Let me start off by saying, THE WORKERS DO NOT WEAR MASKS. NONE OF THEM. They are operating as if COVID-19 is not an extremely serious health hazard by putting their customers at risk. There is a sign outside that states, "Some of our employees do not wear a face mask because of exceptions (as stated in the state mask mandate). If you feel uncomfortable entering, we completely understand." At least that was prefaced, right? But, I have travelled up and down the entirety of the East coast during the COVID-19 pandemic, and this is the first food place I have seen that does not have ANY of its staff members wearing masks. At the least, wear your mask below your nose. Is that way just as effective as wearing your mask properly to prevent COVID-19? NO. But at least it shows respect towards your customers and that you care about their safety.
I did not like the customer service at this establishment. The customer service in the South is impeccable, and this establishment was severely lacking. There was no enthusiasm and no sincerity shown by its workers, they were just there doing their job and clearly wanted to get out ASAP. There was a lady who came in 7 minutes after closing asking for a to-go order, and this establishment refused to serve her. Literally all they had to do was put cupcakes that were already not going to be used (they make their cupcakes fresh daily) into a box, which would have taken an extra 2 minutes at MOST. Moorehead City is one that thrives during the summertime and during the off-season, it relies heavily on its local community. So, it's shocking to me that a small place like this wouldn't go out of their way to serve a customer who was clearly SO excited to buy a couple of cupcakes.
The cupcakes were extremely overpriced and not that good, either. They were recommended to me by a local, so we tried them but were completely unimpressed. While it's cool that this place won on an episode of Cupcake Wars, I truly wondered how, as I could make cupcakes just as good on my own. I'm not a professional baker, but I am skilled, and these were definitely not out-of-this world. The Hummingbird flavor was delicious, but I paid $12 for 3 cupcakes. Those are New York City/San Francisco prices, not North Carolina prices.
The lack of care towards their customers really off put me and I would not recommend anyone going here who cares about their health because they are putting their customers at risk by not wearing masks. If the employees even as much as get their temperatures checked daily, at least state that information somewhere in the store. But that was nowhere to be found, which shows me the workers simply do not want to wear masks because they can get away with it under North Carolina regulation. You can see the countless other Yelp reviewers who have stated the same thing in their reviews, and I've yet to see this company reply back to any one of us. Because they do not care about their customer. Do not waste your hard-earned money here and find another cupcake place, one that won't put your life at serious risk which could potentially lead to death. read more
