperate. After he ran my card again, he forgot to give me the beer AGAIN! and when I asked for it...he gave me a Miller Light, not the Bud Light I ordered. As if it couldn't get any worse, I check my online bank statement the following Monday morning to find that the bartender wrote himself in a $5 tip for the beer, when I had clearly drawn a line through the tip line. I already gave him a tip for the shots, I was not about to tip him for giving me the wrong beer after I had to order it twice!!! When I called Harpo's they told me I had to file a formal dispute with my bank. I can't imagine how often they get away with this! I know it's only $5, but given the circumstances, I am by no means about to let them get away with this. I would give them 0 stars if Yelp would let me. I will never be going back again. You are much better off going to Shiloh's or BIG 12, or basically any other bar in Columbia. read more

First time coming to Harpo's, don't know if I should blame the waitress, when it was clearly her first day but anyway came to watch the Packers play. Got here at 215 asked for a menu maybe 4 - 5 times and finally got one around 245 ordered around 3. Didn't get food till I asked the second time at 355 if our food was ready. We ordered mozzarella sticks and chicken fingers... Horrible service given the fact that there was at least 10 people here waiting tables and probably only a half full restraunt. read more

Good bar. Has a lot of great history. Food is above average for a bar. Night life at Harpos is fun and usually crowded. Service is average although it is hard to get a drink sometimes. Good place to watch a sports game with friends. Summertime patio is great for having a daytime drink and expands capacity. read more

Worst experience EVER. Upon seating ourselves with no direction from anyone, a seemingly nice waitress took our drink and food order. She brought the drinks to the table and that was the last we saw of her. An HOUR AND A HALF goes by without seeing our waitress once. No checking on how we were doing or updating us on what could possibly be taking so long. Nothing. We even had to get up and go to the bar to refill our own drinks. We happened to see her bringing pitchers of beer to another table and asked her, "Do you know how much longer our food will be?" In a snotty tone, she replied, "At least another 20 minutes." We gave her a $10 bill to cover the 4 sodas and 1 water we had and left. I have lived in Columbia for 6 years and this is by FAR the worst service I have ever experienced here. read more

I went here to have a beer with some friends and by 9pm, there was a line out the door to get in. I noticed a lot of young faces and caught on pretty quick that the bouncers don't even really check identification when people are trying to get in. This is a huge cess pool of 18 to 19 year old college kids who only come to get stupid drunk. The floors are sticky with spilled drink and the place generally smells pretty awful. This place has gone way down hill. I'd give 0 stars if I could. It is a college bar run by couldn't graduate from college students and they've run it into the ground. Night I was there I witnessed an on the clock employee become so intoxicated by the end of the night she was dancing on the bar. I have been to Harpo's many times in the past and had relatively good experiences. But over the weekend I was physically thrown out of the bar for walking down a flight of stairs and trying to enter the lower region. I have never been in trouble at a bar or thrown out of anywhere in my entire life and this was honestly by far the worst experience I have ever had at any establishment in my life. The workers were incredibly rude and gave me no answers when I posed the question why I was getting thrown out. The force they used to escort me and my friend was closing in on being unlawful. I never intend on returning to Harpo's and I hope after reading this you will reconsider as well. read more

We were one of 2 tables in the restaurant and it took the waitress 10 minutes to get to us, 20 more minutes to bring back our drinks (one bottled beer and a soda), and 40 total minutes for two cold sandwiches.
