My wife and I ordered 11 stair treads and 3 landing risers from this company. The turnaround was pretty good as we submitted the order 1/28/25 and received it 2/13/25. Immediately on receiving the order we opened it and were really disappointed to see the 11 treads we ordered were all the wrong material. The 3 landing treads are awesome but the 11 treads were not right. Then we realized if we flip them over, the underside of the treads is correct. However, the issue is that the treads we got are clearly not a full bullnose. There is a square edge profile on one side of these treads. Clearly there is a top vs. bottom with the bottom being the square edge profile. However, the live sawn side of the boards has the square edge profile which is meant to be the bottom -- the square edge facing up is now how stairs should be. It seems someone in the millwork shop accidentally put these through the router table upside down using something like a 7/8" router bit? The other thing I think that happened is they did put a full bull nose but then someone put the treads through a planer which resulted in the square edge on the finished side. Either way, these are defective treads. I took the time to make a video to explain this and sent it to the customer service email but I don't really feel like they watched it. They claimed all of their treads use a full bull nose but as you can see on these attached photos (my wife and I traced the nose) the treads have a square edge profile on the top of the tread. This isn't a simple fix like sanding down the square profile -- that just will not work. Also, they can't be re-routed without the depth being reduced to closer to 10" which also won't work. We ordered 10.5" deep treads. We just want to get what we paid for. The only way to fix this problem is to remake the treads correctly with a full bull nose or with this nose profile facing rounded side up. I sent additional photos over to customer service and I'm hoping that they'll do the right thing and send us a replacement order on Monday. If the company stands behind its warranty around defective products (these treads are defective) and sends us a new order on Monday, I'll consider this a 5-star company and update this review accordingly. However, based on seeing these surprisingly bad Yelp reviews I don't have much confidence and if they choose to not address this issue I'll issue a chargeback with American Express. read more

I was so nervous because of the bad reviews but I am very happy with the results so I had to weigh in for these folks. The online ordering worked great and I was able to submit a diagram of how I wanted it cut. Some sides needed a straight cut, others bullnose and the sink was off-center so we needed to be on the same page before they started cutting. They contacted me right away to confirm the diagram details and after a few emails back and forth they started work. I was comfortable with the process and confident it would come out well after working with them. I went for the CNC cut of the sink and polly satin finish. It came out great! From the day I ordered it took about a month but now has saved me a lot of prep work and time. The sink is ready to be mounted. The packing was a pallet so it was very well protected. they also gave me the cutout so I have a project with my daughter to make a cutting board with it. I ordered walnut butcher block from this company after looking at the pictures and reviews on their website. Unfortunately what we received is shockingly different from the pictures. As you can see from the picture on their website, the butcher block is compose of mixture of more uniform lighter colored sapwood with dark heartwood walnut. What we received is low quality very light sapwood. What we basically received is a *zebra* butcher block. I gullibly believed their five star ratings on their website, thinking that it was open reviews. Apparently they *screen* the reviews and uploads only the good ones. Scums. I should have checked Yelp! reviews before I ordered. This is follow up review after talking to them: The kicker is that this vendor thinks there is absolutely nothing wrong with this butcher block, whereas when we first saw the product, we all said "Oh my gosh! What is this?" To make a long story short, it is who they are. Their standard is so low, nothing seem to bother them. We are now looking at other vendors to replace this countertop. read more

Let me start by saying I have been in the design/building trades for 57 years. This is the first time that my submitted drawings have been followed down to a 1/16 of an inch. When we received the Butcher Bock Countertop I measured it against my drawing...it was a perfect match to my drawings. This made the installation fast and easy; no trimming or sanding to make it fit!! And the workmanship and wood was perfect! Additionally, the wood was high quality and required very little sanding preparation. My client is very happy with their counter top. When the need arises I will order again. This company is not to be trusted. They misrepresented how they cut the lumber. The initially stated that the wood was one slab and 3 weeks later changed to saying they were gluing it together and that gluing boards together is a lengthy process for them. They subsequently lied multiple times about lead times stating week after week that it was almost ready to ship via their emails. If you have an inquiry about something you ordered, the computer phone puts you on hold to listen to your propaganda for 30 minutes and sends you to voicemail without answering. The only way they answer the phone is if you go to sales. They have not delivered their product so far twice as long so far as promised delivery date for unfinished and unrouted walnut lumber boards. People running this company have no shame. read more

Unfortunately, agree with other reviewers. Lead time was worse than advertised, and then there were additional shipping delays and miscommunications that they did not take responsibility for. As a result, we had to hire workers to hang around waiting for the slabs, only to have them not delivered. Happened three times. read more

Despite of the bad reviews, it was quite the opposite for us. Even after them losing their main building to a fire disaster, we received our butcher block a few weeks later. We could not be happier and we definitely recommend this company! read more

I was excited to have found their site. I called and their system was not allowing calls to go through... This happens, so I gave it another go, and called a few days later, and again a couple a days after that - left 2 messages - no return calls? I wrote them 2 emails - no replies? I love their website, but cannot get any reply from the company in over 2 weeks - Hard to believe this is an actual business. How can you trust in such a business that seems so disinterested. I have given up trying to connect with them. read more

I was skeptical to order from here given some past reviews but went ahead and ordered 3 cypress wide plank countertops & 3 backsplashes, all unfinished. Order was delayed by a week due to an unfortunate fire that they experienced. Placed order on 3.2.23 and received 3.24.23, so no complaints on timing considering they had to redo my order. Order was received in 4 separate boxes and packed just fine with no damage to any materials. The material and workmanship is perfect. read more

Communication upon ordering is very poor. I thought I had asked what seemed to be a million questions before ordering, but apparently I didn't ask enough. The sales rep was timely with communication, but lacked information. After waiting 6 weeks for our custom cabinet top and shelves, we opened to what looked like amazing pieces! The one draw back...there were stickers stained into the wood on one side. We had shelves built that are floating and now, we have stickers showing on one side. We paid a lot of money and it's very disappointing to know this company wont do anything to compensate us for this trouble. The miscommunication that happened: The sales rep did note in an email that an "unfinished piece" has one good side; however, we received a "finished" piece, so figured all sides would be "finished." This wasn't the case, so if you are wanting your piece of wood to have 2 "good" sides, please make sure you notate this! (FYI: you apparently pay extra for 2 good sides). read more

***Buyers Beware - Buyers Beware*** Please do not buy anything from this so called reputable well rated company.   They will string your order along for months all the while feeding you different lies and more lies every time you talk to them.   Worst experience I have ever had with any company.   Even the poor girl that attempted to help me no longer works there.  Gee I wonder why, I am sure that she was fielding pissed of clients all day long and gave up and packed her bags!!   Just to give you an idea.  Ordered a $1k plus dollar counter top on July 5th 2020, just cancelled my order today October 12, 2021 since they obviously could not deliver (as you can tell I truly tried to give them the benefit of the doubt). Just wanted 4 months for nothing.   What a shame seems like they have nice products, unfortunately I will never know.   SERIOUSLY FOLKS STAY AWAY FROM THIS ONE AT ALL COSTS!!!!!! read more

Overpriced and when the product finally arrived it looked nothing like the wood on their website. IT IS HALF GREEN. It is also two pieces of wood made into one, hence the half green and half walnut. I found them rude, I hated the product for the price and when I asked to return they ignored the request for a box. Avoid!!! read more

We ordered 15 stair treads, 6 left return treads, 2 landing treads , 2 turning treads that were to be cut diagonally and 1 large turning tread . We ordered these online and paid in full upfront on April 26. We finally received a shipment yesterday, June 29th . The winding treads and 2 turning treads were missing . The 2 winding treads received were cut so incorrectly and 1.5 inches shorter than our order form. we were scheduled to close on our home June 28th with the completion of the stairs part of the contract - due to the delay there was a $974 lender required fee that had to be paid to delay the closing until July 8. we are now being told by Maria they will try to ship by next Tuesday, July 6; which means we won't even receive them prior to the closing date. what is going on here read more

I cannot say enough about how disappointed I am with this company right now. I contacted them for a desk project I wanted to build and explained the details. The person I spoke to was very helpful in explaining the details of their operation and helped me pick the right solution for my project. They instructed me to contact them via email, so they could get me a custom quote for my project. I did this and received a detailed quote within 24 hours of my request. Great so far! Then the "other shoe" dropped. I outlined back to that written quote exactly what I wanted to order based on their directions and asked how to proceed. I was told that they would be happy to take my order, but the price would be 50% higher than the written quote. This difference was attributed to the referenced edge finishes being almost 10 times more expensive than quoted in the email. Additionally, there would be almost $200 in shipping charges that would be added to my order. This is after the email clearly stated that shipping was via freight shipping and explained what my responsibilities would be when it arrived. It also stated that I could upgrade my shipping, but that would be an additional cost. I find this entire experience very disappointing. I asked to speak to the manager and her response was that they made a mistake and were sorry, but they would not be able to honor the initial quote. The idea that a written quote for a project that clearly states it is good for 30 days is able to be dismissed due to convenience is remarkable. How is a consumer supposed to trust a business that will not stand by their written word? I cannot help but believe this was bait and switch advertising! read more

So, they accepted my return, but really no acknowledgment of wrongdoing. Emma apologized for ME not being satisfied and said that it would darken when finished. I responded that I was doubtful it would darken more than a light pink color and no one wants a pink countertop and she'd be more believable if I hadn't received the first countertops that had the nice shades of red. I received a stale countertop that was closer to a white.... This place disgusts me. NEVER AGAIN. There are plenty of better companies out there than this trash. read more

I ordered over $1000 in stair parts AFTER getting a sample. Well, the sample was perfect, but the parts they sent are complete JUNK. I'm not one to write reviews often, but Hardwood Lumber Company's excellent customer service is worth acknowledging. I ordered a Walnut End Grain Butcher Block Cutting Board about a year ago as a gift. About a week ago the board surprisingly cracked, after being well cared for over the past 11 months. I contacted customer service about their repair and/or replacement policy and they got back to me in a timely manner. They not only offered to replace the board, but recommended and offered to ship a better quality and more expensive board. I would highly recommend purchasing products from this company. I will certainly continue to purchase products from here because of this wonderful experience! read more

Ordering from this company left a lot to be desired. The wood we received was nice but was delivered damaged (not surprising since this piece was not packed well and unfortunately because of timeline we could not wait for a new piece as the first took so long to arrive). After going back and forth in emails for sometime with Martha Mae essentially arguing about which side is the finished side, they refunded me 50% for one damaged piece. It took a really long time to ship and communication from the time of order was very poor. I had to make a habit of every few weeks checking in on the status. None of the wood is sustainable either which was a major bummer. If we did it again, we would find a different company to order from. read more

product was damaged, they offered a prompt refund or to rush shipping. They handled it well

I would have to disagree with the other reviewer! I got a sample of my wood so I knew exactly what it would look like. Worth the $20 extra. The counters were gorgeous when they arrived. I would have given 5 stars, but they made a small error with one of the shelves I ordered to match the counters. They quickly resolved the problem, and no one is perfect, so I would certainly recommend them. Great price and amazing quality. read more

They charge a great deal for shipping, but they do not know how to package their products to protect them from damage in shipment. Ordered a large cutting board (weight about 38 lbs) and it was shipped in a single layer cardboard box with only a 1/8" layer of packing material. Not surprisingly, all corners were damaged as was the flat surface, as a result of FedEx dropping the package countless times. They sent a replacement, packed just as inadequately and, not surprisingly, it was damaged on the corners and surfaces again. For a $370 cutting board and a $42 shipping fee, one might expect proper packaging for shipment. I had planned to make more orders, but they don't know how to pack heavy materials for shipment. Do not order anything that weighs more than 1 lb! read more

Seems Hardwood Lumber Company gets a lot of complaints about two things: How long it takes to ship ~ one month, and stickers on the bottom side that say bottom side. Both are true. But... The product is awesome and the price is excellent. They also take great care in packaging. I got stickers too. Since I had unfinished product and was to sand anyway, the stickers peeled off and the marks sanded away without issue. They might could come up with some sort of non-marking adhesive for the stickers, but other than that, if you can wait for delivery, it's worth it. read more

Careful when order online from This company. I order (and pay in full) stair steps on 06/01 with a promise of 2 week delivery time. If you want something on time this isn't the place. They do good work so far but you could grow a tree faster than getting your order complete and shipped to you. I ordered from them in 2019 Sept. I was told 5 weeks. It was six weeks and no shipped ordered. I had clled them every other day. The customer service lady said the finishing department was behind. It must have been the end of the six week and I was upset. Customer service lady went back to verifiy my order was finally being shipped. We ordered the hickory stair treads. The website clearly shows a variation in the pattern of the wood and even a few reviews showed the same thing. When the shipment arrived it looked nothing like the pictures representing the product. I took a tread to a local woodworker in my area and his professional opinion is that the treads were clear hickory, not what they are showing on their website, and what we thought we ordering, the number 2 hickory. I have reached out to have it corrected without any success. They admit they sent clear hickory in one email and then turn around and say they only have two different types of hickory, hickory, and rustic hickory but we received neither but rather clear hickory that looks nothing like our floor or their website pictures. At this point, I am just going to probably paint the treads and lose 1800.00 on the deal. My advice is to go to a local cabinet shop and have whatever you want to be made. This company does not care about customer satisfaction. I've been a carpenter for 30 years and have never been treated so badly over something like this. read more

Be very careful about ordering from this company. They do not stand behind their products. I ordered a walnut countertop that arrived warped, not fully sanded and pink in color.
