Epi is like having a little corner of Paris in Bonn! *Real* French baguettes, perfect pastries, and…read moreever-so-tempting desserts. My favorite food at Epi requires me to become a bit anti-social: a freshly warmed baguette with Brie, rucola and a honey chutney-ish dressing (Brie a Miel). Stinks so bad, tastes so good!! :-) Of course, one simply can't leave without sampling an eclair (or three), Monte Cristo, brioche, tart or macaroon. Better yet, buy one of each! I would especially recommend the white chocolate and pistachio Monte Cristo, and the apricot brioche... but then I'd have to leave out the three-cheese quiche and fondant chocolate, and that would just be wrong. Epi imports French flour to ensure that their pastries and breads are authentic. As a result, it's a bit pricey - and worth every penny. Oh, and they have some delicious hot chocolate, teas and imported sodas, too. But, seriously - who can think about that when face-to-face with the most tender and flaky chocolate croissant in Germany? The only downside is that they close at 19:00... sometimes a girl just needs a praline at 19:30, people!!

The food: We ordered the tête-à-tête for two, there was a giant bread collection included in that with multiple bread rolls, croissants and some brioche buns. The breadwork was beautiful done, the croissants especially just blew me away! There was some cheese and confitures as well, which was good. The price: the price in my opinion is quite okay, the food is really good, so high prices have to be expected. We paid around 20€ for the menu for 2 and some drinks on top of that. We took some patisserie home, which was rather expensive. The staff: the staff was not horrible, but not good either. We always had to go in front to order something new, because the waiter never came to our table. He also reached over my plate once to take something out of a shelf next to me, which in my opinion is a total no-go for a waiter!! Also, the Dirty dishes just sat on the front desk for about 35 minutes before getting cleaned! TLDR: Atmosphere: 10/10 Food: 10/10 Price: 8/10 Staff: 6/10 I would definitely go here again, but I wouldn't buy patisserie anymore, the prices were just too high. Maybe a change of staff is recommendable!

The pastries were one level above in tastelessness. We tried the Tartelettes aux framboises ... it tasted industrial! I won't talk too much about the price that it was really overprice, if at least the quality would follow it would have been fine!

FOOD & DRINKS We made good use of their grand opening…read morediscount offer and ordered several items from the menu. If you are Vietnamese you should know that the kitchen is operated by a south as well as a north Vietnamese chef. This will make a difference on the expectations and taste. For example the Pho will be nothing like the ones you get in the south of Vietnam. If you have eaten Pho in Saigon then this probably won't be as near as good as you have experienced there. The roasted pork over rice was not bad but not great either because the meat was just reheated and the skin wasn't crispy throughout. The favorite dish of president Obama was done quite well with the exception of the noodles which easily broke into small bits. The banh mi wasn't served with a french baguette which in my opinion is a mistake. The bread wasn't fluffy inside and the crust was too hard. Yes, it should be crispy but when you bite into the bread it should become fluffy and light. The bread they use made it heavy and the bread itself has very distinctive taste. It should be more of a vessel for the yummy ingredients and elevate those instead. The avocado smoothie was really good as well as the sticky rice with mango and coconut cream. SERVICE The service here is okay. If you are Vietnamese you probably feel that the service is better since you can communicate with the staff on another level. If not, you will probably say that they just do their job and that's it. ATMOSPHERE The restaurant has two levels. I think eating downstairs is better. It isn't as cramped as upstairs, everything is better lit and decorated. I would recommend upstairs if you are alone or prefer a darker, more intimate vibe. RATING For me it came down to one issue and that is the bread of the banh mi. I don't mind if you put your own twist on a dish but I think in this case it was for the worse. Take my 3 stars more like a 3.9 stars because anything else was good or okay enough. Maybe you even like the banh mi more that way. If you do, please rate them with four or more stars. UPDATE They changed the bread for the banh mi to a traditional banh mi baguette and therefore the rating goes from three to four stars.

Food wise, I was a bit surprised in a good way at the quality. One can easily assert the menu as being Greek or Middle Eastern fusion but all of the items I ordered were pretty yummy. After what seemed to be a month of pondering over their menu while enjoying a "Cherry Amaretto", I finally ordered the Farmer's Salad, pasta with mushroom cream sauce and baked Gouda, and a specialty dessert order: yogurt, walnuts and honey crepes. One of the waiters was outside smoking a cig and over heard us speaking English (no one in our party spoke any German). Hr wasn't shy and helped us out by explaining what was on their menu. He spoke very good English and was very welcoming. The service was fast and friendly. The place filled up with locals so we knew it would be good. There was a nice selection of beer, mixed drinks and café drinks. We sat at the bar and could see the bartender working; she was very detail oriented. My husband and his business partner ordered the chicken kabobs which were very well seasoned and moist. I had the salami baguette which came grilled with melty cheese; the accompanying salad was very good. We would definitely recommend when starting in suburban Düsseldorf.
