We arrived a hair after 7pm on a Friday. It's Wisconsin, so, we came here for 1 reason... 2 if you…read morecount the apple pasty I forgot to get to go... FISH Sadly, they were already out if bluegill, which was my planned order- i panic ordered perch. I should have gotten cod. Fish have bones & you're bound to find a few - but I'm pretty sure one of the filets had more bones than meat. The breading was spotty with large areas not breaded & half the fish was, well, fishy. I (along with 3/4 of the table) appreciated the option to get German Potato Salad or Potato Pancakes instead of the standard fries. The buttered marble rye was also a hit with most. I stopped eating the perch on piece 2 of 4. I went to the potato pancakes, which were pretty good, as was the German Potato Salad. The coleslaw was ok. While I'm not mad at $80 after tip. Service was alright. Water was filled once empty. Bill was brought out promptly. No mention of dessert & I spaced it out. Since we're now 2hrs away... oops

We finally got a table after a 1/2 hour wait, we looked at their website before deciding to eat here, so we knew what we wanted. They brought our order, it was wrong, they gave us 2 brat pasties. My wife hates cheddar cheese, they tried to make it right. Watch out for overcharge on extras? like marinara sauce and cheddar cheese dip, these should be included, as gravy is included. A dollar more for the sweet potato fries, than shown in the menu. Nice personality, just why do this is tourists and tourism. Good pasties, but at a cost.

Sometimes they have a golden bloody Mary, which is made with yellow tomatoes this also very tasty. A bonus is that you can choose any beer on tap for your chaser. Get the burger and truffle fries. If you have room for it, the cheese soup is divine.

The Horse and Plow is a great spot if you have a group or family where noise is not a bug but a feature. We came here on our second evening around 7:00 for dinner. Food: The menu has a good selection of beverages and pub-style food. There is an extensive list of whiskeys, including bourbon and rye, lots of beers, and some specialty cocktails. We settled on a draft beer and the Plum Crazy cocktail, which was super yummy. For food, they offer appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches, and a fish fry. There is even a Wagyu flat iron steak if you are interested in paying $75. We decided on the Double Butter Smashburger with truffle fries and the Walleye Fish Fry. The burger was good, although it could have been cooked a bit more to create more caramelized edges. The bun was good, but a bit too much bread for me, so I ate it open-faced. The truffle fries were delicious and could have been a meal in themselves. The walleye was battered and breaded with good texture, and the fish was flaky. I felt it was a bit overcooked, and the last several bites were very tough. Service: We did not have a reservation, and there were no tables available when we arrived. We took a spot at the bar, where the bartender got us an order of drinks. The service, both at the bar and at the table, was efficient but not especially friendly or outgoing. The food came out nice and hot, waters were kept full, and the check arrived promptly after the meal was finished. For those looking for a pub experience, this is a good spot. However, being at the American Club, I think I was looking for more of an elevated experience. This felt more like a place for a quick meal than somewhere I would feel compelled to return to. Atmosphere: It is a pub, and that is exactly what you get. It was very noisy at times, especially as larger groups were enjoying themselves.
