I have been treated by Dr Mike O'Donnell on many occasions (and a couple of the others when Mike has been away) for several different injuries and after several different surgeries. He has proven time and time again that he is great at not only what he does, but at training his staff as well. Wendy Shiga has been a top notch physical therapist from day one. i had reverse shoulder replacement surgery and I was actually afraid to use my arm at all. Wendy gave me confidence to do so and more. Her deep massage technique has given me such relief from the pain. She, instinctively, knows what areas to work. She says I am responding well and continues to advance my progress with a higher degree of resistance. I called this facility & asked abt the services they provide & if they can contact my insurance for me to know exactly how much is my copay. I have an MD referral for PT & I also want to use my chiro & massage insurance benefits. Lady told me that I should check my insurance myself & beginning March, clients are to contact their own insurance to know their benefits because it is too much work for them to be doing that. I told the lady I know my benefits & my co-insurance, but I do not know how much you charge, and I want to know how much is my out of pocket because I am not coming in for a 10x PT session, but more than 2x a week for a long time, possibly the whole 2022. Lady said I have to come in for an assessment before she can call my insurance and let me know the out of pocket. LADY is lazy, she should be fired. My benefit from my insurance includes 125 combined PT, OT and speech therapy. Aside from the provision for massage, chiro and others. My MD referred me to a specific PT facility, but I am shopping around because I plan to use all of my benefits & is looking for the least out of pocket for me. All the other PT facilities I called first asked for my insurance info before entertaining more questions. When they call me back, they were able to provide out of pocket costs. I've never before written a health provider review, but I felt compelled in this particular case. My primary doctor referred me to Harbor PT for issues with my neck, low back and sciatica. My doctor felt that the owner, Michael O'Donnell "knows his stuff." However, when I started PT there in early 2014, I was assigned therapist Alice Wang, rather than O'Donnell. Although I eventually introduced myself to O'Donnell, I was never treated or evaluated by him. All the office staff and therapists were nice and, to varying degrees, knowledgeable. But, early on, I noticed that they would tend to over-book, where they would be treating too many patients at one time. Sometimes one therapist would make an exercise technique suggestion that would run counter to what Wang had suggested and I had to correct him or her. Even when I was having a hands-on treatment from Wang, she would often be very distracted with other patients in the room. Nonetheless, I carried on, including following their home excerscise prescriptions to the letter. My in-office therapy went OK until week seven, where I suffered a huge flare-up in my sciatica a few hours after treatment. The pain/discomfort was incredibly higher than I've ever experienced before. Those symptoms deceased a bit in the next week and a half. But in week nine, I had another major flare-up, which has become chronic and life altering. Where I could once walk vigorously for over an hour, I can now walk only 10 or so minutes without discomfort or pain. Standing in one place, to make a sandwich in the kitchen or water the plants in the garden, which before could be a minor problem, is all of a sudden impossible. Alice Wang and Harbor PT have refused to take any responsibility for my horrendous outcome, even suggesting to my primary doctor that the problem might have occurred outside of PT. I wholeheartedly believe this is not the case, as I did nothing else on those therapy days that provoked any low-back pain that could cause a sciatica flare-up. In fact, post-therapy activity on those two flare-up days was very light. Also, if you're still interested in treatment there, be aware that the parking is often impossible. I have at least one door ding to prove it. read more

I have been going to PT since the early 90s for various injuries. I've had therapists tell things such as, "You'll never run long distance again, you'll never run on cement, etc." Mike O'Donnell would tell me, "You've got a lot of things wrong, but you're salvageable." I feel he is as good a sports psychologist as he is PT. I've been to see him a few times, and enjoyed his holistic, slow approach to fixing problems that took a while to develop. He is not above new theories or referring to specialists either to get more input. Simply put--he just wants you to get better or to a better point than you were. Last summer I did a half-Ironman. A couple weeks ago I ran 21 miles. Before seeing Mike I was lucky if I could run three miles. I feel indebted to him and to the entire staff--I've made some friendships along the way. Everyone is always friendly and wants the best for the patients, including the front desk staff who have always been kind to me. I probably don't deserve that since I procrastinate on paying my bills... Anyway, going to Harbor PT is like going to family. read more
