Judy and George from Eastfork Stables, did just that. They showed us grooming, getting on...and off (yes there is definitely a right and wrong way to do both) a horse. They even taught a city boy, like me, a think or three about horsemanship. Above and beyond their knowledge of horses and their mannerisms, Judy and George are incredibly patient. The kids (and the grown-ups) had a fantastic time in the hills around Eastfork Lake. Take a step...and a breath...away from the city and just relax and enjoy. GREAT getaway!

I have volunteered at Sarajevo Farm (Springboro, OH) for over a year now. It took me several…read moremonths to identify an equestrian farm that met all of my expectations; a place that is family-oriented, responsible, caring and safe. After meeting the owner, Ms. Bobbie Henderson, and hearing her beliefs regarding teaching horses and people, I knew that I had found the right place for me. Bobbie believed that individuals should earn the right to ride; understand and bond with a horse, learn to ride utilizing natural horsemanship concepts and theories, and understand what it takes to own one of these beautiful creatures. Showing up just to ride does not provide the knowledge and skill needed to truly understand, and successfully ride a horse. Thus, everyone taking riding lessons 1) learns proper horse handling, grooming and tacking, 2) contributes to keeping the tack and barn clean (mainly light sweeping), and 3) carries out responsible behavior through learned leadership skills. Through this process, I've had the pleasure of observing young people with high anxiety, short attention spans, and self-assurance issues gain much-needed confidence when given the responsibilities of understanding and caring for a horse. It is absolutely amazing process to watch!! I believe in Sarajevo Farm, their purpose and instruction process, and hope to be with them for years to come.

The then-owner brought it back to Amy hoping it could have a second career as a hunter. The gelding passed the vet exam, bloodwork and flexion test, so I purchased him. I live out of state and had him shipped to me. The horse has had lameness issues shortly after purchasing. I've had him now for several years, had him on glucosamine/hoof care supplements for several years, glucosamine injections monthly now and now powdered bute. He's been x-rayed and found to have bone chips. I've tried to contact Amy by phone leaving a voice mail several times and texting her, and also emailing to see if there had been any previous x-rays performed being requested for review by my vet. NO RESPONSE!!! I then tried contacting her husband, Chris, by several methods. Again, NO RESPONSE!!!! This shows me they are not responsible horse sellers! I definitely do not recommend them.

My daughter and I stayed in the cabins onsite, two times in the beginning of the year. The first…read moretime we stayed for the week, my daughter was in the barn when I caught a worker with a case of beer trying to get into our cabin. He had a key card and when confronted, he apologized and then went to the next cabin and then the next until his key card worked. I reported this incident from the many signs that are posted telling guests to report suspicious activity. If my daughter would have been inside the cabin when he tried to get in, she would have been distressed. Security didn't seem to think it was a big deal. My opinion is, he was a worker who somehow got a card key to the cabin and was walking around trying doors until one worked. The second time there was weeks later. I observed drug dealing by the workers in the cabin across from us and took notes and descriptions. They too had a key card that worked. It was a well-orchestrated crime for sure by the workers with lookouts and drop-offs, plus liaisons by the workers (female always looked terrified) also. Again, I reported this to security who handled this like keyboard detectives. I wish I would have called local police first instead of security. This time I stayed around the cabin more, instead of going to the barn to keep an eye on our belongings and vehicle. Security did nothing to make us feel at ease. I told our barn about this, and they were very disappointed. Not once did security call me. 2 days later I finally asked if they had searched the building, and this is after the workers had entered it many times since then. That night they came and searched the building. 2 days later. I wrote and email complaining, and never received a reply back. WEC is only interested in the dollar and not the protection of the guests and its reputation. To me, as the parent of a young girl, this is unacceptable. If you're going to WEC Ohio and staying on the grounds, be very mindful of your surroundings and the workers. And if you see something, call the local police and not security.

It's fun, it can be relaxing, you can go with friends or family and thanks to Morgan's Canoe, it's affordable and stress-free to plan. Morgan's Canoe is located about 30-40 minutes north of Cincinnati in Morrow,OH along the Little Miami River. They offer a range of options for recreational canoe fun. You decide how long you wish to canoe by choosing one of the stopping points created by Morgan's Canoe. There is one at about 3 miles or you can go for up to 18 miles. Wherever you decide to stop and head back, Morgan's Canoe has buses that go from stop to stop to pick up canoers to take them back to the main lodge. If you want to make a bigger experience or a weekend of it, you can opt to camp out along the river. I have never done this but it looks like so much fun. The first time I went, I opted for the 6 mile trip. They informed me that it would take anywhere from 1 1/2-3 hours. It ended up taking me the entire 3 hours because I stopped several times to relax and enjoy the scenery. Although I took a bunch of friends, there were several families and young children there as well. It really is for anyone. Even though they aren't needed, they provide life jackets for any size. The water is pretty shallow but there are a lot of turns and sections that dead-end. We found this out the hard way, but if you can laugh at yourself, you'll actually find it pretty funny instead of stressful. We had so much fun when we went last year that we have already planned another one for this year. I have already reserved our canoes! Don't forget to wear your sunscreen! I found this out the hard way too!

I've also attended numerous social events at Ivy Hills - again, good food and great staff. I've had brides who had their ceremonies at Ivy Hills and others that have had church weddings elsewhere. Many brides get ready in the little white house that is near the club house. The house has a nice staircase for some bridal portraits. The windows are large - lots of light. Another plus for some photos. There are many photo opportunities elsewhere - on the course and around the house and clubhouse. The hole right by the clubhouse has the best sunset, too. There's a little pond there. The interior of Ivy Hills is very nice - and they can accommodate many group sizes. For one wedding, we did a Chinese tea ceremony, and that was held in a smaller, front room. They really can handle larger or more intimate receptions. The food at Ivy Hills has always been very good - and the service is always great! They've treated me equally well as a guest or as a vendor. I would definitely recommend checking out Ivy Hills for your wedding ceremony and/or reception - they do a fabulous job!
