Perhaps out of the way for a few people but it means you get a lot of the locals in there (like myself!) which leads to a very pleasant and jovial ambience to the play. The low wooden beams and moody lighting might be the staple of this chain of pubs but don't let that put you off, this really is in the spirit of traditional old country pubs. The food is pretty good and there's a good selection of lagers bitters and ales on tap for the discerning drinker. The staff and the new management are much improved and very friendly with the punters and won't shy from a bit of joking and banter. The car park is always full, especially on Sundays when people go in for the Sunday roast which if anything is a sign of a successful establishment.

You simply won't find a better place to relax in the city centre. The beers on tap I tried (3) were all fresh and crisp, and there's no doubt in my mind that the rest were, too. Like many old pubs, The Old Windmill is divided into several sections of varying size, so you can have a quiet pint (or three), too. All in all, a first-rate place for CAMRA members and other lovers of real ale. Traditional pub food is available.

I just felt it wasn't fair to keep the old review (below). The main difference now is that children are only allowed until 6pm and the drinks are more expensive. **Previous Review***** It could be worse. They serve a very limited variety of food which I wouldn't like to try considering the lack of cleanliness around the place. It's rather dingy and, while they allow children during the day, I would not often choose to take mine in there. The service is usually pretty friendly though and there are one or two friendly locals although even the friendly ones are usually drunk. It's a good place for those who go out for the sole purpose of getting drunk because that seems to be the sort of people who frequent the place.
