If you are serious, and want your review changed, then you have to do the access panels as I contacted you to do them. I wasn't going to pay you in full, but you kept assuring me the grout instead of caulk wouldn't be an issue. Until I let everything set up for 48 hours and went to use it. I saw that you left such a minimal grout joint by the pencil molding that it would be an issue. Jerry even let me know you called him and were going to come back. You were supposed to, last February. Is that reasonable? No, and you never came. So the ball is in your court, but as of now I would recommend people look elsewhere. read more

We have used Bruce and Harlan Custom Contracting for a number of jobs including putting up a new fence in our backyard to putting up new siding in our home. With all of the contractors out there we really believe that personal attention to detail, strong/hard work ethic, reliability, expertise in the field and finally, the personal relationship places Harlan Contractors above the rest of his competition. Because Bruce had done some work for us before when we were interested in purchasing a new home we reached out to him. We had just put in a bid for a new home and even though Bruce does not do home inspections we called him in the morning and on the same day he found the time to walk us through our potential new home. He took his time, showed us what was important and showed us what needed improving and he didn't even solicit business from us. He didn't even charge us for his time. This is one example of how Bruce goes above and beyond his job description because his clients are important to him. Without going into too much detail he has done siding for us as well as other important jobs. The work is done on time, the area is never left messy, the work is very professional and there are no surprises with him. One area that unfortunately people tend to abuse is probably his kindness and willingness to continue to work on jobs despite his better judgment only because he has a hard time saying, "no". BE AWARE of getting scammed, and do NOT hire this contractor! He is a master at running a bait-and-switch scheme. I would have rated him below 1 star had that been an option. He misled and defrauded us by more than tripling his plumbing labor costs as a part of what was supposed to be a total remodeling of two bathrooms. The inconsistency in between the project contract we agreed to, and what he ended up charging us was flagrant at best. When we questioned this, his excuse was that he only provided "budgetary costs", that we don't understand how construction works, and that he ultimately wouldn't finish remodeling of the first bathroom unless we pay him upfront for what turned to be more than triple the charge. He also failed miserably to install a standard bathtub sliding glass shower door for which we've spent over $1,100. He tampered with the door, altered it and damaged it in the process of attempting to install it, and then told us he couldn't install it, and that we would have to hire a third party contractor for that. Because the shower door has been altered and damaged, we were neither able to use it nor return it to the retailer for a refund. He also damaged our brand new bathtub in the process of attempting to install the shower door. He damaged our brand new vanity, used the wrong door threshold which was intended for the second bathroom and said that he would order us a replacement for it at no charge, but never did after we paid him in full for all the work that has been done. He had also delayed the work throughout the project, and been unresponsive on so many occasions. He would show up one day, and disappear for several other days before resuming work at his leisure and then expected us to always accommodate him with short, little or no advanced notice whatsoever. This contractor is untrustworthy, unreliable and phony at best. BE AWARE and DO NOT be lured or fooled into hiring him under any circumstances. You'll be totally disappointed and would only end up getting ripped off! read more

My husband and I are very disappointed in the service we received from Harlan Custom Contracting on 3/20/12. We feel we were taken advantage of. Bruce Harlan was asked to install six (12x12) ceramic tile into an existing tile floor, which also included replacing the backerboard as well. We were initially quoted $500, and when I said that sounds high, we were told that the job would take over a half days work possibly close to a full-days work to install 6 tile. Keep in mind the previous tile had already been removed. So then we agreed on $400 cash only based on the fact that I was told how long the job would take. The job took Mr. Harlan 2 hours and 15 minutes. When I questioned Mr. Harlan and told him I felt I was being overcharged and how the job only took just over 2 hours, his explanation was initially it was going to be his worker, he doesn't charge by the hour, and his wife is a stay-at-home mom. Then he agreed he would reimburse me $100.00, but then decided he was not going to do that. After at least 3 requests via in person when he was at my neighbor's house, via text, and via voicemail, I have still not received a receipt for services I paid this company. He was quick all right, but I feel his work was average, being that some corners of 2 out of the 6 tile are sticking up. He has never offered to come back and fix the job, yet he said I was being nit picky. Based on the service I received from this company, I would never recommend them to another person, because integrity mean alot, and Mr. Harlan did not have enough integrity to realize that he overcharged me for a job that I believe he knew all along would only take a couple of hours. read more
