Caution for Victoria-area customers. Google still lists Harbour Door at their old Vic West address, but they now operate out of Langford -- and they bill travel time from there at their full service rate ($180 / hr), plus a fuel surcharge (mine was $30 for 22km roundtrip), none of which was mentioned when I booked.
I called them in May for a snapped garage door spring, choosing them in part because their listing showed them minutes from my home. The technician was on site for 42 minutes, confirmed by my driveway camera. The invoice came to 1.25 hours at $180 per hour: a one-hour minimum for the job, plus 15 minutes of drive time from Langford at the same rate. On top of that, a $30 fuel surcharge for a 22 km trip and a $15 shop supplies fee (as far as I could tell, the visit involved tightening a few bolts and perhaps adding a couple of new ones).
The repair itself failed within two days. The spring disc slipped and the door was unusable over a long weekend until a second technician came out and corrected the installation. The technicians were courteous and professional on both visits, and my complaint is not with them. But the part costs under $200, and the final bill was $491.40 for work that had to be done twice.
I wouldn't trust this company. My experience was a gross travel overcharge, the next could be something else. read more
