It's the only show in town but don't let that fool you. This is a full service supermarket, the kind of store you'd expect to find back home. (Assuming you are reading this as a visitor to the area, as tourism is a big part of the economy in Bayfield County.) That said, it is a scaled-down version of the Jewel/Kroger/HyVee that you're used to, after all, Washburn is a town with about 2100 permanent residents. The selections are surprisingly good for a store this size. You'll probably notice the prices are a little higher than back home, isn't everything around here? You're surprised? You must have slept through economics class. Just the same, you'll find the store clean, brightly lit, the staff is friendly and helpful, and you'll even find an adult beverage section with a surprising selection of beers. So I get that this is a small town grocery store and so it's not going to be some high end thing. That's fine. For the basics, it is probably fine and keeps you from having to head to Ashland. So great... but there are issues. The produce section is small and has limited selection. Meat is pretty much the same story. We recently bought boneless pork roast and got it home to find it had a giant bone in the middle... There seems to be most the meats you need, but not a lot to choose from once you narrow it down to the cut you want... ie you get this package or that one and that is your choice. On our most recent visit we were going to get some TGIFriday frozen apps because they were on sale. Like BIG SAVINGS Sale. Well, when we went to pick something out they all were out of date. Very out of date. So yeah, no thanks. We don't live in Washburn but wanted to hit up IGA for some sales to save some money, but having been a few times, I think we've decided it isn't worth the effort. We might find some deals but our choices might be limited or we just might not like what we find once we get there. So we'll stick to Ashland grocery stores. If you need convenient, fine. But if you are really doing some serious grocery shopping, I'd venture elsewhere, personally. read more

If you want your food shipped from Kansas City (who knows where it's produced), go for it. Their store brand Best Choice is very poor quality, poor tasting and is taking over the entire IGA store. Chicken, most meats are poor quality. Don't think so? Taste it. Who knows what they come from? Most of their plastic bottled water has no expiration dates. Supposed to. Plastic has expiration dates. Store remains dirty. This company is now ripping people off with their "virus" items Toilet paper rolls now in packs of 20; milk in half-gal, 1-gal sizes instead of qts; many larger sizes only where there used to be a choice; un-friendly staff (some don't even smile!); local dog food treats that are toxic; unhealthy dog foods; bakery shop disappeared. They've had time to get the shelves restocked. They don't want to - make more money from poorly stocked shelves! Their parking lot is a dangerous mess. Broken curbing, pot holes - filthy dirty but we're sure they have tons of excuses for this, too. Super One in Ashland is the best around here - lower prices, CLEAN STORE, fresh foods, ADULT CASHIERS. Now with gas less than a dollar, DRIVE TO ASHLAND. Oh, yeh, stay away from Hansen's gas. It even tested bad! How much did they bribe city hall to come into Washburn? The best grocery store in Washburn Wisconsin.. hehe, The ONLY grocery store in Washburn Wisconsin! No, seriously, this place is good.. I mean really good! For being a small town, they actually do have a pretty good produce selection. I grew up in Washburn. I remember when they built the new store.. that was so interesting and new for our town.. damn! I still remember the old one too, and how it was laid out... let me tell you this new one... it's way better! That was like 10 years ago now...wow. I've noticed too, over the years they've started carrying more and more organic and locally grown items, which is pretty cool! I've done all of my grocery shopping here since I was born! Well.. up until I moved to Minneapolis! OH, love it! read more

Don't let the bland exterior fool you! This is a great grocery market. My family and I stopped here on our way out of town preparing for the second leg of our road trip. We were able to find everything we needed and stocked up on all of our groceries. They had a great wine and spirits section. Friendly staff and clean store. Prices are "tourist town" prices but nothing wild. read more

Now that it has changed hands, I guess we have to just deal with it more like a Wal-Mart grocery instead of our "Hometown IGA". Have had the hamburger and ribeye. Neither was anything like it was before. Our hamburgers were tasteless. And we have tried steaks from all the local stores over the years and IGA couldn't be beat the most flavorful! Now we'll shop around for better steak also. Right away we noticed the coloring of the meat looking different, but put it off as probably just the different packaging but their is a noticeable difference. So sad, we had the best meat department around. read more

The prices could be cheaper compare to Super One Ashland,WI they have horrible deals! They're customer service at the deli with all those women only work there isn't that great either! Again,women they need to improve they're customer service skills no joke! read more
