Admissions is $5 per person. It is free for children five and younger. There is a free and small parking lot. For approximately 45 minutes, we learned about the history of the castle and how a man persistently and willingly built everything by hand. The stairs are narrow and steep. Each room is uniquely designed. There is an impressive medieval collection of swords, shields, weapons, and armors. Furthermore, there are several picture-worthy spots such as the front of the castle, flower garden, and the room with the swords.

This was such a delight to walk into a Victorian home where the dining area we were sitting in was decked out and I felt like I had walked into a scene of "Downton Abbey." The tea was delicious! All the food was beautifully presented (Unfortunately for those who are gluten and dairy free, make sure you eat beforehand, none of the options cater to those limitations, however they did have fruit kabobs!). The tour of the home was a fun exploration and our tour guide was very informative of the time period and the residents of the home back in the 1800's.

The Taft Museum is the home of former President Taft and was built in the 1820's. It became a…read morepublic museum in the 1930's. There are both permanent exhibits and periodic special exhibits plus a small restaurant and gift shop. During this visit the special exhibit was quilts, and more specifically, quilts made with indigo dyed cloth. Indigo was a prized dye years ago many tears ago and entire plantations all over the world were growing and processing the plants. German scientists eventually developed a synthetic indigo dye that replaced the labor-intensive farming process that had been used for centuries. The Taft is a great place to spend some time. Free parking in their garage under the museum. Admission is $15 for adults; $12 for seniors. Sundays and Mondays are free! Closed Tuesdays.

My family and I ended up here after a dinner out, we had no plans to visit, just came in a whim, and it quite a nice, mild night to do so. Traffic was light, cost was, well, not that low (though I felt the cost didn't match the experience...$25 a car, for a drive that took less than 30 minutes). The lights were beautiful, yet a bit on the minimal side. Held every year, still a nice thing to do with your family, or significant other to "put the cherry on top" of the Christmas holiday. If able to attend, check it out.

The draw for me was the Gee Horton exhibit. It has since closed (as of August 30) but it was beautiful. I did visit the other exhibits while I was there and it took maybe less than an hour to go through the entire museum. I think the cost is pretty standard for a contemporary museum, but I'm not sure if they offer any free admission days as that would be a great incentive to get people in the doors. The staff I encountered were helpful and they also have a coffee shop with plenty of seating on the ground floor.

It was a refreshing spring day, and the flowers were perfectly in bloom during our visit. The conservatory features multiple rooms with impressive plant species, including a room with orchids and a seasonal butterfly display that you could tell they were building up excitement for the following weekend. I was sad that we missed it just by a few days. If you're visiting, I encourage you to save time to walk around the remainder of the park outside of the conservatory. Overall, it's a peaceful and budget friendly activity to pass an hour or so.

It's too bad the butterfly exhibit is over as it seems like a big hit. When I was there it was for the Fall Exhibit "Living Museum of Botanical Splendor". It's really not much but red signage on the ground in one section with little facts of some historical botanical artists. I think for $12 admission is a bit much, more so closer to a $10 experience without the special popular exhibits (which I see they had before the price increase). I might be a bit picky given I've been to other conservatories around the world, my fav being in Okinawa but it's not a fair comparison to North American conservatories. However, it's still a good time, my favourite room is the one with the waterfall. It's architecturally beautiful and with how all the plants are displayed. While something like this back in my city, Toronto, would be free (Allen Gardens), though Toronto's is smaller at the moment. I say this conservatory is still better with the design of this waterfall area but it's not as central as Toronto and requires a drive over from Downtown. There is a spacious parking lot which is a plus. I was kind of bummed the plant shop didn't have much cute items for sale, which is a missed opportunity. They do have like one pot design (with drainage) and they sold 4 inch pots of a common burgundy rubber tree that you can find in big box stores and other knick knacks. The stuff feels a bit uninspiring (like they have a poster (I think) of the feature exhibit "Living Museum of Botanical Spendor", I may be wrong but I just can't see any visitor wanting to buy a poster of that to hang or display that at home and I buy a lot of plant accessories to hang around my office. As a plant collector myself it's nice to see some of the varieties I grow at home thrive and grown massively like the big White Ghost Euphorbia and also to discover some new-to-me plants. The bonsai section was cool, some of the trees have been training since the 1980's! Something that could be passed down through generations.

They have the "Wright in Ohio" photography display of all the Frank Lloyd Wright homes in Ohio, as well as one of the original urns from the restored Wescott House. The "No Such things as Strangers" by Lelia Byron was neat to see, also. My favorite exhibit, though, is the "Chronicles: The Great Depression and the Pandemic" (Covid). A powerful juxtaposition of two historic events our Nation has faced. These photos are so moving. They are working on the North wing, and it should be completed later this month. This museum is a must see if you're passing through! Springfield has a huge support of art and music and that is great to see!
