It was therefore a huge relief to me when a trusted colleague in the landscaping business, Joe Badali, of Islington Nurseries, recommended Ontree, telling me that he now exclusively uses them for all his tree jobs, and has been extremely happy with them for several years. With that recommendation in mind, I contacted Ontree and asked for an assessment on three jobs I had outstanding. I met with their certified arborist, Jody, at the sites in question and was impressed with his intimate knowledge of trees and his assessment of how we should proceed with the jobs in question. What I particularly liked was his honesty in assessing the jobs. He did not try to suggest more work was needed, he suggested things we could minimize, or put off. He pointed out what work was critical. He was honest about the risks and pinpointed several tree health issues. One of the job sites had an access issue, where trying to get certain branches would be difficult, and Jody was pleased to point out that they have specialized equipment which is able to get through very constricted spaces and elevates the arborists safely to the target branches. ("Spider lift" machines. Spider lifts are aerial man-lifting devices that can reach various heights). Safety for anyone working around on my property or any of my client properties is very important to me, so it was a relief to hear about their equipment. (In the past, unfortunately, I have had bad experiences with tree companies that do not strictly stick to safety both for their workers and the homeowner.) After I met with Jody, it was a very short time until I received the pricing for the jobs. I made sure to be present at the job sites when the work was being carried out and was very impressed with the crew and delighted with the work they carried out. They were very courteous, answering any questions I had. They carried out the work in a totally professional and safety conscious manner. They cleaned up the work site. All members of the crew showed an excellent knowledge of, and a great love for trees. I have no hesitation in hiring Ontree for any tree work I need done.

We did not have access and space for the equipment (machinery) on our premise to have the tree removed, we were given permission from our backyard neighbors to use the open space and driveway. Without missing a beat, he provided me with a reasonable and competitive quote and Nick had his team start working on mine too (my roof is connected to my neighbour's). The team completed both of our roofs with high quality work and professionalism, and were extremely diligent in their clean-up. Then last week, I called Nick again to take a look at what appeared to be an issue with my roof. He actually remembered doing our job (even after 6 years!) and stopped by within 2 hours to take a look. He sent a couple of his guys with their ladder to check it out (it turned out to be a "stray" shingle that blew off of another neighbour's house, and no damage to my roof). My project coordinator, Alex, was unprofessional and difficult to work with. Because the on-site contractors did not speak English, I had to rely entirely on Alex to relay instructions, which led to major misunderstandings. For example, during the installation of a glass shield, it was clear that Alex and the contractors were not on the same page. I immediately called Alex and requested that we hold off on that portion for a couple of days to sort it out. He dismissively told me, "No, we're doing it now." Predictably, the glass was installed with extremely poor quality and would not have lasted a year. While the manager, John, eventually stepped in and replaced it, the situation should have been avoided entirely.Furthermore, I experienced pushback from John early on. I purchased veined tile and wanted to review the layout beforehand to ensure the pattern flowed correctly. Alex told me that the installer, Ethan, only lays tile and does not handle the design or layout. When I tried to oversee this, John accused me of "micromanaging" and told me to just trust their work. Unfortunately, my instincts were correct--the final floor tile layout looks completely uneven and poorly planned.To make matters worse, I was charged an extra $500 to install a floating vanity, which they mounted far too high. I literally have to stand on my tiptoes just to lean over and brush my teeth. When I brought this to their attention, they blamed the issue entirely on the plumbing. I have since had an independent professional inspect it, and they confirmed the plumbing was not the issue at all; it was simply a bad installation.I paid this company in full, but did not get the quality or outcome I was promised.
