I was confused as this was the first I heard of it. Something felt off, and I indicated I was going to speak with my perio. I told them later I was going to get a 2nd opinion. I got a call from the dentist shortly afterward. Good on her for calling quickly and not sending it to someone else. The dentist proceeded to lecture me that because the hygenist was wearing a mask, there was no way I could know she was agitated. She was defending her employee, fair enough, but I know human body language, and I knew what her stance meant. There was no uncertainty. I had a better experience with the new dentist. She saw me shaking in the chair with anxiety from my previous experience, and with compassion, she quickly indicated that it's not as bad as it was made out to be, and we have just discussed a plan with my perio. Because of the trauma from here, I NOW require nitrious at any and all appointments out of fear of being made to feel pain with zero compassion.

The good part...when I contacted City Square for records, x-rays and my treatment plan I received a form letter to sign for a release AND a $20.00 charge. Really?? I know I had only spent about $3,000, but it seemed like it might be a courtesy to send them. That is when the backpedaling and lies began. Now I felt like I was dealing with a used car lot. So my recommendation to you is absolutely ask every possible question. Another person who works in the field told me they absolutely do not take insurance. I will not trust again. I called Aspen dental ahead and let them know of my severe anxiety and they assured me they understood and that I could have my husband with me the entire time. I had x-rays, a full digital mouth scan, met with the hygienist, the doctor, the coordinator, and had a full deep cleaning. I was there for three hours and never had a panic attack or felt one coming. They listened to me about my concerns and thoroughly answered all of my many questions. I have to go back for some procedures and I'm not even worried. They truly made me feel cared for, and I love that the staff is primarily women. Everyone is so knowledgeable, kind, and supportive. Because of her incompetence, I had to go through a full retreatment with another dentist -- 6 long visits, each involving high doses of anesthesia -- just to fix the mess she left behind. I even had to take 6 days off work and pay $3,750 out of pocket. To make it worse, the clinic has now removed her name from their website, pretending like she never existed. Zero accountability, zero apology, zero concern for the patient. I've attached before and after photos and proof of the amount I paid for retreatment. The difference speaks for itself. If you care about your health, time, and money, do not trust this clinic. They'll cost you more than you can imagine.

Spacious, modern, super clean, equipped with the latest and greatest technology, professional staff, and the doctor who is a dental guru. The equipment includes instant x-ray that pops up on the computer screen while it's being taken, whole jaw spin-around-your-head x-ray machine, waiting room with TV, computers, gourmet coffee machine, fridge with drinks - you name it. And once again the doctor is a real pro, knows his stuff, and is able to explain things in plain English. So what is the problem? Well, I came to them because big part of my tooth broke off. I wanted it patched. I got the x-rays taken (all of them and then some) and... I got talked into... cleaning. I had it done a couple times in the past and since it's been a while I figured - it can't hurt to do it again. My mistake was I did not ask for the price. And part of why I am so upset - the quote or proposal was not offered. To make a long story short - the doctor told me that the tooth that broke should be removed because the x-ray shows decay and it will only get worse. I considered it as he seems to know what he is talking about but only until I got my bill. It was close to three thousand dollars! For cleaning!!! (well, the x-rays too I guess, plus some super expensive anti-biotics - to be fair). Oh, and most importantly - the cleaning WAS NOT done by the doctor - but by a hygienist of course. Had I had a chance - I would have declined. But there was no quote, no estimate - no indication something so ridiculous is coming. In the past I paid $170 and $220 for the cleaning and I was not even remotely expecting this. After I voiced my disappointment and explained that I will be paying myself the price was reduced to about a thousand dollars. Which is still five times more than I expected. I am not stupid and I understand - the price included the fancy x-rays, the doctor's analysis and diagnostic, the pricey antibiotics and the cleaning itself. But still, had I known I would have declined - even for the thousand dollars. It was obscene and preposterous of them to do that and not tell me how much it will cost. And the original price - what the hell was that about? Well, I had to go to another dentist to patch my broken tooth - which was done for $300. To be fair - I was advised to remove it too, but I chose not to. Summarizing - if you have deep pockets or fancy high limits dental insurance - this is probably an awesome place to go - as you will most likely receive top notch dental care. But if you have to pay significant portion of the bill yourself be forewarned - you may go bankrupt. At least be smarter than I was and demand a quote BEFORE you let them touch you.

At no point was I informed that this visit would involve a dental evaluation or that any additional fees would be incurred. Upon arrival Dr. Dano immediately began promoting his own dental device, claiming it was superior to the one I currently use. He then proceeded to perform -without my request or consent- a dental evaluation. Following this unsolicited evaluation he informed me that all my silver fillings needed to be removed and that additional caps were necessary, totaling an estimated cost of $7630. I left the appointment without the adjustment I came for, confused, concerned, and extremely disappointed. I sought a simple adjustment, not a sales pitch or an unrequested dental evaluation. Shortly afterward, I received a bill for $225 for a "dental evaluation", which I never requested, approved, or was informed would take place. When I questioned the charge, the office manager responded rudely and stated that if I did not pay the bill, they would pursue the matter in small claims court- adding that they have never lost. The threatening tone and lack of professionalism were completely unacceptable. Had I been informed in advance that a fee would be charged for a dental evaluation, I would not have scheduled the appointment. TRANSPARENCY REGARDING COSTS AND PROCEDURES IS A FUNDAMENTAL ETHICAL STANDARD IN HEALTH CARE. Bull Valley Dentistry failed to uphold this standard, and in my experience, did not act with transparency, informed consent, or professional courtesy. I have filed complaints with the American Dental Association and Better Business Bureau. I believe patients deserve to be treated honestly and respectfully, and no practice should be allowed to mislead or pressure patients into unnecessary services or surprise billing. I do feel fortunate that I am only out $225. Please consider another opinion before letting Bull Valley Dentistry be your dentist.

If you haven't been to the dentist lately or are afraid, Dr. Farr would be the dentist to go to. Dr. Farr is very compassionate, has a calming effect, experienced, professional, patient, he explains things and dedicated to providing you with the highest standard of dental care. He really cares about his patient's. I can see why, Dr. Michael Farr was voted 2015's Best Dentist in Huntley IL and Voted Top General Dentist in Barrington IL in 2016. Appointments are frequently being changed or rescheduled, which is extremely frustrating and inconvenient. We have to pay a $75 if we don't cancel an appointment in time, but it's okay for them to not uphold their appointments. The office manager is so aggressive and forces patients to click on the link to give a 5 star review and has even tried grabbing the phone out of my husbands hands after he refused to do it.
