We received super friendly service, a prompt head's up on the burger and cocktail combo deals, and all was per Du. As has been mentioned in other reviews, the choices of bun were a sourdough (I'd just call it a basic, white bun as one doesn't taste the sourdough) and grain. A sesame bun was no where to be seen. The hubs ordered the Käse and Speck burger with a small portion of fries and I the Elsässer. His was to come with, well, cheese and bacon-of-sorts and mine a preiselberry (akin to the cranberry) sauce and brie. The burgers both also automatically came with lettuce and tomato. I hadn't expected the L and T and, to be frank, couldn't really discern their flavor over the richness of the preiselberry jelly, actually, and brie. My burger happened to arrive on the Hubs' plate and visa-versa. I noticed a bit of berry-red peeking out from between burger and bun from across the table and quickly rescued my fare before the hubs had a chance to take his first bite. :) The Käse and Speck, interestingly, comes with bbq sauce and crispy onion bits decorating the patty. Hubs didn't expect the bbq sauce to be on burger, so if one orders the K and S, then be advised. Condiment-wise, this place sets one up for success. There are bottles of ketchup, mayo, mustard and bbq sauce decked out on the all tables. The fries, crisp, hot and savory, were made all the better with an ample portion of tomato ketchup On the whole, we liked our experience at H im G. The burgers, however, tasted more of their toppings than anything else. I have to say that the Riesen burger of Wasserman's just around the way did a much better job on the burger front. There the main flavor was of juicy beef, the condiments were a compliment. At H im G, the condiments determined the flavor of the fare. -end of. I was hungry. I needed it be fast at under 30 minutes. I wanted something good. Not knowing the area can be a good thing when you stumble on something good. I found that place by happenstance because it seemed like the best option- cute place with people inside, nice design, decent menu, and with name like "burger grill", it drew me in. Upon entering, I told the server that I only had half an hour and she said "sure no problem." I ordered some fresh veggies to munch on, and an avocado burger. This was my first burger in Munich, and coming from LA where they take burgers seriously (Father's Office, Umami Burger, and In-n-Out), I was open but wasn't hoping for anything amazing. It was decent sized gourmet burger with artisan bread, a moist patty, and all the fixings! No structural problems either. Sometimes burgers get too crazy that they start to fall apart toward the end, but this one held together until the last bite. Uh huh, I finished the whole thing. Within arms reach, placed on all tables is a basket of American condiments with honey mustard, bbq, ketchup, mayo and tabasco. A plus for a saucy person! My time was almost up and they had one more surprise- they gave me a token and said that it was a good for a coffee to go. All I had to do was redeem it at the coffee/ espresso machine! A great burger AND a coffee to go? Seriously? This is too good. I'd go back during the nighttime. When my parents wanted to take me to a burger place I was a little apprehensive. I mean...when I come to Germany I don't really want to eat American food. But, they assured me it was good and my little brothers are crazy about it, so off we went. I loved the interior of the restaurant! Super cool! We were promptly seated and after looking over the menu, I decided on the chicken burger with wasabi mayo on a regular bun. We also got a large order of fries to share with the table (well actually, it was split between me and my stepmom since everyone else wanted their own order). Burgers came out pretty quick. The chicken burger was good! I enjoyed the wasabi mayo. It was a bit toned down, but nonetheless tasty. But these fries!!!!! Soooo goood. We had various dipping sauces, including the ones that are already on the table. My little brothers (ages 5 and 8) finished their entire burger AND their fries. Not something that's common, so I know they really love it. Service is quick and friendly. A great place to go for "American" cuisine that will do the trick! Based on Yelp reviews I sought out this place and was very impressed. Though I walked from my hotel(I was glad I did. The neighborhood is one of the nicest in Munich) the subway stopped is a few feet from the restaurant. I sat at one of the tables in front of the bar next to the window. The trees emerging from the floor to the ceiling are an added touch to the awesome ambiance of this restaurant. If you look hard though the trees did not actual go through the floor and ceiling but actually just stop short of both. What I found most enjoyable, outside of the excellent food, was the wait staff. I learned after going to the restaurant twice in a week that the staff is made up of international students. They provided me with a wealth of information about the city and its in and outs. In closing the restaurant, the staff and the food is excellent. And walk the neighborhood as well. read more

I wanted so hard to believe in this fairy tale. Sadly, like "Hans im Glück", the stories of finding a good burger here are fantasy. Don't get me wrong, I love the concept of a restaurant based on a fairy tale, and from a design point of view, it is obvious that this place put a lot of thought and hard effort into that part of their restaurant. You really do kinda feel like you're sitting in a forest while you eat. Also, some of their non-burger options looked pretty good, though not necessarily wildly creative or fitting to the design concept. I'll leave open the question as to whether a fairy tale concept restaurant should be dealing in burgers, which are usually thought of as a simple food, and not an apt springboard for truly creative cooking. BURGER - ONE STAR The burger is why I came here, and as it gets only one star, I can really only give this restaurant, which holds itself out to be a burger restaurant, one star. But let's look deeper at the source of my discontent: MEAT - One Star - A gourmet burger restaurant absolutely has to ask its customers how they want their burgers cooked. That's the "gourmet" part of gourmet burger. They didn't do that (Strike one). - If not, then a gourmet burger restaurant absolutely has to cook a juicy burger that appeals to the broadest spectrum of tastes, which usually means medium or medium-well. Instead, they cooked my burger dry, which is beyond well, which means overcooked (Strike two). - Finally, a burger patty needs to be substantial enough, or the toppings modest enough, that the patty itself is the main attraction and everything else the supporting actors. Here, the patty is dwarfed with toppings and bun (STRIKE THREE). BUN - Four Stars - You have a choice of sourdough, whole grain, and "sesame bagel". For obvious reasons, I did not even consider the last (non-)option, and I pretty quickly concluded that sourdough was a better choice than whole grain. I guess whole grain makes sense if you're ordering a veggie burger or a chicken breast sandwich, but I couldn't imagine that working out with my cheeseburger. - That aside, the bun held up the whole way through and was in and of itself actually really good. I just wish among their options they would include "normal frickin' hamburger bun with sesame seeds on top". TOPPINGS - Two Stars - Crisp lettuce, juicy tomatoes, delightfully pungent onions; the produce was great! - But I ordered a cheeseburger and the woefully thin slice (I could actually see through it to my burger patty) was inadequate. It's supposedly a really great cheese made from the milk of free-pasture cows who roam the Alps all summer long chewing fresh hay and grass and farting sunshine and butterfly rainbows. I couldn't tell you, because I couldn't taste it. I may as well have just ordered a regular burger. FRIES - Three Stars - Great! On the softer side of crispy, but definitely great tasting fries! - The portion was just enough and not too much. - They're thick cut fries, basically steakhouse fries but with no skin. Yum! SERVICE - FOUR STARS - Also great! The service is really friendly and the food comes out rather timely. - Okay, there was a while when I was hoping our waitress would come around for a second drink order because the restaurant was really hot and I was parched, and that didn't happen. - But our waitress was able to take the drink orders from those of us who wanted to order the evening combo (Abendmenü? Cocktailmenü?) in advance, instead of making us wait until we order our food. I guess that was difficult because of the handheld computer she uses to plug in our orders, but she offered to do it with a smile, so extra points for her! DRINKS - TWO AND ONE-HALF STARS - They do have a creative cocktail menu, so plus points for that. - However, all the cocktails are fruity. I respect their creative vision, so I can't take away points for the lack of variety, but it was annoying because I don't like fruity cocktails. PRICE - ONE STAR - This was €14,50 of disappointment, and I got every cent's worth of that, unfortunately. - Admittedly, half the price was the cocktail, but for this money, I expect first and foremost a damn good burger. - If I'd had one more drink, this place would land in the €€€ price bracket. Plan accordingly. CONCLUSION - ONE STAR In the end, the concept behind this restaurant is really, really cool, and from a design point, they deliver a really cool experience. But as a gourmet burger restaurant, they fail. I can see myself coming here again, but not for any of the burgers. I'll try one of the salads that looked really good, or maybe one of the non-burger options, like turkey or chicken breast. read more

Stumbled upon this cute restaurant when I was in Munich for work. They have a really great variety of burgers to choose from and very clearly marked allergen information. I am a fan of the interior design of this place. It's green accents and wide spaces and its drawings on the wall reminding of the Hans im Glueck story are just great! It's a place where I feel so calm and relaxed that I just like to enjoy a good meal at their place. The interior looks like you are in the middle of a forest, white trees grow from the middle of your wooden table. This was the favourite place to go whenever I was visiting my friend that lived near Rotkreutzplatz. If it would be a wider selection of salads, veggies, non-fried things, considering how much I enjoy staying in this interior design, I would be there daily for sure, but I am a bit more vegetarian than the place has to offer for my daily wishes and although they are very vegetarian friendly, the selection is not too wide. Back to the food. The burgers are delicious, with or without meat, yes, they have also vegie friendly burgers and I've tried them both. And if you're not such a big meat eater like me or you're not so much into burgers, you can still thrive on a seriously big portion of potatoes, probably the best fried potatoes in town. I liked the fact that they have a great sauce selection available on each table, including fancy ones like orange moustard sauce, beyond the classical mayonnese, ketchup and maybe moustard, that can be found elsewhere as well. And to top it all up, you even have some fried onions next to the sauces :) Service is really awesome, I loved it from the beginning and in one of the multiple occasions I was there, we even received some gifts from the place, some nice sale offers, a nice price if we take their special menu including a coffee or a cocktail etc. All in all, service great and offers to delight you and surprise you whenever I was there. They also have a few tables outside for the sunny days when you just can't stay in. And the terace is nicely isolated by the near by intersection with the help of a tall living green fence :) All in all, worth going! read more

One of the BEST burger places in Munich. Great selection and friendly staff. Hand made fries, fresh meat, great toppings. We had a double Cheeseburger with bacon and fries, and a California Burger with avocado, bacon, and fries. Sooooo Good! SOmehow we managed to order withing the happy hour, so we got a soda and coffee for free. The prices where absolutely ok, I think we paid 10 € per person. read more

Actually I went here to try one of their famed burgers, but since it was a warm day I felt more like having a salad. Turned out it was a great idea! The salad was one of the best I've had in Munich - served with a warm bread roll. Food - 4 Value - 4 Service - 4 Ok people, I have found my second burger joint outside of the US that knows what they are doing (the first is Surfer Burger in Trujillo, Peru). It's a bit pricey for the combo but you get fries/salad, a drink, and a coffee/espresso/cappuccino after the meal - not bad! I had the Birkenwald burger on a wheat bun. Flavors were good (the fresh cheese was really nice) and the bun was fresh. My only complaint is that they cooked the burger well-done. Good quality meat does not need to be cooked so much and only dries it. Fortunately, with the sauce and cheese I did not notice if the patty was dry. Service was good by German standards. The food and location are really nice. Just make sure to come outside of lunch time when it gets really busy. There is also a nice outdoor area if you are ok sitting close to the main road (protected by some trees). I really like the veggie burgers which are better than most meat versions! Try the Hornträger with goat cheese and fig spread - really good. Prices are decent for an upscale burger place. Now you are thinking: Sounds all great, why is he giving it only 3 stars? The service! You really have a problem If you want anything special or are in a rush. The ladies don't have much patience and it doesn't feel like they want to accommodate your wishes. Can't believe this place is a chain, because my vegan burgers were off da chain!! We went here twice because it was so good. I got the butterbirne burger with a wheat patty and it was amazing. The fries are heavenly as well. A large fry is HUGE!! The vegan Hans I'm gluck sauce is also very rich and tasty. Although the star of the sauce community is the orange mustard sauce. It tasted like a honey mustard and a little bit like the Polynesian sauce from chick fil a. It was incredible. I've been here twice, both times before catching a movie at the English Cinema (perfect location for dinner and a movie). This is one of the few good burgers I've had in Munich. Maybe I'm just spoiled by the great meat in the states, but Hans Im Glueck get's it pretty close. I'm a fan of the Avocado burger. I really enjoyed the burgers here! As an American we consider ourselves the authority on burgers and hans im gluck did not disappoint. We were happy that the staff spoke english and were very nice. We did have to wait an hour due to not having a reservation but they actually sat us in 30 minutes. For the main course I had the hans im gluck burger with the whole wheat bun. It was amazing and i highly recommend it. My wife had the chicken salad and we shared a large sweet potatoe fries. I had a recommended beer. Not sure what it was but it was a Helles. This is a review for the new location at Karlstrasse and Luisenstrasse (near the Train Station, the botanical gardens and The Charles Hotel). We loved the atmosphere -- the floor to ceiling birch trees create a very calming atmosphere -- you almost forget you are in the city. This is a place to have a beer and a burger and chill out. We were there for about an hour. We really liked the basic burger -- they served it with a tray of various customized sauces -- which were quite good. We are spoiled by many great high end burger experiences in the USA, but Hans im Gluck (Hans in Luck) met our needs and then some. I'd go back in a heart beat. Great casual dining option. The negative reviews just don't match the service or burgers we had. Full bar too. Brand new. Clean bathrooms. Two thumbs way up. read more
