Very bad experience with Cargil guitars. They put a dint in my 5k Gibson Hummingbird after I…read morereturned the guitar the second time so they can fix things that weren't done properly the first time (under their 12 month guarantee). They tried to hide it by buffing into the dint which then further scratched the pick guard. No attention to detail. Not recommended for expensive guitars. Should have just told me they couldn't do it, I could have just done it my self with more care! The pick guard still doesn't look like its glued down properly, but now there is a dint as well. Very disappointed and upset. Very rude and got hung up on when trying to phone and ask why this had happened.

Besides, you can probably import them from somewhere or cut out the middleman and just browse on eBay. But I had a look anyway, and did my due dilligence, and it pretty much fulfilled my expectations. There's some straight-to-video style DVDs, but nothing incredibly tacky. There's a small range of CDs, but enough that you might pick up something you like. It's cheap enough and the staff are nice (well, they're uninterested and apathetic. What I like in my servicefolk.)

That's my very long way of telling you that that very song started as a demo tape at Muscle Shoals Sound Studios in Alabama many years ago...long before we'd even heard of Scientology. And that really has not much to do with Muscle Shoals Records, situated up the northern end of Lygon Street, except of course in name, and the fact that the legendary recording studios were probably the inspiration for this very excellent record store. Muscle Shoals specialises in new and secondhand vinyl for the bargain hunter to the discerning record collector. They get new stuff in all the time so you should visit often to make sure you don't miss anything good. And this place is so good that you can even pick up a record player here to play your new-secondhand records on. There's also 70s and 80s stereo equipment (amps and stuff) and you get a warranty with your purchase too. They don't have a website but you can follow them on Facebook and Twitter.

Had been a while since plays, had gathered a bit of dust and could probably do with a service and a new stylus. Buttons on the tape deck were a little wonky too. Unfortunately those last two things were the only parts they helped with. After a week or so I got a call from *someone* in the store saying "all good, come in and pick it up". He was quite helpful and came to the store early to let me pick it up. A few days later when I had a chance I set it up at home to find that the record player wasn't even working! This seemed very strange since last time we had used it that part was working fine. Very frustrating since I'd paid $170 for a simple job. Not able to take it back in for another week or so due to work hours not matching with the opening hours of the store, when I finally did the guy I spoke to, *a guy*, didn't seem very helpful at all compared to *someone" who I had originally dealt with. He took forever to find a pen to take down my details and gave no time frame as to when it would even be looked at. A week or so later I was in the area and thought I'd check in to see what was happening. Lazing about the store was *a guy*, "oh yeah the person who does the repairs is away at the moment". So any idea of when he can look at it? "Oh he might be coming into the store on Saturday, you could try coming in then and speaking to him". Unprofessional mate. I mean, I'm not expecting deluxe service from you like at JB Hi-Fi or some big chain store, but the least you could have done was called me and given me some kind of update. Don't leave me hanging, that's all I was asking for. So then a week later with still no word at all I decided to call in and just grab the player and take my business elsewhere. His reply when I asked to take it was something like, "oh yeah I don't think that's been looked at yet". Thanks! All in all it took nearly 2 months and it's now broken and I have to take it somewhere else. Don't bother going there for a service. Not worth your troubles. ----UPDATE 08/05/13--- So I received a late night call from "a guy" from the shop (possibly drunk) saying I had to remove the names from this review "or else" basically. Saying things like, "Brunswick East is a small town", "i'll keep calling you until you remove it" etc etc. This changes nothing on how I feel, you still ripped me off. You own the store and you still gave me bad service. And now you've just pissed me off even more.

Walk in Wardrobe on the main shopping strip of Belgrave is a really groovy store that only stocks…read moreitems that have been pre-loved. Its owner is pro-recycling and manages to find some fantastic items that don't look second hand at all. The prices in here can be a little high considering most of the products are second hand but the environment in the shop is fantastic and there are a lot of great finds in the one place...so it wont stop me going back. There are groovy vintage accessories and vintage looking accessories like button rings and hand knitted brooches. These are around $15 and up. The shop itself is decorated in vintage posters and pictures of vintage fashion. Walking in here is enough to get you hooked on vintage and the idea of recycled clothing. It is open from 10am to 5pm every day although it is closed on Tuesdays and Sundays. The shop is a really great place to go and get something that no one else will have and the staff here are really friendly and love talking vintage. Get on down and check it out!

The cons of these stores are the feeling you get, knowing that if you'd found these items at the Salvos you'd pay half the price, however the Pros are that you don't have to do the hunting. The clothes are usually of the 60's & 70's period, with great shirts and pants for the guys, plus heaps of funky vintage dresses for the ladies. With the prices as they are, your usual trip here will see you grab one or two items, as whatever the price, the stuff is always good and worth trying on for size.

The prices seem to be fairly standard for the industry, $18-$30 seems to be the standard for alterations that involve unpicking and restitching. $5.50 to fix buttons on the spot. That might seem pricey to people that can do it themselves, but if you don't want your garment to look like a dog's breakfast (I am referring to my own button sewing abilities here) then it's not too much to baulk at.

Most of the brands were their own, but you could tell nothing was cheap or mass made here and the clothing while modern had a stated vintage feel to them. It's refreshing to find items you won't find at Meyer or David Jones. I found the staff to be overly friendly and helpful. I wound up buying a Wills leather travel bag here. Wills is a leather company from Oregon in the states and is not so easy to find in Melbourne. Worth a visit to the Windsor end of Chapel street to visit.
