Tucked away in Panton Street, between Leicester Square and Haymarket, a very cosy but labyrinth theatre. The tiny seating area in the Stalls were put to inventive use for the Sunny Afternoon show, about the Kinks, last night. I am assuming that, as I have never been to this theatre before, that the layout does not consists of a catwalk? The catwalk jutted out from middle of the stage into the audience, with table seating either side of the catwalk, and table seating at the back of the Stalls too creating an intimate gig space rather than being at the theatre. The actors would come up and down the aisle too, so using the full Stall area.
We sat at the tables at the back, four to a table, and the seats are stuck down! Only realised as I tried to move the chair closer to the table I was sitting at to get more comfortable. It was great having a table though, as it is gives you a lot more space, leg room and somewhere to put your drinks!
Before the show started, an usher walked round with a large placard saying no photos and no recording, so alas, unable to take any sneaky shots.
Good production for Kinks fans and non-fans alike, from the oldies who remembers them to the young's first experience, as the music is really good and the songs really catchy. An enjoyable watch where it combines the excitement of a concert down to the screaming fans, with the spirit of the rebellious youth of the sixties. The second half seemed a tad long though, but everyone did stand at the end to have a boogie. read more
