The interior was pleasant. The location was great, very close to the Dom. On entering we were greeted pleasantly in German. However once I revealed through my broken German that I'm not a fluent speaker the pleasantries ended, I was told flatly where to sit and not to speak German again when I was ordering. I thought this slightly rude but continued and we ordered two pizzas and some Paulaner beer. We were very disappointed with the food we received , the pizza was burned black and the olives all had stones left in then meaning we had to disassemble each one to eat them with the pizza . We also felt that we were treated differently to the German customers who had waiters frequently checking up on how they were finding everything (I have a good understanding of German, speaking is where I stumble). We were not spoken to from the time we ordered to the time the bill was placed on the table. When we did pay we were met with silence. Overall the only enjoyable component outside of my girlfriends company was the beer! Wouldn't recommend to tourists.

If you are going here make sure you speak German or Italian. There was one bartender that spoke some English. The broken English combined with my knowledge of more well known Italian dishes was god enough for me to order. I ended up ordering a quattro pizza. It was alright other than the odd fact that one quadrant was tuna fish. And obviously that is going to just taste like tuna fish. I honestly do not think this was phenomenal pizza even though I was starving. The crust was thin, and a little bit soggy towards the center. Remember to bring cash. This place only accepts cash and the closest ATM is a 10-15 minute walk at barbaro platz.

They started the table with fresh made bread & homemade butter. We ordered their Schnitzel, Gnocchi, & a Kolsch beer. The schnitzel was tender, moist, & had a golden fry (did not feel greasy at all). The gnocchi was soft, chewy, & fresh with mushrooms & veal. Service was attentive and helpful when trying to figure out what to order. We finished our meal with a berry cobbler which came out hot & with a scoop of ice cream on the side.

**FAVORITE LUNCH SPOT IN COLOGNE**…read more If you feel like having a high-quality and somewhat pricey lunch, DO IT. HERE. AMBIANCE ========== Typical European bistro with strong Italian influences. Clean, upscale. Outdoor seating next to the cobble-stoned streets. FOOD ===== SALAT ZIEGENKÄSE (11,50 euros) OMG, the best goat cheese and salad in the world. Good size cheese rested upon a cracker, oozing on top of a delicious bed of salad. A meal in itself, no need to order a main entreé. RATING: 5/5 STAFF ====== Quick, efficient, and friendly. They went out of their way to explain their menu in English. NOTE ====== Don't take complimentary filtered water for granted in the States. Water is NOT free in Europe. **5 euros for a small bottle of water was steep.** Still dreaming about that goat cheese salad. HIGHLY RECOMMEND for lunch.

On the strip of Hohenzollernring where there is a different type of restaurants every 10 feet, Buon Giorno cafe caught our eye... mainly because of the vast outdoor seating and the enticing smell of pizza. There was no hesitation after looking at their menu, unlike the other places we walked by (what is that godawful Korean-Chinese buffet place anyway??) The man ordered a Quattro Stagioni and I ordered a Peperoni pizza. We devoured them like rabid beasts. Simply spectacular. A bottle of Chianti and two pizzas later these two hungry homos were happy and sated. Gut! Sehr Gut!! P.S Opens for breakfast at 7:00. One of the few places in that area that serves a full breakfast.

The restaurant is very busy but they work fast. The menu is large with every type of pizza you could want on it. The location is great and easy to get to. The seats on the outdoor balcony provide breathtaking views of the Rhein and all the activity which takes place on it. In the summer months a seat on the balcony can be hard to get (especially in the evenings). Make sure to reserve a few days in advance to secure a table on the balcony. Time flies by while sitting there, there is just so much to watch happening. During the winter months the atmosphere inside the restaurant is very warm and cozy. Here the challenge is to get a seat by the windows. Be sure to reserve a few days in advance if you would like a window seat (again, especially in the evenings). The food is excellent. The fish dishes are always a good choice. Whereby, I have also had excellent meat dishes as well. Selections from the daily menu (on the chalk board) can always be recommended. If you like Mediterranean food there will be something on the menu for you. I have taken business clients to dinner here and they have always raved about it. I have also dropped-in for lunch with the family on the weekends. The service is tip-top.

Considering that it's situated right on the bank of Rhine I guess they have a beautiful terrace open in summer. But since that was a cold October, it was closed of course. Nice friendly ambience. And thanks God they had menu with English translation. We took different Mezedes (small appetizers) to share: grilled octopus, scallops, aubergine (eggplant) roulette breaded with egg, filled with sheep's cheese and tomato sauce, and Calf's liver fried with onions and white wine. Funny that when walking around the city I was thinking that I haven't eaten liver for a long long time and since it's a rare dish on the menu of the restaurants (if not French), that coincidence that they had it was like a sign to go for it and order. It was a soft and tender one, not exactly the way I wanted it, but tasty too. They have a lot of various hors d'oeuvres to any taste: seafood, cheese, vegetables or meat. We wanted to try stewed rabbit and duck breast - but that would have been too much of food. Next time may be, if we ever come back to Cologne on any occasion. And no wine this time. Germany, lunch, mixed food; beer was a right selection here. For dessert they had pies, the cherry streusel was really good and the cheesecake, all house made. The waiters hardly spoke English, but we managed to understand each other.
