Was looking for a spot for dinner. Read over a few reviews and decide to come. Definitely don't let the outside fool you! The food is all that mattered and they did a great job. Very small facility with about 10 tables. Everything was made fresh as well as they didn't skimp on the food. The portion sizes were big as well as the drinks. Prices are fair and your definitely going to run into a few groups of friends out having a good time. It's definitely a little hidden gem. If I'm ever back in town I'll be back!

Steak chimichanga with rice and lunch fajitas.

It was delicious. The only bad thing I can say is maybe the steak chimichanga had too much gristle. Otherwise it was SOOO good.

Warm chips and hot salsa

I was out for a motorcycle ride and started craving bad beer and good tacos. Mile after mile with nothing, and I was starting to get desperate. Then I came across this oasis in the desert. The bright colors of the building in the bars on the window let me know immediately that I was in the right place. I went inside, and the Happy Donkey was about half full, with not a single English word being spoken; more confirmation I was in the right place. I sat at the bar and ordered two tacos and two gorditas. The complimentary chips were warm with homemade salsa. The hot salsa was spicy but not overwhelming. The bartender must've sensed that I was able to handle spicier food and gave me a green sauce with my tacos that was amazing. The chicken tacos were full of meat, but I would say the chicken was a bit overdone. The beef gorditas, on the other hand, deserve their own special spot in heaven. I could've eaten 10 of those, but as I say that I remember I wasn't able to finish the food that was on my plate. The only real downside was it was Sunday and they don't serve alcohol on Sunday. So I still didn't get my beer.

This is one of my favorite go to local authentic Mexican restaurants. Good atmosphere and fresh food.

Tomato juice and chips with salsa

Very nice little Mexican cuisine dive in Anderson. Wonderful service, hot chips, good salsa and accommodating me with tomato juice for my beverage. The fish soup had a variety of ingredients snd was very good. Will return for sure.

Visited several times. Worth returning for the food - carnitas and "avocado salad" are my favorites, and are consistently good.
