We hired Mr. Riggs to represent my husband after his ex-wife attorney shady dealings. In short my…read morehusband paid a lot of money in child support due to his income. The company laid off almost 50% of the work force and my husband along with it. We lost our house, vehicle and had a total of 4 children to care for. After 14 months of a lot of legal issues to work through we ended up in court to try and get support modified. My husband's income decreased 90% by this time. Paul was unfamiliar with the judge presiding over my husband's case in court downtown in Phoenix. He actually went down about a week before our case just to sit in court and observe how the judge ran his court. Let me tell you, he was simply fantastic in his presentation of the facts and questioning/cross examination techniques. He had my husband's ex's attorney looking like a fool. He has this ability to ask a question and you feel like you are being drilled. But he is professional and not demeaning. The judge sided completely with my husband and in the end SHE ended up owing HIM for over paying from time papers were originally filed. Of course, we never saw any of that. But the satisfaction that we got - if you try to do the right thing with integrity - and that was important to us to find an attorney that had integrity - things work out in the end. And we definitely owed it all to Mr. Riggs.

I would strongly recommend that you look elsewhere for legal representation. Update. He is tightly associated with other Mormon attorneys. If you're on the "outside", you're going to get screwed. He flat told me that he would give me up to keep his association with other Mormon attorneys to keep his "billables" coming in.He literally said, "You have to do what you have to do." The East Valley Family Law community is small. You do what you have to do." Which meant throwing me and my family under the bus, to keep his church standing in good faith. Steer far away from this lawyer. There is an East Valley Hierarchy of Mormon lawyers. They trade favors with Judges and other lawyers to keep their religious affiliations square within their church. Legal and moral issues take a second seat when Mormon lawyers are concerned. Go elsewhere.

I feel like we came to Matt with a hot mess of a situation, but that never seemed to phase him. Matt is attentive, professional, responsive, thorough, honest and a total badass in the court room. He is incredibly fast when it comes to communication and that made things a lot easier on us when we were wanting answers/explanations quickly. Although most things are via video conference right now, watching Matt in front of the judge was amazing and I am sure it would have been even better in an in person setting. To say we are thankful for Matt is an understatement. Hiring him as our attorney was the best decision we ever made. Even if we hadn't won our family case, we knew he did absolutely everything in his power to help us. Of course in the end we did come out on top, but even if we didn't we still were so very pleased with his legal services. Matt is worth every penny spent and we would do it all over again to achieve what we did last week. Thanks again Matt. We are eternally grateful! -Nick & Sam Waclawik

Warning... do not use this guy!!! If I could give a zero review I would. My next step is filing a…read morecomplaint with the Stare Bar of Ariz This has been the absolute worst experience working with Matthew Schultz. Once he received my retainer he gave my case little to no attention and treated me terribly every time we met or talked over the phone. I felt stuck because he had my money and regretted using him after the first few weeks. He has messed up on just about every aspect of my case and instead of explaining why things turned out the way they have he has made up lies to explain them away. It takes multiple emails asking the same questions to get a response and his responses are one word responses and I am lucky to get a complete sentence reply. He has never once returned my call and to get him on the phone you have to call him over and over sometimes for days at a time. He is the most arrogant person I have ever met and has little to no respect for anything or anyone. When he found out my ex and I were Mormons he said "you know that's a cult right" In a harsh tone, and has referred to our religion as a cult on multiple occasion in a disrespectful way. I have had to ask him to please stop talking to me the way he does on several occasions after being personally insulted about my weight and other personal items and including getting emotional about loosing time with my daughter because of his lack of reading emails before responding to the other lawyer. Details of the case: The three things he told me he couple help me with during our first meeting were 1) dividing of assets, 2) child support calculations, and 3) parenting time. All three things he completely messed up on and just agreed to my ex's lawyers request even after Matt and I discussed otherwise. 1. He gave her 100% of several joint assets including a paid off car and a $10,000 grand piano even though we discussed these on several occasion as to why they should be joint 2. He admittedly gave her almost $100 extra in child support each month so I am paying almost $700 for one child even though the calculator shows it should be less. His answer is we can fight this in court afterwards if I want. And of course this will cost more money to do so. 3. He agreed with the other attorney to cut my parenting time in half and when I asked why he would do this he had no clue what I was talking about. I had to show him in the paperwork he agreed to without my permission. He then tried to blame me and I had to beg him to try and fix this error. It wasn't until I got upset and literally broke down to tears that he agreed to file a petition to the judge to set this for trial and of course costing me more money. Run from this guy!

Needless to say, I am very pleased with the outcome, and God forbid I should ever need legal representation again, I am without a doubt going to hire John.

I hired John to represent me in family court for my parenting time, legal decision making, and…read morechild support. I did some research on local lawyers and spoke to him on the phone. Things that I liked right off the bat were the reviews online, his lengthy experience with this type of case and his immediate availability. I rely heavily on reviews so I looked at multiple places for cross referencing and everything seemed to check out.  I did feel like John had my best interest at first and during the process something changed. His attitude changed towards the case as well as this attitude on how he was dealing with me.  I questioned one thing that I was charged for and it seemed like everything after that point completely changed. He started charging for absolutely everything under 'John's fee'. I believe it was something like $35 to forward any email to me, $100 for me to drop documents off at his office. He would sit in his office and tell me stories of his grandkids and of his other clients and I would be charged his $360 hour rate for that time. During the initial meeting we had I remember asking specifically if he had a paralegal that helped with some of the tasks and he mentioned his wife Becky and said she helped out here and there but come-to-find-out he charges "John's rate" for everything that is done.  One of the court virtual meetings John had forwarded me a number to call in. When I got on call the judge asked why I wasn't on video chat. Unfortunately, It made me look unprepared and avoidant, which was not the case by any means.  During our very last hearing John spent hours and hours (based on what I was billed for) preparing for the final case. When we went in, he submitted every text message between my childs father and I (1 years worth) which the opposing counsel skimmed through on their laptop and used multiple parts of MY evidence against me. When evidence was used against me to prove the other sides point, he never reviewed  and clarified any of the statements to the judge. Based on all of the interactions and documentation between my son's father and I this should have been easily swayed in my favor (ex had recent DUI, texts of him guilty of coercion, and multiple examples of contempt of court to name a few things). Instead I walked into that courtroom completely feeling unprepared. The only thing I was told to focus on to prepare for court was "make a timeline of events". I did have a timeline prepared but there are so many other things that would have helped in court that I was completely not prepared for.  In the end, the cost was about 50% more than he had originally quoted me on 'what the case should cost', with no additional court dates or reasons for this to be higher. About a week after receiving the judgement I had emailed John asking if he knew why my ex would get to claim my son for 3 consecutive years on taxes, he has just completely ignored my email and why the judgement was so far in his favor. He just completely ignored me. I just wanted to put my experience out there because if i would have read a current review that was honest and stated these types of behaviors I may have not trusted all of these perfect reviews that this lawyer has. I just feel like in the end he did not do me justice, I'm not sure he really cared much if my case went well or not. In some cases experience isn't everything. I don't like feeling taken-advantage-of so I hope this helps someone out there who may weigh heavy on the reviews, like I do. Kindly,
