We have not used this plumber in many years, but we had a pipe that had burst and was pouring water into a bedroom. We called on a Friday in the late afternoon and in 2 hours Riley was there and couldn't have been more pleasant or competent. He came up with a temporary fix that allowed us to turn the water back on until we could have ductwork removed to give him access to repair it permanently. He tested the area with air, so he wouldn't risk water leaking. He went through the whole house to make sure there weren't any other leaks and even checked the water meter to make sure water wasn't leaking where it couldn't be seen or heard. He was there for just under an hour. They are very fairly priced, although we weren't in a negotiating position. That's extremely unusual for the Hamptons. I cannot actually say if McMahon Plumbing provides "good value for service" because we never got that far. But I can say...(1) it took 30 hours to get a return call (so, no, they don't "respond quickly), and (2) when Andrew McMahon, the current owner, drove up our driveway in his large truck, he first ran over the metal edging on our driveway, then backed up into our stone wall. When my partner tried to make light of it by asking, "Drive much, Andrew?" He screamed through the window, "I'm outta here! I don't want your business!" No mention of repairing the damage. (So, again, no, they aren't "reliable." He damaged our property without even getting out of his truck. Not the kind of company one wants in one's house. read more

Harold McMahon Plumbing in Amagansett is truly a professional organization. Unlike my previous plumber, they fixed all my minor plumbing problems systematically and efficiently. Yesterday, I also had McMahon install a main water shutoff system for protection from an internal leak or broken pipe. They knew exactly how to bypass the external irrigation system, installed all the piping and completed the installation in no time flat. I manage a home in East Hampton and did not have hot water. I thought I would have to purchase a new hot water heater. Harold and his associate came out within 1 hour (I called at 3:15), told me I did not need a new hot water heater. I needed a valve from the boiler to the hot water heater since the boiler was off. I didn't need the boiler to also heat my water. Yay, money saved. Thank you for coming out so I could have hot water that night and being very efficient and a pleasure to work with. read more

I have to agree with the below commenter. I'm a lifetime Amagansett resident and have been using these guys for years, as had my parents before me. Something has been lost with the generational change here. The people in the office are rude, they never show up when they say they will, and they overbill. I'm looking for a new plumbing outfit in town, please help. These guys have lost their touch and either need to change or go by the wayside. It was a dark and stormy night, and we heard the largest explosion to ever embrace our ears. Our golden bidet had a pressure issue and exploded in half. We immediately called Harold McMahon and too our surprise someone came in a matter of minutes; it was like the plumber had a sixth sense that something was awry. Drenched in a white t-shirt at our front doorstep solely grasping a cast iron pipe in hand, Riley was there. He brought such a calming presence and fixed the problem with his big and strong hands. While writing reviews isn't something I ordinarily do, I wouldn't consider the service we just received as ordinary either. After an unexpected plumbing issue caused us to turn off the water to our house, we called Harold McMahon and Riley responded right away. He was friendly, knowledgeable and pr, and took the time to do the job right. The comfort in knowing that a local company and it's employees truly care sometimes doesn't get recognized enough, but I'm glad that in this instance I'm able to do just that. read more

i am writing this in response to Paul B's comment about Harold McMahon Plumbing and Heating. I was taken aback when i read his comments because i am a customer of Harold McMahon and have had nothing but the opposite experience. i am a year round resident of Amagansett and have used Harold McMahon for the last 25 years. I have found both Susan and Joan to be nothing but friendly and caring....i have never seen an attitude from either of them....even on a bad day they will always do their best for you. The men that fix the plumbing are always prompt and profession and make the time to explain everything to me. When i have had an emergency in the middle of the night they are there....try to find a plumber at 2am.....i don't think you will find many. i remember a day when i had a flood in my basement and the men were backed up....Harold came to my house to fix the problem.....it doesn't sound like a company that does not care about their customers. i noticed that Paul B mentioned that he never had problems with Harold McMahon before,...could it be that you just had a bad day yourself....it happens to all of us. I thought it only fair to comment on my experience with Harold MaMahon Plumbing and Heating...i could not be happier with them. read more

Since the recession began, Ive begun to rate businesses with whom I do business since my hard earned dollars go to pay for valued services of all types. I have no problem giving Harold McMahon Plumbing & Heating a very poor rating due to an unfortunate experience I had with them this summer (2011) - pre Hurricane Irene, btw. This problem could have been resolved with a simple apology, unfortunately I never received one. I will say their record up until now, nearly 12 years has been good, however my latest experience with them was very poor which is the reason for this submission. The contention I have is with updating customers while they wait for service and/or parts to be ordered. This company fails to see the importance of keeping customers informed as to how the repair process is occurring and when questioned, remain defensive and above any good customer service rules or compassion guidelines. They have no empathy for their clients' needs - they look at customer service like a burden rather than valuing a well communicated solution. Even if a company can fix a problem adeptly, if they can't communicate what they're doing then they still fail, in my opinion. Did they get my repair done? Yes. Was it done with care and communication along the way? No. For their part, after I called them on this point and even speaking with the owner, they did not charge me for the repair even though I have insisted on paying. The bill is not the bone of contention. The issue here is the way one of their valued customers was treated by one of their long time employees - I will not be calling Harold McMahon for plumbing needs in the future. read more

Harold McMahon is the best plumbing companyI've ever dealt with. They have done my annual openings and closings as well as repairs. They have an excellent staff and are always available. In addition, when I had a roof issue, they went out of their way to solve it even though it really became a roof issue, not a plumbing problem. They are outstanding in every way. The folks at McMahon have provided extremely competent, reliable, and responsive service to us for many years. They have performed annual openings and closings of our vacation home, have made improvements such as installing a continuously-draining dehumidifier in the basement, and have quickly repaired problems and emergencies (thankfully few) when they have arisen. McMahon Plumbing & Heating services has a big staff on call for emergencies, who are otherwise deployed for scheduled service appointments. They've always arrived promptly & on time. Recently, we had an after-hours emergency, and not only did the owner call us personally and try to diagnose the plumbing problem over the phone (correctly , as it turned out) , a plumber who wasn't on-call that evening volunteered to come to our house and check out the problem. He fixed it and the night we thought we'd have to spend without water turned into less than one waterless hour.
