I was gifted a Mother's Day massage by my son, who had used Groupon. I attempted to make an appt by phone and couldn't get thru, so I drove there. The location on Virginia Beach Blvd had closed and the sign indicated they had a new location, Hilltop. So, I drove over there to make an appt, since apparently they weren't answering the phone. When I arrived, I was shocked to find they weren't in business! I was pretty upset as you can imagine. I never told my son as he was underway with other things to worry about. I kept waiting for them to reopen, something, but was never able to get in contact with them. I'll never use them after the scam I encountered. The water was freezing cold, the aesthetician didn't wear gloves, the equipment did not look clean and I didn't see anyone clean the equipment between clients either. Saw this place on Groupon $30 for mani/pedi. I needed a fill in so I was told $15 extra. Ok. I come in at 12:50 (appointment at 1) and she then told me $10 to take gel polish off. She said because it is hard to take off gel polish. I then said I would leave & come back after I take the polish off. We agreed on 2pm. I come back at 2 & I was then asked to wait 30 min. I waited. After 35 min I went to front desk to ask if they were ready for me. Lady didn't speak English. After 45 min I was taken to a chair and the pedi was relaxing. However she stopped several times to go to front desk & help other people because they were clearly overbooked. When it came to my mani, she cut my fingers with the tool several times. Found out about this place from Groupon (1 hr. foot massage for $22). Kevin did a great job on my feet. Before the massage, I had a foot soak for a few minutes. The massage itself lasted about 50 minutes. Hot towels concluded the massage. All in all, from start to finish it was an hour. Kevin listened very well to my pressure requests. The spa had a special $30 special for manicure and pedicure. Kevin did a wonderful job, too! I still got a foot massage during the pedicure (score!) I asked him to scrub my heels a little more and he obliged (no attitude or anything). My nails look great. While my nails were drying, he gave me a quick shoulder rub. I saw this salon as a Groupon deal for a couples massage, 60 minutes for 60 bucks. I think its normally 50 for an hr and after reading mostly positive reviews online,I thought it was a good deal as a birthday gift for my sister. We arrived on time and checked in, we werent asked about gender prefence or really anything. We were escorted to the room and waited about 30-35 minutes for the massages to start. So we're waiting and finally two massuese come in an older man and a woman, initially the woman goes over to my sister but she ended up switching with a younger guy. I assumed they may ask a couple questions such as problem areas or pressure preference but NOPE, they just dove right in. From the beginning my massuse was applying way too much pressure, but for the first couple minutes I just tried to grit and bear it. After a couple painful sounding grunts he did inquire as to if I was okay, when I would tell him No and that it was too hard for me, he acted as if he didnt understand. The younger guy translated what I was saying but it never seemed to register. At one point i sat up and told him it was too rough and joked that he was strong and maybe it would be better if a woman could replace him, the room went silent, no changes. So basically the whole hour was painful, though he did ask if I was okay multiple times. Today, (one day later) my whole upper back is pretty bruised up. My sister enjoyed her massage (and since it was her birthday, that was the main concern) but also text me this morning that her shoulders felt bruised. They showed up at their appointment slot today to redeem the Groupns. I was highly irritated when they returned home and told me how they were inappropriately treated upon arrival when attempting to use the Groupons. One employee even tried to get them to pay again on site for the services prepaid via Groupon. Please educate your staff on what Groupons are and how to professionally treat ALL customers presenting them. Additionally, it comes off as demeaning to pressure customers to pay a tip by letting them know up front "we work for tips" especially following the Groupon situation. Tips are optional and rendered by choice in appreciation and/or acknowledgement for good service(s). Although my teens liked the manicure and pedicure first impressions go a long way. Today you could have gained two young influential returning customers and potentially their mom and her circle of influence. My fiance and I came here to get a couples massage. I requested a woman for me, but there wasn't one available. We get into the room and only one of the "massage therapists" spoke English and she barely spoke it. I put quotes around massage therapist because I really don't think these people are certified. As we begin the session, it felt more like a rub down than a Swedish Massage. I am not a fan of deep tissue massages, but what I received felt more like an old man just getting his feel on. I wasn't by any means disrespected, but never did he ask me if I had any problem areas or anything. He couldn't even tell me to turn over because he didn't speak English so the lady massaging my fiance had to tell me. Called for an appointment. No answer on the number provided on their website. A cell number called me back and abruptly asked me to make an appointment, I should have seen how this was going to go then. I told the woman I wanted a shellac manicure and pedicure with paraffin dip and my boyfriend wanted a regular manicure and pedicure with paraffin dip. There was a Groupon deal available that would have been $55.50 combined, but when I asked her about the price she said it would be $50 for mine and $40 for his. She then asked if I had bought the deal yet, I said no and she said okay don't I would pay when I got there. She texted to confirm the time and location and I responded with a confirmation as well as listed the services and confirmed the prices. She agreed via text. Last I asked if we could adjust our time from 1:00 to 12:00 and she said "1 o'clock is a better time." To hen we arrived at 1 no customers were there, no employees, and the receptionist was sitting in the dark in the massage section of the salon. No music or lights were on and it was extremely sketchy. She asked rudely if we had an appointment we said yes and she looked extremely put out when I said it was for 2 manicures and pedicures instead of massages which she assumed for some reason. She told me not to get mad or have a bad attitude, which I didn't have it was just such an odd experience. I said we were leaving and she said "no give me your phone number" and we left. I am writing this review on behalf of my husband. He purchased a Groupon for a massage this past week and went yesterday (1/15) to redeem it. Upon checking in he was asked if he's prefer a male or female masseuse. He's only had female before (at other places, this was his first visit to Happy Day Spa), so that was what he asked for. He was told that if he wanted a woman, it would be an additional $10. He asked why it mattered and was told it was because they offered different services. (What??) He again asked what the difference was, and he said at that point she must have realized how it sounded. She then tried to say that there were 2 "teams" for Groupon. Apparently those teams are divided by male and female? The woman kept back peddling and trying to change what she said. To us (and those we've told this story to), it sounds as if they are offering ADULT services for extra money and when my husband was shocked at the offer of a female for extra money the woman tried to cover. Ironically, last night there was a news story on local raids of massage parlors... I'm thinking this place needs to be next on their list. My husband contacted Groupon about the situation and was reimbursed, thankfully. I absolutely would not recommend this place to anyone. I'm always excited about trying new places especially when it comes to being pampered! However none of that describes the experience I had here today. A friend of mine had found an awesome deal for a manicure, pedicure and paraffin on groupon for this location so we gave it a go. When we arrived they immediately assisted us and we choose our colors and took our chairs. One lady assisted my friend immediately running the water for her pedicure while I just sat there and waited my turn. After ten minutes another lady went into the back and a man came out with her. I assumed he was doing mine since they were speaking another language as she pointed to my feet but he just laughed and walked back into the back. Another five minutes passed then another lady came and ran my water. She asked me if I wanted my nails cut and then decided she was only filing them down even after I said yes. Meanwhile my friend was getting what looked like an amazing calf and foot massage from her lady. After the pedicure was completed with no foot rub or massage we were seated at the manicure station. That was fine but once again my friend was getting a hand massage and lotion where I litterally only got my nails painted. When we were through we went to pay and I was so shocked when the lady asked me how much I was going to tip her. I was so surprised I just ignored it and told her I was thinking about getting my eyebrows waxed and wanted to pay with my credit card and she said it was fine. The same lady waxed my eyebrows then had yet another come over and assist her. When they were through I gave them my card and specifically said that I wanted to pay for the services on my card and tip in cash. Given the experience and blatant rudeness I was not going to tip, especially since she flat out asked how much I was going to tip but I've worked in the service industry for 10+ years and will always leave something. I gave her $5 cash and she said is that for me or her and said I have to tip her too. I said you know what yall figure it out between the two of you that's all the cash I have. After I said that she told me the eyebrows were $8 and the card machine has a $10 minimum so the rest can be for a tip. Even though I knew it was a blatant lie I said fine. I will never return to or recommend this establishment to anyone. I am in complete disbelief that someone would assume they deserve a tip and flat out ask how much are you're going to tip them. Gratuity is left optionally when you are pleased and GRATIFIED with your service and experience. Gratified I was not. I did not appreciate the fact that they strong-armed me for an extra $3 dollars for a tip either. I have never experienced such a situation in my life and if they continue to treat people that way they will end up shutting down due to lack of business. I never knew what he wanted me to do he just keep tapping on me so I shifted and lifted my legs and everything I could think of before I started getting annoyed with the tapping and was asked what he wanted from me, then finally the lady that was massaging my boyfriend came over and told me what he wanted, kind of. Now this all sounds very negative but the massage was actually really nice and relaxing for me (I was apparently snoring at one point lol!) so we did get what we paid for and I felt great at the end. My boyfriend also enjoyed his massage but she didn't put any pressure or massage out any of his kinks which he really needs.. So bottom line is. Completely disappointed!! I wanted to do something nice for my boyfriend before he went underway again. I booked a couples massage. When we arrived they said we didn't pay the tax with a groupon. So paid the tax. And we were offered hot stones and aroma therapy which we said no. And she 2 hot stones will be free.. ok they never had us fill out any paperwork or asked us what part of our body's to focus on... so I started to wonder . We get to our room and they are separated rooms but we can still see eachother. I have had massages before, but not here. So expectations were high. First the tables were so hard and uncomfortable. We had a towel covering us. Not blankets. The first 20 minutes they were rubbing us through the towel. It felt like sandpaper on my skin. They were not professional massage therapist . They didn't work with the muscles at all. They start the hot stones and tell my boyfriend it will extra 20 dollars for us both. Ugh!!! He was more sore after than he was when we got to there. The service was fine but the quality and level of skill is lacking. I had to file my own nails to fix them even after the head lady tried. They missed painting the side edges of my nail. The shellac only lasted a little over a week before cracking. The pedicure was mediocre. I got the paraffin dip and it only made my feet soft for a few minutes, and I'm pretty sure I saw them reuse the same parrafin on multiple customers after me. The head lady tries to pressure you into tipping asking when you check in if you're going to tip by card or cash before you've even received service. Their massage area seems to be doing well, so maybe they should stick to that or get more experience with nail services. My wife and I purchased a groupon for a couples massage. I read a few reviews on groupon & decided it was okay. We went in, it should have been a red flag when they showed a sign of how much to tip.
