Judy and George from Eastfork Stables, did just that. They showed us grooming, getting on...and off (yes there is definitely a right and wrong way to do both) a horse. They even taught a city boy, like me, a think or three about horsemanship. Above and beyond their knowledge of horses and their mannerisms, Judy and George are incredibly patient. The kids (and the grown-ups) had a fantastic time in the hills around Eastfork Lake. Take a step...and a breath...away from the city and just relax and enjoy. GREAT getaway!

My daughter and I stayed in the cabins onsite, two times in the beginning of the year. The first…read moretime we stayed for the week, my daughter was in the barn when I caught a worker with a case of beer trying to get into our cabin. He had a key card and when confronted, he apologized and then went to the next cabin and then the next until his key card worked. I reported this incident from the many signs that are posted telling guests to report suspicious activity. If my daughter would have been inside the cabin when he tried to get in, she would have been distressed. Security didn't seem to think it was a big deal. My opinion is, he was a worker who somehow got a card key to the cabin and was walking around trying doors until one worked. The second time there was weeks later. I observed drug dealing by the workers in the cabin across from us and took notes and descriptions. They too had a key card that worked. It was a well-orchestrated crime for sure by the workers with lookouts and drop-offs, plus liaisons by the workers (female always looked terrified) also. Again, I reported this to security who handled this like keyboard detectives. I wish I would have called local police first instead of security. This time I stayed around the cabin more, instead of going to the barn to keep an eye on our belongings and vehicle. Security did nothing to make us feel at ease. I told our barn about this, and they were very disappointed. Not once did security call me. 2 days later I finally asked if they had searched the building, and this is after the workers had entered it many times since then. That night they came and searched the building. 2 days later. I wrote and email complaining, and never received a reply back. WEC is only interested in the dollar and not the protection of the guests and its reputation. To me, as the parent of a young girl, this is unacceptable. If you're going to WEC Ohio and staying on the grounds, be very mindful of your surroundings and the workers. And if you see something, call the local police and not security.

I purchased an OTTB from Win Row Farm and had a prepurchase exam done, except for x-rays, as I was…read moreassured by Amy that the horse was returned from the track (being told that this was one they had initially bred) only due to the fact that it was too slow and not interested in being a racehorse. The then-owner brought it back to Amy hoping it could have a second career as a hunter. The gelding passed the vet exam, bloodwork and flexion test, so I purchased him. I live out of state and had him shipped to me. The horse has had lameness issues shortly after purchasing. I've had him now for several years, had him on glucosamine/hoof care supplements for several years, glucosamine injections monthly now and now powdered bute. He's been x-rayed and found to have bone chips. I've tried to contact Amy by phone leaving a voice mail several times and texting her, and also emailing to see if there had been any previous x-rays performed being requested for review by my vet. NO RESPONSE!!! I then tried contacting her husband, Chris, by several methods. Again, NO RESPONSE!!!! This shows me they are not responsible horse sellers! I definitely do not recommend them.

I was quite surprised when I drove by here the other day that all of the soccer fields were…read morecompletely bulldozed through. There is very little green in the park anymore, which is unfortunate because it was really pretty. I am assuming that they are redoing the grass for the fields and the construction stopped during the outbreak. There are 4 tennis courts here and it is a pretty nice place to walk around. There are also softball/baseball fields and some basketball hoops, so there is a wide variety of sports that you can play while you are here. There is a well-paved sidewalk around the perimeter of the fields that is nice to jog through. It isn't my favorite park mostly because it is geared towards children to be able to play their respective sports, but if that is for you then this is a good park to get some practice in!

This really is a neat place. I came on the first Fri/Sat of the Cinci tennis tournament. It was…read moremy first time here. I had tix for Grandstand one day and the other stadium the other. Parking was free but far away. Fortunately, I am quite mobile and able to walk the distance quickly. I also made note of where I was parked and didn't have trouble finding my car later. The entry process was quick - even Saturday when the gates were busy. Within 15 minutes of entering, I cut my hand badly trying to fill my water bottle at the water fountain. Not sure how it happened, but it did. The first aid people were so kind. I get sick at the sight of blood and am sure I overreacted. They stopped the bleeding and bandaged me so I didn't have to leave to get stitches - although I really should have then or later but never did. It still is not healed. Anyways, as soon as I was bandaged up, I went to find the arena I had tix to. The 2 large stadiums are easy to find and they are actually much smaller than I had expected! I had front row seats the first night and it was really cool. Going to the evening time slot got me 2 matches. I didn't stay for the whole second match as I got nervous finding my car in the dark - so I left when the sun really started to go down. I had back row seats on Saturday - still a really good view. And I was in the shade which helped given the 90 weather. Again, finding my way to my seat was super easy. There were plenty of restrooms and water fountains. I didn't spend a dime while I was there although there were plenty of ways to do so. There were lots of food stands to eat at - and drink station serving both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. I got 3 matches on Saturday - all big name players. It was a great experience and am so glad I went. I won't go again as I much prefer watching tennis on TV but I have a new appreciation of what goes on at tennis tournaments now.

It was our first time at the Cincinnati Open tennis tournament, and we were there for opening…read moreweekend. We arrived about an hour before the gates opened, and we were parked close to the front my row. It still took us a good 10 or 15 minutes to walk to the gates, at the time we didn't know about the shuttles, and or they hadn't started running. Know before you go that overall there is very little shade anywhere. Even waiting in line to get in you're standing in the straight sun. Once inside, they had a few pavilion areas with booths that had vendors that had a few freebies, like handheld fans, sample bottles of sunscreen, that sort of thing. All the way at the rear of the complex is an immense pro shop, where you can buy virtually every type of clothing, article, hat, sunglasses, and all other types of accessories at much higher than normal prices (although most do sport the Open logo on them.) There is a large open grassy area with dozens of umbrella tables, as well as a selection of tables that do not have any shade. There is a long line of restaurant storefronts that gives you a wide variety of foods to try, such as pizza, gyros, burgers, salads, coffee, etc. Also, tucked along the edges of the various stadiums are small Kroger storefronts where you can buy bottled drinks and snacks, as well as some bars serving alcohol. They even have booths that sell cups of ice - with so many people, no matter how quickly they restock the refrigerated cases, nothing gets a chance to cool down so getting ice is imperative. They have a deal that you pay once and you get free ice refills all day, which is worth it when the temps are in the 90s. There are many available drinking fountains that are also equipped to refill water bottles. You will also see a lot of what appears to be hand sanitizer stands that actually dispense suntan lotion to help prevent sunburn. The stadiums are set up for prime viewing. There really isn't a bad seat in the house. The biggest consideration is how much sun you are willing to handle. There are sections that have permanent shade but you definitely pay more for those seats. Those also come with a more cushioned seat bottom, and little tables in front to hold your drinks, which is a big plus. The stadiums are completely open seating for practice matches, so we enjoyed watching Coco Gauff practice while sitting in the posh seats. Everyone was super friendly and helpful and the landscaping was beautiful. The bathrooms were plentiful and kept very clean. Despite the intense heat, we had a great time and would love to come back. This complex is in a great community, with lots to do within a very short drive. I would highly recommend!

I had never heard of this spot before, until I signed up for the Clermont Tail Trail! It is a…read moreprogram by the Clermont County Visitors bureau. You register, then receive a list of places that are dog friendly. When you have checked it at all the stops your dog receives a special tag! Some of the stops even have discounts. So anyways, about the preserve... This is a little off the beaten path but all in all not too far off 275. It runs along the river and has some nice views of such. There is ample parking in the lot, along with dog waste bags, trash cans, a Port o Potty, and a covered pavilion (although it has no tables right now). There is a non motorized boat launch, although it is a little far for carrying your kayak from the parking area. The trail map is easy to understand and the trails themselves are well marked. There is a woodsy area and a grassy area of trails. Its really all beginner stuff, so not too strenuous, just nice scenery. The place seemed clean and well maintained.
